which do you guys think is the saddest scene in the entire series?
GoT S8 is barely in the top 8 of its own show.

One of the saddest scenes - which wasnt mentioned so far - was Hodor derping out as a kid and then sacrificing himself so the little sperglord could escape.

Also Arya seeing Robb after the Red Wedding with Grey Wind's head sewn to his body.

this and when Princess Shireen gets burnt alive.... that was brutal.

the only thing more brutal was all of Season 8 but in a very different way.

People are still talking about the show? I don’t see the point considering it went from a 10/10 to a 5/10. It’s like that girl we knew from high school who used to be a dime but then she aged into a gross wildebeest.

That was super stupid...so much potential there and at BEST all I can say is he was baiting the NK but the whole ambush idea was presented the prior episode when Bran said the NK knew where he was at all times cuz of the mark on his arm...so then what's the point of the ravens?

If he was checking in on the NK to make sure he was coming....isn't he supposed to know that chit?

Scene was super pointless.

All three of those are excellent picks. Shireen's burning wassowell acted that it really should have been the benchmark for what season 8 needed to evenhopeto achieve with the death of a character as vital to the story as Daenerys.

Likewise, Arya witnessing Robb's disfigured body is such a great pick, as it's a reminder of how her arc went so off the rails from a traumatized child desperately trying to reconcile everything she had experienced and her rampant emotions into a super badass ninja girl who knows killers when she sees them after they just committed mass genocide and also suddenly likes boats.

As I was typing above, it occurred to me that other than a cool transition shot from the cinematographer's perspective, the only explanation that I could imagine would be Bran surveying the battlefield so that he would know how long it would take for Arya to shank the Night King, and therefore how long to keep Theon there with baited breath waiting from some form of redemption.

For reference, the actor was asked about what Bran's intent behind that message was, and he said just that: it was pretty much an empty platitude that wasted enough time for the dominoes to fall at the precise time.

As a related theory, the Three Eyed Raven could possibly be growing in power the longer he exists between bodies. Having Greensight allows him to see past, present, and future, and therefore he can access an increasing amount of information from any of the three as he grows older.

Like a cloud server that gradually gets filled up from everyone's data, the Three Eyed Raven keeps absorbing more and more. In this analogy, Bran was like a hardware upgrade that required fresh software and driver installations (the training), but because that was cut short, the memory synchronization was also interrupted and he was forced to manually pour through history (re-retrieve cloud data). That could explain his constant absentee-status, with Bran saying how he lives mostly in the past. However, when we're talking about the entirety of human history, that also could constitute as "most," with the rest of Bran's catatonic, derp-staring being dedicated to analyzing the future.

Now if we use Robert Baratheon's breastplate stretcher to stretch this theorizing further, the previous Three Eyed Raven had said that "the ink is dry" in regards to the past, but Bran has twice proven that this is not so cut and dry. Once with shouting out his father's name, causing a young Ned Stark to turn his head as though he heard Bran calling through time, and most damning of both the extent of his powers and of Bran himself, he was able to affect thepast's futureby altering it to coincide with his and Hodor's present. It could be reasoned that Bran's actions were a loop of sorts, in that he would always go back to yell out his father's name or be there to turn Wyllis into Hodor, which would perhaps (hopefully) discourage him from meddling with the past - and let's just assume that was a necessary lesson he holds to for the sake of simplicity.

A passive observation stance on the past, leaving it completely unaltered, this leave the Three Eyed Raven/Bran to use whatever visions/dreams/prophecies/ect. of the future to piece together the points in between that lead to those coming to fruition, or possibly how to change them. The ink might be dry for the past, but he holds the quill (a fookin' feather, of course...) to potentially make alterations or edits in the present in order to write the future.

What has happened in the past always transpired that way, down to Bran making time travel mistakes, but future could be far more malleable in the sense that we all make choices. Consider Cersei asking Maggie the Frog to tell her her future: many of Cersei's actions and her paranoia can be explained by having been given a glimpse into knowledge she was normally never supposed to know. Had she not inquired about her future, would she have acted differently through her life, sparing the lives of her children and brother? It's impossible to say, especially for someone like Cersei...

