Kinda mad I didn't do before and after DEXA scans, but they are expensive and this was kind of on a whim. My suspicion is that my loss of lean body mass will be minimal.

Day 3 and I still have hunger, but most people seem to say it goes away by day 4-5. Stomach still feels acidic. Energy is down, but not intolerable. Slept ok. Going to walk another 2-3 miles today. Feeling light and agile like a spider monkey.

FYI fasting isn't a fad. Been around since ancient religions. There's a reason fasting is talked about in all the major religious texts.

Funny how many people still put stock in nutritionists and consensus in this field when they have proven to be completely useless and self-contradictory for 60+ years

Eat 1800 calories a day 70% carbs, broken into 24 meals, to keep the furnace going

If your goal is strictly weight loss I'd say it's fine though generally not recommended. If you're fasting for benefits beyond weight loss then absolutely do not consume anything but salted water

Coincidence is that I started fasting Monday evening. Except Ill be doing 48-60 hours and eat 2 steaks, burger Patty with egg and bacon, and a few wings once I'm ready to.

Onto day 4, boiz. 80+ hours and counting. Ain't gonna lie, day 3 was tough for me. Just slept 12 hours straight. Stomach pain is mostly gone. I don't now if it's because I normally eat too much salt, but it's amazing how much less bloated I feel. Just going to relax this weekend, so that will make it easier.

Already have my meal prep done for next week.

Day 2-3 are the hardest. The lack of bloat is due to the liver releasing all of its stored glycogen, which results in your body flushing out a large amount of water. The same explanation for the initial quick weight loss on an a very low carb ketogenic diet. This is also why some people supplement electrolytes.

Do you have to work next week? I don't understand how people do this when they have to work and expend energy in any way.

Adrenaline levels increase, metabolism increases, and growth hormone levels go up 500%+. Stored fat provides the energy.

Why would fasting result in an immediate decrease in energy expenditure? The conditions that would naturally result in a fasted state would require activity in order to eat.

Because I know how I feel when I go very low cal or do very low carb diets. I have no energy whatsoever and getting through the work week is hell, even without exercise.

Very low calorie diets disturb the progression of changes that occur over the course of ~4 days of fasting. The metabolic effects aren't the same. Eating 500 calories per day for example would be detrimental. See Minnesota starvation experiment.

There are tons of women, neckbeards on reddit, and twinks on youtube who've done 10+ day fasts. People who won't touch a weight because it's hard and are otherwise addicted to cheetos, starbucks, and mcdonalds. Are you telling me, as someone who lifts and eats well, that there's no way you can accomplish the same? Come on, buddy.

Doesn't it depend on the level of body fat you start with too? I imagine a ten day fast for some 260lb neckbeard would be much easier than for someone who is already pretty lean and in shape.

It's terrific, right? So you know, I am in heaven."
