Trial starts in late May. I'll be the first one to say I'm mistaken but we'll see what happens. This chit does go on though over there.

this is what happens when you've been at war for 19 years, these guys are in a high tempo unit because sof is being utilized far more than conventional troops and being put in more dangerous situations since they dont have conventional force backing and have to rely on indig forces. its not suprising the burn in is occuring

tldr: troops need a break even if they're sof, constant deployments are taxing and will change you

boy = armed ISIS fighter

him killing a boy that was being treated is not know to be fact at this point, hence upcoming trial (Iraqi officers who were at the scene told Navy investigators that they did not see the captive die)

Stuff like this is why a lot of the people in Iraq/Afghanistan have a deep hatred for us and continue to try get revenge.

We go into their country for oil/opium/"weapons of mass destruction", bomb the chit of their homeland, kill innocent people for no apparent reason other than the retarded logic of "well hurr durr the terrorists killed one of my guys so that means I get to kill an innocent person now".

There's a reason why, what, seven platoon members including senior SEALsreported him for what he did over there. There's no excuse for that chit.

There's no black and white in this world, only nuances of grey when talking about geopolitics. Case in point, what you just said about the justification for going to war, particularly Iraq which was unjust and illegal. Just lol at the the US and Europeans calling out Russia and China for aggression and violation of rights, when looking at their own track record in terms of warfare over the years. One would at least hope that the soldiers have their moral compass intact on an individual level.

This happened in 2002 after their first deployment.

4 Wives Slain In 6 Weeks At Fort Bragg

By Dan Collins

July 31, 2002 / 12:04 PM / CBS
In the past six weeks, four wives of soldiers at Fort Bragg have been murdered. Each death is blamed on the husband.

CBS News Correspondent Jim Krasula reports Fort Bragg commanders are concerned since three of the four domestic murder cases involve Special Operations soldiers who had been deployed to Afghanistan. Two of the soldiers killed themselves as well.

Well it's kind of hard to believe 7 SEALS were "slackers" and are lying. Somebody is definitely wrong here.

It would also be quite unconscionable if it comes out that he was guilty and all these lunatics are out there celebrating what he did. Boy was not armed btw. He was an unarmed prisoner receiving medical treatment.

I'll also remind you that the SEALs who are testifying against him also served their country just like him and had to go against the enormous pressure to not speak out. Dude most likely did what they say he did.

But I will wait and see what the trial says.

Ah, gotcha. We don't trust the two SEALS, but we trust the one SEAL. And while we are at it, we also don't trust those medics. And we don't trust the documented attempts to report it to higher-ups. But that ONE SEAL, yeah, in him we trust, because his family and some nutjobs are running a good twitter campaign for him.

Alrighty.

https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-...-crimes-cases/

I'll post some snippets of this whole thing that I read (good read).. Looks like the AIOC (Assistant Officer in Charge) basically layed out some details to prosecutors on the before and after that lead to some of it to paint a better picture of the guy.
The AOIC said he was informed that there would be a platoon meeting in Alpha’s highbay (a locker room) and Gallagher would be given the chance to speak to the junior SEALs.

He said he confronted Portier in the parking lot outside the meeting room and told him β€œthey needed to do something about SOC Gallagher’s actions instead of giving him a platform to speak.”

The AOIC said Gallagher suddenly rushed up to them, got in the AOIC’s face and said, β€œIf you take me down, I will take all of you down.”

After the SEAL powwow, the AOIC said Gallagher sidled over to him to reimburse him for a haircut he bought the chief during the deployment in Iraq. The AOIC refused and looked at Portier and said, β€œYou know this is not about the money,” according to the proffer.
After Mosul fell to Iraqi forces, the AOIC recollected a conversation he had with the lead petty officer in the SEAL platoon and Gallagher about why they joined the Navy. The SO1 and the AOIC said they put on the uniform due to β€œloving their country and trying to live by the SEAL ethos,” he said.

But Gallagher β€œsaid that he didn’t believe in any of that, and that he joined the military so he could get the chance to kill someone.”

The AOIC said that triggered another round of discussions with Portier about relieving Gallagher.
The AOIC told prosecutors he’s prepared to testify about another incident that occurred in a safe house in northern Iraq in which Gallagher asked β€œhow easy it would be to kill someone back home” and if he β€œcould get away with it.”

The AOIC said he was β€œshocked that SOC Gallagher would say this and believes most of the people there were shocked as well.”
Initially, many of the AOIC’s concerns stemmed from a growing belief that Gallagher was exercising poor judgement that could pointlessly get SEALs killed.