Taking all of this together, Bran had an idea of how the battle would go down, how the Night King would stroll up leisurely, and how Arya was going to be redirected towards a deus ex machina kill, so he used the ravens to keep an overhead view and ensure everything was aligning just so.

~~~
Butnarratively, as viewers? Aw hell no, Bran's a bloody useless twat regardless if the above was close to his powers/motives because he still chose to do nothing when it counted, and he only acted in ways that helped him "come all this way" to become king.
The truth of the matter is that most writers can'd do time travel or extremely powerful individuals in a satisfying manner because it's bloody difficult to make compelling, consistent, and logical stories with elements that can give you a migraine just for trying to follow along for several minutes, let alone an entire story. D&D are nowhere near being intelligent enough to handle that kind of curveball in an already intricate series like A Song of Ice and Fire, so what we get is a lot of empty staring by some autistic creeper who is probably the least liked character in the entire series because he could have been replaced halfway through the show with an actual tree.
was looking into the prequel and its connections to the main series and it got me thinking about some things.
So you know how they said that the iron swords on the laps of stark kings in the crypts were there to keep the vengeful spirits in their tombs? Theres a deep history with the starks and the Others and some people think these “vengeful spirits” are related to the Others.
Then, there was a scene where Mara,Asha, and Bran take some iron swords from the winterfell crypts. Bran particularly takes Brandon Stark’s. Brandon Stark was the original “Night’s King” who gave his seed to a female white walker.
Perhaps when Brandon removed the sword he let loose the spirit of Brandon Stark, which then went to inhabit (or create) who we know as the Night King. Perhaps this is why the NK is suddenly now marching south and why he has such interest in Bran, aside from being the 3ER.
Honestly, im probably making large leaps but i find the iron sword thing interesting and im pretty excited for the prequel
just proof thats its better than what all the hipsters want to try to spin it into at this point. yea the writing went south during season 7 and throughout 8, but theres so much more to this story and world than 13 episodes of gimped writing (comparatively).
i mean when 6 of the other seasons are top 10 tv series seasons of all time then a sub-par season 7 and 8 are still better than almost anything else on tv. they just look worse because they are compared to legendary seasons
I still defend Season 7, a season of very effective payoffs. Cant even explain the feels when fukin Drogon comes out of the clouds in Episode 4. It felt more "Chit is goin down" than Season 8 ever will.
And I can't understand D&D's decision to fuk off the conclusion to their beloved series when it was still held in extremely high regard. They basically shat all over their own legacy.
Jax, when you are spinning your theories about the show -- are you talking about the book story or the show? I ask because if you are talking about the show, then you're barking up the wrong tree. It's over. There was no internal logic to the world. Things just happened for no reason. The Night King existed because they wanted a mean looking guy to build up so they could then yoink the rug out from under the audience and subvert our expectations. That's it. No other reason.
So, this idea that Bran unleashed his ancestor's spirit, iron swords holding special purpose, some level of thought and detail -- No. Not in that world. We got to see, finally, that what we thought was a world based on the foundation of rules and reason was all a lie. It's a truly fantastic place where reality shifts and oozes around with no rhyme or reason, the fundamental laws of the universe serve no master other than the God of Subverting Expectations. The only way anything happens is by subversion, none of this actual logic or rules that determine how things play out. Come on.
That was an awesome moment, probably one of my favorite of the entire show. However, season 7 was in retrospect pure crap, we just ignored a lot of it because of the previous good will that had been built up season 1-5. Things started going south the episode after Hardhome, IMO. They bent Stannis over and ruined his entire character and did it in an utterly unsatisfying way -- which was sadly what they would eventually do to every character other than that Onion Knight guy and, maybe, Theon.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
I can't remember the Stannis plot very well (only watched the series one time through) but I remember people being pissed off about it.
Season 7 was also a casualty of a rushed season. There was a point where I felt it was too rapid fire, but the payoffs outshined that.
On another note, looks like the "bitter" neckbeards of r/freefolk setup a donation to Emilia Clarke's charity as a sign of appreciation:https://www.justgiving.com/fundraisi...icefordaenerys
There's so many stupid youtube "podcasters" talking chit about the petition, because they're too lazy to read the author's statement that he applauds the cast for their performances.
