Okay, so if the children are stolen through violent means - is that the parents fault too? Wizard above me just gave a scenario.

It isn't an unreal situation either. Faulting people for their birth seems very far stretched.

Yes they were because the parents didn't have a contingency/home defense against the invaders

How could anyone have kids without a secure home, access to weapons or a plan in case shtf??? I wouldn't be able to sleep at night in those circumstances

A parent bears the ultimate responsibility and any lack of contingency or forethought is on them. Extreme ownership

It's true.

Besides all of the religious chit, thanks to my upbringing I didn't turn into a hoodrat. First time my father caught me sagging my pants I got a smack and a lecture.

Government took their weapons and the invaders were armed with medieval devices for smashing down doors

Anyone who has kids in a warzone is a sociopath who knowingly birthed their children into the jaws of hell, so yes their responsibility and may they burn in hell for giving in to selfish desire of raising kids in an unsafe environment.

No. There are a lot of things we cannot control in life and are for the most part powerless to stop. That is especially true in dictatorships, socialist, fascist, and communist regimes. Find a better argument.

Not an argument. Riots and violence can happen in totally peaceful areas. We don't live in bubbles of insular peace and protection from all things.

I believe in extreme ownership, you believe in excuses and being powerless. It's your mindset not mine.

We are diametrically opposed.

Honestly, what percent of kids does this actually apply to? You think it's a high enough percentage to fully debunk Don's claim? It's like using unwanted alien insemination to argue in favor of abortion. Argue the majority, cowboy.

Nature vs nurture argument has been around for ages. While there is no clear cut answer upbringing plays a massive role no matter how you slice it. Without bringing in extreme examples I'd say its somewhere around 50/50 give or take depending on your perspective.

There are some generally interesting studies and cases of identical twins being raised in different environments from birth. If this is something you actually care to know more about rather then just spewing opinions on the misc look into it.

https://www.livescience.com/47288-tw...-genetics.html

Cant be arsed to find the actual studies this isn't unique and I'm on a phone

Two things mainly influence how a kid turns out - their parents and their friends. If the kid has great parents but bad friends, there's a chance they'll turn out bad as well. And vice versa.

He's saying 100% and I'm saying nah, fam. He's the one in the wrong. He's pulling a Steve Crowder concept (as shown above) and not all things are black and white. He's not creating a valid argument to enshrine the 100% value. There are exceptions.

He's not saying 100% of parents are responsible of how their kids turn out. Read the title again. He's saying that in general, parents are fully (100%) responsible of how their kids turn out. Finding very rare exceptions to this rule doesn't debunk his assessment.

You're the one making the claim. Those children soldiers aren't a sign of parental guidance. Laughable if you think dead parents are to blame too. Now who' s the child for not being able to go, "Yeah, okay maybe not 100%."

Nah that’s just a cop-out for people who are **** ups in life. You can come from a chit environment & turn out fine & alternatively you can come from a great environment & turn out to be an absolute train wreck.

It’s ultimately on you.

It is ultimately on you...that's the point.

If you're a parent it's ultimately on you.

One does not exclude the other and everyone must be responsible in life boyo.

Imagine if I purported your argument to parents "oh how your kid turns out is their responsibility"...either way it's not a good outlook

Anyone who chooses to give birth to kids in that country has no regard for their childs safety.

What if war breaks out and there are limited opportunities?

Parents can’t always control that!

Best parents can do is invest in you and teach you to think for yourself but the way you turn out has to do with your shifting outer environment too!
If any of you need to chat, PM me. I'm here for you boyos.

Respect to you for understanding how huge of an undertaking it is and the importance of it, something more parents could have done with in todays society.

Then the answer is no, not 100%. You didn't make an articulate argument disavowing overwhelming external factors and 'acts of god.'

Dirty, based on your posts I think you'll make a good parent someday if you have kids. While I generally agree with your sentiment about parenting being the single biggest factor in how people turn out. I don't think it's fair to say 100% Becoming a parent is incredibly humbling because you realize that not only are you not doing EVERYTHING perfectly but also that you CAN'T. It's not possible. Nobody in the history of the world has ever been perfect and by extension been a perfect parent. Part of you will always think/wonder if you're REALLY doing everything you possibly can for your kid(s).
