What she did was not racist. People who think "blackface" are the racist people. If you see anything negative about dressing up as your favorite Cosplay character then you ARE the problem.

That’s the context for this. More context for this, which a lot of commenters seem to be ignoring: how the practice comes off to black Americans. If you are not a person of color (and I am not), it is not your place to say that something pertaining directly to people of color is not racist or hurtful. You are not the subject matter expert. Several organizations led by or advocating for people of color have publicly condemned the practice and have done so for years. You should be listening to them.

That’s called deflecting. It would be like making fun of dying cancer patients and then when ppl get mad, you say “lol you can be butthurt and offended! Such victim mentality!!!”
No. It’s called not being a chitty person. It’s 2019 and ppl are still arguing about not doing racist things.
Incredible

At the end of the day it's just a girl doing some cosplay. If you want to find that offensive, that's on you. I can respect that, and I can see where you're coming from. I just think there are better battles to fight when it comes to this kind of stuff, i.e. people who who intend to be offensive, racist, cause harm to others, etc. The intention wasn't there for her, and she's not even American.
The act of face painting itself isn't harmful to anyone. It's only offensive to some because of the baggage it carries with some chitty things people did in previous generations. There's nothing really in inherently harmful about it. It's just kind of chitty that little things like this are off limits because of some generational baggage from some ignorant generations

Blackface = mocking blacks by highlighting "black" features such as big lips and frizzy hair. Real "blackface" is inherently offensive.
Simply dressing up as a black character is NOT blackface.
But there is no room for nuance in today's society so phuck it, burn her at the stake!

Blackface was invented bc whites didn’t want to pay black ppl to act in their movies/shows/model shows/comics etc. they had “regular looking” black face too.

i think we can all agree that white people in general are in a better place in society than black people. so theres something understood to be off about white people trying to, effectively, lower their status for a fun night out. and thats without the historical connotation of black face.
just keep your own skin color jesus

Strong hypocrisy strong everything

"y’all know y’all can still cosplay as black characters and STILL be your skin color right?"

She needs to go offline & do something with her life instead of consuming Twitter all day.

That was..
wait for it..
someone playing a character.
As I said, "blackface" is inherently offensive because of the history of minstrel shows.
I don't give a fuk what society says, or the media, or the popular talking heads. Dressing up or simply playing a character is not offensive.
It's funny how no one really gave a FUK about this until very recently, until being offended became socially beneficial. Tropic Thunder is a decade old. And hilarious. It was then, and it is now.

I also like how you swerved the argument and went straight to my skin colour. You need to stay off twitter for a while, buddy.
How is being perpetually offended and therefore seeing yourself as a victim helping anyone? Do you think that’s a healthy way to live?

Females cosplay a shade every time they throw makeup on
Personally I think if it is on intent of mockery or dehumanizing if it is offensive, just like the n word

It will never be okay to paint yourself black and pretend to be a black person. I’m sorry that it hurts you that it’ll never be okay.

It was okay up until a few years ago when society took a giant nosedive down the chitter and nuance went out the window which led to fully grown men getting offended at people playing dress up.
That’s the reality of the situation. You don’t have to like it, you don’t have to accept it, but facts are facts.

Common sense has already won. You can argue, bitch and moan all you want. It isn’t okay and NOTHING you say on this forum will change that. Get over it
