about 3(50) percent imo
kids are in school and around their friends for the majority of their day during their development years.

not 100%.
i know parents who are good parents. and some of their kids turned out great with minimal effort, emotionally stable, successful, well-behaved...with minimal effort. and their other kids were good too but not great like their siblings. why? cus nature does play a part, it's not only nurture.
some people are naturally good. they forgive easily, they're open-minded, not selfish. the average person has to make an effort to develop these qualities.
alos, media, internet, peer pressure play a large role in shaping a kid's attitude. you can try to instill simplicity and gratitude in your kids, but if they're watching chitloads of television and their friends are spoilt, they're prolly gonna be lil brats too.

It SHOULD, however our society these days forces both parents to work -- and in some cases work long hours -- instead of staying home and focusing on their child's upbringing. Some kids spend more awake hours in daycare or with a babysitter than with their own mothers.

You're one of the few posters I've seen who who aren't retarded but gonna have to disagree with you here. My dad is a chem prof and raised me to be the same way. I chase thots and occasionally get into scuffles that get the cops called. Explain that.

You're right on point, Don. Towards the end of high school, I recall looking around at my peers. Some I had known since preschool. It's amazing how much better the kids with good families turn out. Honestly, I think if folks understood the value of having a stable, intact family, they might actually put in the effort to pull their **** together before popping out babies. The biggest privilege in life is being raised by two committed, motivated and stable parents. It's the best gift you could ever give your child.

the school environment plays a big role in it too.
Teachers these days need to be better disciplinarians. The “safe” spaces schools are becoming is definitely not good for anybody.

but no parent would leave their child alone with a relative they were not 100% sure about or teacher, that's not "best parental care"...that's raising a child in a psycho extended family and having their child go to a low tier, trash school that doesn't do background checks and leaves teachers unattended 1 on 1 with pupils, also not instilling in children not to be alone with strange adults.

I'd say 80% should fall on the parents 20% on the kid.
Unfortunately parents choose bad decisions, like focusing on career and making money for the kids instead of spending time with the kids. This results in the peers raising the kids, schools/teachers, coaches, relatives, day care. Either way, the exposure to those elements is the parents responsibility.
But there's plenty of kids that have had it all and still manage to fuk it up, because they want to. Some kids just want to watch the world burn.

It takes a village to raise a child
Parents are a huge factor - but we have free will. Drugs, peer groups, media, are external and can ruin a kid despite parents best intentions. Even medical 'best practices' can warp kids. Sometimes children have mental defects and our technologies and medicines can't afford a normal opportunity. The game can be rigged too.
What about kids with no parents under state ward status? Abused early on in life by caretakers? Disadvantaged significantly through lack of psychological, economic, and medical support? Are you saying the lack of existence is 100% on the biological mother/father? Seems like a stretch.

If you want to argue semantics then the guardians/caretakers/parents/legal guardians/custodians of the children are responsible(but I can't fit that in the title)

My wife was watching a show on netflix where this dude was molesting his neighbors 12 year old daughter, said he was going to take her horseback riding and then kidnapped her for a few days. The signs were always there, the parents just ignored it.
The molestor also had affairs with the childs mother and father srs lmao.
