Dont blame people expressing themselves through free speech when pre teens' parents can't supervise their children effectively.

And I agree, rap music was never made for children.

Parent A bans their child from having a smartphone, and unsupervised internet access, nor are they allowed to listen to top40 radio.

Parent B doesn't ban any of those things.

Parent A's child listens to music and watches videos on Parent B's child's smartphone at school.

I can and do blame people who are promoting a lifestyle of violent career criminality.

They are explicitly glorifying that lifestyle in their music.

The answer is not regulation or stifling free speech & if you think it is, America isn't the country for you. Try a middle eastern dictatorship.

I don't think rap necessarily has some massive impact on crime, I just think in general it drives degenerate behavior (both legal and illegal) and glamorizes it.

Regardless, rap started in the 1970s and we can also see crime has been considerably higher than before there was any rap, so it obviously has some effect.

Not only that, but it gets trashier and trashier with each passing generation, look at Tekashi as the best example of this.

You can only be influenced by what you're exposed to. If a 4 year old is exposed to hard-core pornography it will have issues. Ban porn?

The answer is parenting & taking personal responsibility on a grand scale - in response to.your Parent A & B example.

Fact of the matter is, todays rap music is toxic and a shadow of what rap was meant to be. Rappers & music artists in general just do what their distributors will tell them makes financial sense for them to distribute & promote.

So if a change in parenting and accepting personal responsibility for the parents is such a grand delusion, target your concern towards said distributors, who by the way, aren't black or poor, jussayin.

It probably makes the situation a little worse, but mostly it just reflects a bad reality that has already been there.
Compare it to metal. A lot of metal has some even more violent and degenerate lyrics. Most metal fans still don't end up as thugs though due to their different socioeconomic backgrounds.

people dont understand there is good and bad in everything. there is good uplifting rap( about getting out the hood, getting money, owning business, buying your mom a house, invesintg etc) and there is the bad.

what about metal? rock and roll? do these genres uplift and promote good in these communities lmaoo? or is there good and bad in all music? lawls

rap is way more aggressive. i listen to everything, but rap is much more aggressive in what it puts in your head. i mainly also listen to rap to get into that aggressive hostile mindset.

i actually witnessed something like this in person, maybe coincidence though. was on the bus and saw this dude putting on the holla if ya hear me tupac music video on his phone (which is one of my favs, but really aggressive) and the guy was getting like mentally pumped and he got up and pushed someone next to him for standing beside him. then that pissed me off and i asked him wtf was that for and the dude just kept looking at me and kept quiet. was a white dude

It's disgusting how pervasive it is, rather than look up to a family member like you as a doctor he looks up to some degenerate rappers preaching degeneracy. Also as rap has such a low talent threshold anyone can do it which makes it attainable to people, rather than learning an instrument/learning to sing which really separates those with drive and talent from the rest of the pack.

I'm sure he'll come round and get over it, most likely just a phase he's going through.

Are there any rappers out there telling kids to get a good education, stay in school and work hard???? LMAO

I'm mostly out of the loop with modern "popular" music across the board, but from what little that I've seen about today's "mumble rappers" in general, I can empathize with the negative effect they're having on kids.

What seems to be different now is how they're similar to Youtube stars where they're otherwise devoid of anything particularly special and exhibit no real talent beyond being very fortunate one way or the other (despite seemingly squandering their position and opportunity). They set the bar so low that younger kids like your nephew think that's attainable, and if it weren't for a lack of connections, they'd be somewhat accurate; any halfwit can mumble about being a degenerate kunt to a half-assed beat thrown together in a few minutes - just like how anyone can act like a moron on Twitch/Youtube while playing Fortnite.

Compare what was out even just over a decade ago with the mumble dreck and skittle twats you see today high on ***** and it's eye opening for sure how the contemporary scene is littered with absolute hacks. I mean, hell - the technology istherewhere you can make insanely creative, complex music compilations... and these lil' chits make the most braindead-basic stuff that it's the musical equivalent of a lobotomy.
I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine

not as much. i mostly listen to rock and heavy metal and not much of it is as "hostile" as rap. i specifically listen to rap to get into the "thug" "gangster" "stoic" vibe. though i listen to the oldies, like pac, biggie, mobb deep, etc.. with heavy metal and rock you barely hear songs that are like "i'm gonna murder this mother ****er, beat em up, gonna **** u up" themes. yeah there are still a lot angry rock music but there's not as much of it as there is rap and it's usually not as specific. i actually wish there were more like good angry, aggressive, songs in heavy metal. like some rappers' whole album is based on cold realities and themes of "thug" living.

marilyn manson is the only one in the entire rock genre i can think of that could influence people badly because of the themes in the majority of his songs, but i ****ing love him, he's in my top 5 favorite artists of all time.
There is only one Hell: the one we live in now.

Metal and Rock doesn't promote being a gang member, drug dealer, and serial killer.

That's rap music (and Dancehall music).

No disrespect, but if you've listened to a lot of metal and rock, I don't see how you can compare the violent criminality of the lyrics. Rap is way, way worse. They literally make albums based around murdering people, that doesn't happen in any other genre.

edit: Dude above nailed it.
