They explained her in the podcast.. She's a representation of the hundreds of scientists who were working on it.

There was incompetence involved in Chernobyl, so there was incompetence 30 years earlier that was probably much worse.

Well what did you want? They can't possibly show 100 scientists working together in a mini series like this. Makes perfect sense to not waste time and resources in trivial things.
I do agree that they chose a woman because feminism though. I doubt the Soviets would listen to a female back then.

I was reading about the Kyshtym disaster yesterday, hol-e chit... the effects of that are so widespread yet the Soviets kept it under tight control.

In the review at the end of one of the episodes they explained that the female scientist was not real but represented many scientific minds efforts that where at work together coming to a solution and understanding of the problem + potential consequences.
I guess it would have been too much detail and characters involved so they just wrapped it all up into one fictional character.

In the after show they talk about how Russia was more progressive about women in those kinds of roles then US at the time.

I thought they did an alright job with this miniseries until they got to the bit where they were knocking off all the animals. To me this was nothing more than westernised propaganda to suit the agendas of today.

30 years ago next to nobody anywhere gave a **** about animal welfare least of all the ruskies.

This part of the series was pure propaganda aimed at us today! It does make me wonder about parts of the rest of the doco but I enjoyed it non the less.

They just went far to blatant and over the top with it for me.

care to elaborate?

because they weren't killing the dogs to help them out of their misery but to stop spreading contamination lol

or do you mean the part where Bacho tells Pavel not to make them suffer?

Bacho isn't a bad leader. When you connect his story from Afghanistan with telling Pavel to leave the room, Bacho looked after him.

I was just pointing it out, it didn't really bother me. It bothered the guy who posted about it in the first place.
I'm sure they could have made a fine depiction of "lots of people" being involved though.

Just looked up his twitter. Lots of cope. He’s trying to say Trump is exactly the same as the Soviet Union which is laughable. Totally ignores that Trump’s platform is based on deregulation and tax cuts and just claims “both wrap themselves in red.” Lolwut?

The show is really good though. It’s just ironic that the writer is a liberal pointing out the flaws of communism and then attempting to distance himself from those same flaws on Twitter by claiming they’re more in line with conservatism than liberal progressivism. It’s laughable.

I thought ep4 sucked compared to the previous ones. Just lol at the sobbing about shooting contaminated animals while there are people literally decomposing.

I hope they end it well, but can't see how they can wrap it up properly in ~65min.

To show that kids emotional state was a good pov on what everyone had to go through. Not everyone is a hard azz. Don't assume he even knew of what the was happening. Ok, he knew of a nuclear event but the extent not so much. The USSR wasn't exactly doling out information on the explosion and the results and health effects of it.

Pretty good series I must say. The arrogance of the state and wanting to be at the forefront of technology really doomed them from the start. You could see it throughout the show but.

Spoiler!
it really came to a head when Ulana Khomyuk found that 2 pages were ripped out of that study and confronted Legasov confirmed he knew what was in there.

Nice fallout map.

Pretty spot on accuracy for the most part. Other than them taking fire fighters back to Moscow and the dude killing his unborn child. Once they clean a victim off, you're not going to "spread" radiation sickness.
