I think it’s far more likely he is an unwitting agent, in that his ego blinds him to the reality of the influence he is experiencing.
And most Trump supporters in this thread are spending a lot of time insulting his critics but still seem unable or unwilling to articulate a convincing explanation as to why Trump is trying so hard to hide his conversations with Putin. What does he have to hide?

This is how they do things. This is what they did during Soviet times, except in this case the population they are inspiring to reject American values are Authoritarian minded people who consider national emergencies to be more important than the constitution.

And these are valid criticisms to which we should also accept when they are applied to Trump.
I would give you more credence if there weren't two different standards. As for why he would want his conversations private..... there are a million reasons. But if you think he was being manipulated by bribery or blackmail, even having translator present would be to big a risk. It would be interesting to have the translator subpoenaed and forced to testify, and when he says nothing of real interest, it will be on to the next angle. ...and the next, and the next until your little coup is complete
I look forward to the translator testifying. As for as impeachment goes, let the facts guide us. But count me as extremely skeptical he isn’t involved in significant wrongdoing.

So just to sum up here.
-Trump's admin has apparently been leaking info about the President left and right to the liberal media. "Anon source, inside the admin, people close" Basically every NYT tabloid trash article starts that way.
-The two most powerful people in the world have a closed door meeting with just their interpreters present. Trump exits the meeting and doesn't know who too trust so he doesn't tell anyone exactly what happens, because I'm sure a lot of it was classified and dealing with issues most of the common populace isn't equipped to understand.
-Trump orders interpreter to destroy any evidence of what was discussed so that if there is a leak there are only 3 people it could come from. Putin, His interpreter, or Trump's interpreter.
-Unhinged ignorant leftists predictably lose their collective chit again over yet another non-issue, thereby proving to the rest of the country that they almost certainly shouldn't be allowed to vote and definitely should be thrown into mass asylums for the clinically insane.

Then Trump’s people tried to delay sanctions which Congress demanded:
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-u...-idUSKBN1HN20O
Now Trump’s people are trying to end or reduce sanctions against people like Deripaska under the pretense that the act of Deripaska giving up shares of his company to a Kremlin affiliated bank, also under sanctions, is sufficient to warrant the removal of sanctions against Deripaska’s company.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/19/u...sia-trump.html
Then you have really strange incidents such as Trump repeating Russian propaganda about Afghanistan:
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/ar...nistan/579361/
Then you have Trump trying to abruptly pulling out of Syria which is to the benefit of Russia:
https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/is...ts-say-n950111
In general, Trump’s approach to foreign policy benefits Russia. Russia has no interest in the rules-based international order the United States and its allies built after WWII, organizations like NATO, the United Nations, the European Union and so on. All these things are obstacles to Russia. The thugs in charge of Russia do not care about Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual Rights, and resolution of disputes with foreign countries through compromise and diplomacy, all the things citizens of Western countries take for granted. Trump doesn’t care about any of that.