At one point, Gallagher told him that Alpha Platoon needed to find Islamic State elements and get in β€œone good TIC” (Troops in Contact, the direct and violent engagement with an enemy), β€œone where you need to focus on your field of fire or else you could take (a bullet) to the side of the head,” according to the proffer.

The AOIC told Gallagher this sort of training by fire β€œwas extremely unnecessary” but Gallagher shot back that his SEALs were β€œall a bunch of pussies," the document states.

Little bit more:
One of the members of Gallagher’s unit β€” Alpha Platoon, SEAL Team 7 β€” is expected to testify that Gallagher confessed that he β€œkilled four women,” according to Naval Criminal Investigative Service files and legal records provided to Navy Times.

Two other SEAL petty officers told investigators Gallagher bragged about slaying β€œ10-20 people a day or 150-200 people on deployment,” court documents state.
And a fellow sniper intends to tell the panel that Gallagher claimed, β€œhe averaged three kills a day over 80 days,” according to legal filings obtained by Navy Times.

Three other SEALs are slated to say their platoon chief took "random shots, sometimes into buildings, where he claimed to have killed someone,” similar filings allege.

One of the SEALs overhead the chief say he was β€œOK with shooting women” and another saw him β€œfire into a crowd of what appeared to be noncombatants multiple times," records state.
And still more SEALs say they’ll tell the panel that Gallagher attempted to cover up these alleged crimes by threatening to murder witnesses and embarking on a campaign to identify other whistleblowers, get them blacklisted in the special warfare community and ruin their careers.

Keep in mind that everything in that article is hearsay. Thats just what one reporter wrote no matter how incriminating they make it sound.

Look at what goes on with Trump. All sorts of stuff about him being a russian spay and stuff like that written bye prestigious reporters. So its not far fetched to imagine them making up stuff abut this guy.

I have no idea what actually went on but I bet the guy in real life was a demanding ******* and now we get guys trying to take him down because he he was just that. Also what he are hearing is just one sides interpretation of any events that may or may not have happened.

Kill them all and get out. War isn't supposed to be for the faint of heart and for figuring out who is good and bad. Its dirty and nasty with the purpose of eliminating your opponent with minimal casualties on your side.

Rules during war are an invention of modern society due to our removal from how real life is kill or be killed, and will be thrown out the minute anything of substance is being risked. I don't care how it's carried out or by whom, and the only objective should be to not die (ie... win).
what? The point of going to war has strategic goals. "kill them all and get out" makes no strategic sense at all. There is no point to that war of "killing them all and getting out". The purpose of the war in Afghanistan is to install a bunch of puppets. And killing randoms or "killing them all" is not going to achieve that aim.

So, we kill them all and get out, then Russia or Saudi moves in and installs their own puppet there? Did all the dirty work for a foreign nation?

Don't lump all military into "psychopaths" because of one chitbag. Civilians put too much value in trivial things that will never affect them.

Yeah and let criminals in civilian life get taken care of by civilians instead of an independent power.

On one hand I understand what you mean... But honestly, if you capture an actual enemy soldier, he won't be back the next day. Having been in combat really isn't an excuse to commit atrocious war crimes. It's a reason why your mind may have gotten damaged but it is no better of an excuse than a child molester having been molested in his childhood. Things happen in the line of duty, sure. Killing unarmed kids in those circumstances isn't part of the duty though.

Besides, the military already handled part of it. His brothers reported him because he did things they cannot condone.

And civilians can absolutely judge guys like him for what they have done. This isn't a guy who made a bad call in a fukked up situation. This is a guy who committed war crimes in cold blood. You handle these guys to show that fellow servicemen aren't like that, that they uphold a higher standard. Minimalizing this only inspires doubt in perfectly fine other people in the service.

I can't say I agree with the guy sniping people just to kill them, but the guy has seen and done chit that I can't even relate to so who am I to judge. I don't think its reasonable to "program"/train people to kill then expect them to turn it off again when appropriate. I feel for the guy and hope he can get some help and honestly a soft sentence.

So did the guys who turned him in. But they did so, knowing it was at a tremendous risk to their careers and possibly their lives. That's the thing. There are plenty of highly decorated senior navy SEALs who are witnesses against him. That should say something. Those men saw the same chit.

I'm saying for jobs like spec forces, there is going to be a higher percentage of psychopaths, since it confers an advantage in that line of work. There are bound to be a few bad apples. The thing that bothers me is the lack of any type of ethical oversight and the close nature of the group can result in people covering for the paychopath's crimes.
