Thanks for the suggestion brah, will go through the beginner and intermediate playlists and repeat the content out loud. Pronunciation is my major concern, not worried about any other aspects.

Day 2 of German:
Assimil is boring as hell, watched 2 hours of the "Easy German" playlist suggested by a Miscer instead, and found that more enjoyable. Not sure if I want to go through Assimil... Might go through the youtube playlist, then start reading interesting texts with audio and create flashcards for new words. Looking to learn 1000-1500 words, then I will move to bidirectional translating texts.

This is why I recommend people go through Pimsleur first rather than Assimil. Assimil is the more complete system, but is somewhat of a grind due to how simple/boring the first few lessons are. Pimsleur isalmostgamefied with the listen/repeat/recall system. They're longer lessons but you want to keep going because it's cool to listen to yourself constructing sentences in this foreign language. By the time you finish the 30 lessons in unit 1 you'll feel an urge to want to construct your own sentences. This desire provides a stronger fuel to grind through the Assimil book stuff.

The Easy German/French/Spanish/Italian series is a goldmine. The "Super Easy" series is dramatically slowed down, but when you get to the street interviews, it's an amazing way for tuning your hear to how people really speak the language. Not efficient for this to be your only source of learning. It's more ear development.

If I were you I'd go through a lesson of Michel Thomas and a lesson of Pimsleur (both of which may or may not be able to find free on internetz). Choose one, not both, and go through either program while supplementing with Easy German

So to the suggestion of a brah earlier ITT, I downloaded Skyrim (haven't played it since launch pretty much) and the game has a full included audio and subtitle language support for Russian! Started a new journey. Some complex ass words, and fantasy-related stuff I probably won't get much of IRL, so there are moments where I'm pausing to look it up but so far useful as a whole tbh
I slow down so I can gather the power,

Today was npcr lesson 2 - spent 30 mins writing out characters and saying the phrases out loud. Nothing ground breaking just getting too where I used to be

Arabic would be hard but interests me the most. I know like roughly 10 words lol and reading/writing it? that's another story. haven't even tried and wont for a while if ever.

But I'm currently in Amman and I feel like the best way to learn a language is to immerse yourself in a country that speaks it.

with self study included while in the country in question? Yes.

I can go to Brazil but won’t reach A2 in Portuguese just by living there a few months and learning how to place an order. My brother has been teaching English in Japan for 3 years and still not B1 due to laziness in studies. From what he tells me, he has survival levels of Japanese.

For the people recommending Assimil, where on earth are you buying it from? There doesn't seem to be a dedicated website for it for Americans, and the selection on amazon is crazy sparse. Or was it "bought" at a cove-of-buccaneers website? I kinda need the physical book so torrenting isn't much of an option

I found the pdf on manadarin today and saved it to my iBooks. I’ll print it out to make it easier but the pdf version is not bad. Now I need the audio but can’t find a downloadable version yet.

Did pimsluers mandarin 1 tracks 13 and 14, few more and I will have caught up where I was.

lol'd at bolded. I've used amazon and ebay. The times i've used ebay it was usually just the book to which i'd then acquire audio from the cove-of-buccaneers.

May I ask what language you're wanting to learn? The starter level of assimil is the "with ease" series that includes audio CDs. so if you search amazon for "Assimil with ease" I'm seeing, Italian, Portuguese, French, Hebrew, German, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, Hungarian, and Yiddish. Wouldn't exactly call that sparse.

Today’s - pimsluers 1 lesson 15
Does anyone write down the words or just do the speaking and listening with pimsluer?

Assmils lesson 1 and 2. I have no audio but still can use the book and use google translate or my pleco app to learn the pronunciation.

I'm with ya. Been working 12+ hours a day for a couple weeks. With commute, i'm out the house 13-14+ hours.

I like to listen to podcasts when I get a break in between work. At least getting something done. I'm slowly gonna start working in anki reps, but I've been hesistant because I like to deeply focus on them when I do them.

I pay between $12 and 20$ per session depending on time 30minites or 45minutes and depending on the teacher

In on thread. Started learning Spanish last year, but had to put on hold for work and moving. Picking back up now that I saw this thread, was quite consistent with it last year but life just got too crazy. Have any of you guys use the learning transfer series on YouTube? The guy is English first language so some of his accents seem a little bit off, but I feel like it is a good place to start if you don't have a clue where to begin - not comprehensive by any means but is easy to follow.

Last year my routine consisted of 15 minutes of duolingo or memrise a day, 30 minutes of YouTube lessons and the odd day of flashcards. Still remember quite a bit of vocab
