Will is still one of the biggest movie stars but has definitely toned it down because he's wanting to enjoy his personal life, and nearly losing his marriage really changed his outlook on life.

he just had his 'prime' / peak time and then it tapered off. Happens to a lot of actors, was just slightly earlier for him. Likely also by choice too. Not like he HAS to prove anything anymore and he's just doing his family thing

Comedic actors are pretty much typecast and have their big blowup and falloff. How many big comedy names are still going strong from that era? I mean, I know he wasn't a comedian actor, but being the funny/sassy black guy was sort of his schtick.
