Not only do they have to deal with kids, they have to deal with parents. Their job doesn't start when the kids show up and when they leave. They don't stop working in the summer, they are constantly going to meetings and trainings to keep up with standards.
If you went to school and were actually aware, you would have seen how hard your teachers had to work first hand. IF any of you had kids, you would see how hard they work first hand.
Teachers deserve wages akin to doctors, IMO.
I honestly don't blame people for not wanting to be teachers. No one respects them.
Bunch of slack jaw ****ing *******s in this thread and OP is the king. And yes, if you go to school for 7 years and get a PHD, you should make 6 figures.

There are no overpaid professions. Only jealous asshats.
Everyone has the opportunity. Take a look around, most useful positions get paid around that much or more, diploma or no. Cops, firefighters, trades people, etc.
I get paid nearly $30 an hour as a warehouse picker. If I ride the OT train I could pull $100k. Instead I go to school for a trade to be paid slightly more, but won't wear my body down in 10 years.

i went to school for teaching-
-worked at 3 schools in 3 years
-left field entirely, last year
i don't understand the not paid enough argument... before you sign you can see the pay scale- it goes up maybe 2% a year ( not performance dependent)
very glad i left

I'm assuming most miscers feel this way because they are FA with no kids, so they have no need for a teacher in their life. But for average people (not FA and browsing misc 24/7), they understand what a teacher has to deal with for 5 days/week.
Also fcuking lol at them getting "federal holidays", like most of you don't already. You basically get all the same benefits, but not having to deal with SJW kids all day and hope the parents don't go in on you right after.

And not all of us have chitty kids, some of us are good parents and teach our kids to behave. So no, it's their own fault for picking a career knowing pay and conditions then complaining about it.

Christmas break is your only argument, but many jobs have off times where you can be off during that.
Also lol at thanksgiving break. If you don’t have that off you’re cucked by your job boyo.
Unfortunately not all kids are good so teachers have to deal with it. Kids start chit in class, they text, don’t listen to teachers, goof off, etc. This also doesn’t help when a student does poorly that parents point the finger at teachers.
What happens if an employee disrespects you? How do you think a teacher has to deal with some angsty teen?
My cousin who just finished HS told me teachers have to use neutral pronouns. Imagine not and having a parent call in and complain.

ITT a bunch of people looking for the next thing to get mad at.
ITT a bunch of people who don't do a job, looking at only the glamorous parts of the job without knowledge of the harder portions of it.
ITT a bunch of people who don't deal with kids all day.
ITT a bunch of people who don't realize that infighting amongst the lower and middle classes about who deserves to get paid the way they do for the job they have is exactly what Big Money wants them to do.
After all, nobody's complaining ITT about the people whoreallydon't deserve to make the crazy salaries they do...
In essence, a bunch of short sighted humans ITT.

I knew multiple people from freshman year college that were still deciding had no idea what they wanted to do. Then they decided to be teachers because education was an easy enough major their dumbasses could handle and they knew it would ultimately lead to a job unlike that chit tier communications degree they were considering. They didnt major in education because they had a passion for teaching children or any of that chit they tell people when the unions are out there protesting and crying about how tax payers need to give them a raise.
Teachers are the bottom of the barrel of society, just slightly above womens studies and communications majors, they have like 5 iq points higher because they went for something that led to a job but thats about it. All of the cream of the crop went STEM.
There is no other group in the US as over paid that complains as much about pay as teachers.

It depends on the state and also the individual school or district. I had high school teachers making at or near 6 figures teaching 3 classes a day (half the time throwing on a movie for the class and not even teaching). This was 10+ years ago. In NC they don't make ****.

And some of them end up teaching summer school or going through training/other work related things. All the people that defend teacher's pay never really have any substance to their argument.
Show me numbers of why you think they're underpaid. And lets compare to other professional professions.
They are basically like arguing with liberals. All emotion and no logic. But muh kids!

Must teachers where I live make like 30-50K. Nothing spectacular about that even if they only work 9 months out the year. Even if they make 90K per year in California they are basically just lower middle class. The equivalent of making 50K per year elsewhere.

If a publuc high school PE teacher who teaches no other classes except that and maybe a health class on occasion makes a 40-50k /year salary and has no other responsibilities associated with the job, somewhere outside of major cities, then yes they've got a solid gig for what they do. A math, science, social studies teacher who does a good job in the exact same situation while making the same pay, is going to have to put way more time and effort into it, and it's not that great of a job then in terms of pay.
None of this mentions private school teachers. They make significantly less cash than public school teachers, have no pensions, and much crappier benefits overall. They generally only do that long-term over public schools because they like having more freedom to do their jobs in that setting than the rigid public school "standards".
If you think it's such a great job, then go get a degree for it and do it. Newsflash, you won't because it's not as amazing as you say it is, and you know that.

Being an elementary school teacher isn't hard at all. And to all those teachers who want a pat on the back claiming they take work home - you're grading a fuking spelling assignment or a picture. Get fukin real. I've taught university without a TA. That's some real painstaking grading.

Instead of talking chit, why don't you look salaries up by district? I'm a teacher and I get paid about 53,000 per year...before taxes. You think I can afford to go to Spain AND Cancun in the same summer, while having a wife and 2 kids?

In my experience, only a fraction of instructors/professors are not total idiots and/or SJWs.I can't comment as to whether teachers are paid appropriately (to be honest, I haven't looked into the numbers)... but I will say teachers are very under appreciated. I've got a ton of respect for the good ones, who put student development before all else.
Also, if you look dig a little deeper into the education and statistics of teachers you'll find that many of the dumbest people go through those programs. Their programs also tend to have the highest, if not the highest, average GPA. I assure you it's not because they're a bunch talented, over-achievers. I'm not saying all teachers are stupid; there are a lot of good ones, but on average, they're typically bottom-of-the-barrel.
I think 'most' teachers are adequately compensated for the (typically) trash job they do. They need to up their game if they want to be considered more valuable.

The other dude did his calculations, showing that school starts at 8:30 - 3:30. Lol. My daily duty station starts at 7:45 and I leave school at 4:30. No teacher works for 7 hrs that I know of. And I visited one of my students families today. You know why? Because we're not just educators. We actually care about these students. I also ran a basketball team for my elementary school, 1 game a week with a practice session on a different day. You think I got paid for that? It's the same for any of it. History teacher. Brb watch kids history all day.
Btw, I'm a PE teacher, not a "gym" teacher.
