It's frowned upon but some of the legendary houses are known for it.

I read the books before the show came out (no hipster) and this is a rare case when i think the show is actually better than the books (inb4 negs from bookwhores)

Just finished season one after seeing this thread a few days ago. The show is fantastic and Im definitely hooked but so far, I don't see it being in the GOAT conversation with The Wire or season 1 of True Detective. Will likely binge the next 6 or however many seasons there are in the next couple of weeks and report back.

Which is something that cannot be said for most shows. Be it the crime show cop, that ends in weekly shoot outs with the murderer, the sitcom family, which have some unnecessary quarrel every day or even some great show like the Sopranos, which can be totally unbelievable at times.

He also explored topics and plots in a way no other author in his genre did before him.

I haven't read the books but the setting isn't creative, the character names are extremely dumb, and I don't think the political intrigue is interesting.

I think Martin wanted to write a historical novel, but thought it wouldn't be gripping enough, or maybe too hard, and decided to write a lame one with dragons, etc to make it fantasy, but he didn't really have much of an idea. I have read MANY novels and there's a lot better stuff out there with very creative settings and unique situations.

I put the hammer down...I WILL NOT pay for HBO for the last season.

I feel the exact same way about the Walking dead.
