But in all srsness I could probably live comfortably with like 2-3k net after all bills

Did some cash flow calculations today and my fixed household expenses are sitting at just over $4k. I could definitely be pretty comfortable with 6k net income all in, would leave a bit under $2k for food and everything else every month

Net dumbass, not gross. 55k for me if I don't hit any OT and 35k or so for her at the moment working 30 hours a week. We both make >20 hourly plus zero cost insurance and other benefits. I don't feel a need to fraud my income like 98% of the Misc.

As for midwest and tornadoes, f*ck that noise. We live half a mile from the bay and 20-25 minutes from downtown Houston if we actually wanted to go to the city for some reason.

10k net a month and still check to check. Our standard of living is pretty high, I guess. I may be taking a job where I get paid way less, too. We will see how that goes.

Can the ones saying 10k+ please break it down?

I‘m living in one of the best parts of an expensive European city, consistenly being voted into the top three of all cities in the world. I own a home worth over 1M, have no debt whatsoever and wouldn‘t know how to make my life any better beyond 5k-6k per month, supporting a family with two children. What exactly is it that makes life so expensive in US cities?

Income fraudcels trying to feel better about their miserable existence by lying about their income on an internet message board and/or cope for the fact they are spending $2-3k+ a month renting a shoebox so they can live the "downtown lifestyle." No thanks Jeff, that's not it for me.

I‘m not saying I don‘t believe them, I just don‘t know where all the money would go, unless being completely unreasonable. Or maybe I‘m missing something that is unique to the US.

It's easy. I see coworkers blow $10k+ because they don't plan for the future. Simple steps:

Buy a BMW and a F250 ($1700 in car payments)
$400/month for insurance
Rent an apartment downtown for $2700/month plus $200 to park your car
$500/month cell phone, internet, cable
$250/week on restaurants and bars, plus probably $50/week to park your car
$175 for a fancy gym downtown

That leaves you with $3,125 for the month. Buy a few new outfits, a fancy gadget or two, go on 2 weekend vacations somewhere, and it's gone. It's even easier if you have a wife and a kid or two.

Ok, there are some things in there that seem to be unique to the US.

500$ for cell phone/internet/cable? Where I live, unlimited (minutes, text, internet) 4G cell phone is like 15$, 300Mbps internet + TV is about 70$, even if I include netflix (12$), it‘s still below 100$.

I can confirm, I live in EU too and the package for unlimited 4G cell phone + fiber + TV (don't have one but you can't exclude it from the package) costs me 74.90 euros. and it allows me to get the phone for 1 euros while it would have cost like 200 euros IIRC (could not care less of the type of phone, it is a samsung but don't know what type).

Can also confirm Vienna is expensive, the few time I flew there to enjoy dat Wiener Staatsoper that was kind of expensive but was worth it each time <3

As for me, I don't really count how much I need but it is not much I think, I would say like 1.600-1800 euros for most of the months since I live a pretty monacal life but it makes me happy overall.

Main expenses come from concerts and when I travel abroad but since I just go there for trekking the rest ain't cost anything. Sometimes I buy an old book for my little collection and that sh.. is expensive so I don't do it often cause it is pretty useless even tough I love them.

All the rest goes into my savings in order to retire pretty soon, I hope in the early or mid 40', little benefice of the FA life lol ^^ I save a lot more than I spend tbh cause I don't spend more because I earn more.

I believe that you don't need much in life, materialy speaking, and as soon as you don't have to count you should realise that you are very fortunate in this world and be gratefull for that.

People are being goofy @ what's required to be comfortable and are just waving their diks in here as if requiring 10-15k/month is indicative of something positive

You don't need material purchases & expensive vehicles to be comfortable. Don't need a $2700/month apartment (outside of extreme high COL areas where that buys you 500 sq ft). You don't need $250/week on restaurants and bars. These guys are high maintenance af, I could get by on $3k/month while single and be perfectly comfortable and that would just mean a huge portion of my income is going to investments n chit

Exactly. The title of the thread is "comfortably" and to me comfort means having all of your bills paid, extra expenses accounted for, money put into savings/investments, and still having some left over to do as you see fit with. Anything above and beyond that leaves the comfort zone and goes into unneccesary luxuries.

You can get cheap prices on all of this if you shop around, most people don't though. And you don't need the NFL Redzone package so you don't have to pay 150 for cable TV. Cell phone service is generally far more here, I think that has to do with infrastructure needs since the US is much larger and people are more spread out. Also, I'm lumping in the payment for the 2 new iPhones 12's in that estimate.

I mean, we do live very comfortably, enjoying all the advantages of the city, theater, museums, star restaurants, clubs & bars, concerts, etc. We also like to travel with the kids quite a lot and go skiing in the winter. Both my wife and I come from lower-middle class families though and we probably are still kind of conservative when it comes to spending money. We don‘t buy stuff we don‘t need and are still always looking for good prices.

I spent a little time in Austria last October, enjoyed it and everything was cheap as fuk compared to where I live now.
