Judge convicts parents after baby dies from Vegan diet

This week Belgian judge Mieke Butstraen sentenced two parents to a suspended six-month jail sentence over the death of their seven-month-old baby Lucas. The couple owned a health food store in Beveren and fed the child vegetable milk made of "oak, buckwheat, rice, and quinoa," according to the BBC. He died weighing nine pounds, which is at least seven pounds underweight according to CDC numbers, and had organs that shrunk to half their normal size.

The conviction comes after a series of cases that put vegan parenting in international headlines. After his ex-wife forced their child to eat vegetarian, a father took her to an Italian court in May 2015. Two other Italian parents lost custody of their 14-month old last June over their child's vegan diet. Fatebenfratelli Hospital's doctors believed the baby lacked fundamental nutrients, worsening his unrelated congenital heart condition, but the couple refused to follow doctors' orders and diversify his food.
Experts believe it's difficult to feed an infant a balanced vegan diet. "It is possible to feed a baby a vegan diet, but you need to plan carefully to ensure the baby is getting enough nutrients of concern," the British Nutrition Foundation's Dr. Lucy Chambers previously told Broadly. "The risks of nutrient deficiencies are much higher [on a vegan diet]. It is possible to feed a baby a healthy, balanced diet that is also vegan, but you need to be very well informed."

The latest veggie parents' defense attorney, Karine Van Meirvenne, argued that the family's story was more complicated. The mother failed to lactate, but when offered milk formula, they said the baby declined, so they presumed he was lactose or gluten intolerant.
CBS News reported that the father, identified as Peter S during the case, offered a contradictory statement in court: "We never went with Lucas to a doctor because we never noticed anything unusual." Prosecutors allege that the couple traveled across the country to see a homeopathic specialist, a.k.a. a natural doctor, and neither a social worker nor a regular doctor had ever seen Lucas.

Lawmakers have increasingly grown wary of parents seeking alternative health care for children; California legislators battled conspiratorial anti-vaxxers when they passed a law revoking religious and personal exemptions for vaccinations in 2015. Most parents have good intentions for their kids. Lucas's mother, Sandrina V, insisted to the court, "Sometimes he gained a little weight, sometimes he lost a little. We never wished for the death of our son."
Some worry that these convictions are indicative of a terrifying future of policing every aspect of parenting, especially at a time when women are being imprisoned for miscarrying. But the Belgian judge gave a stark reminder that whatever a parents' intentions, they are ultimately responsible for their child's health and wellbeing.
"The [death was the] result of the systematic offer of food which was not suitable," he argued. "His health was seriously impeded, and he eventually died."

The ideal human diet doesn't give a CHIT about ethics. Many other animal's diets don't either.
Studies can say whatever they want to say. A vegan by definition is an extremely health conscious individual, to compare them to 'everybody else' does not control for multiple other factors. If it were so obviously terrible for us and out of place in our diet, allhumans would have stopped eating meat thousands of years ago.

99% of scientists agree that eating less meat will combat the climate change (and is healthier too) but for some reason people here just ignore them. Are people here just dumb? They would rather believe a Youtube video instead of actual scientists who ALL agree on the same thing.

Because these "scientific studies" aren't worth the paper their written on and everyone knows it whether consciously or subconsciously, the whole game is controlled, the elites who give the money want their agenda pushed only offer "$$$$ GRANTS" to scientists and universities who give them the results they want. Otherwise they get no money and starve to death because they cant feed their families.
Universities are also political hot beds of left wing activism so coming up with anything but "climate change is real" is akin to nazism.
Use your brain for fuk sake OP.

IDK.
Personally don't have any beef with "less meat crew" or "responsible humane meat" crew.
Growing crops with a bunch of water, fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides to raise cattle is awfully inefficient as far as energy input to energy (calories) output. Then we have a lot of waste above that too. So, yeah, reducing your consumption of those products is completely reasonable.
OTOH a lot of land isn't suited for crops, but is good for grazing herds. Raising food animals on that land makes sense. Hunting and trapping are kind of the same thing as long as good wildlife management is in force.

You can always spot the liberal arts rejects who claim to love "science" when they couldnt hack it in STEM but are just regurgitating MSM and liberal media talking points. Research is completely controlled by the funding. If it is not an idea the liberal colleges want, it doesnt get funding.

Are people here just dumb? They would rather believe a Youtube video instead of actual scientists who ALL agree on the same thing.
Scientist also say you are an omnivore with canine teeth made for ripping apart the flesh of other animals. But keep selectively choosing bits and pieces of "science" for political reasons and presenting it as an apolitical universal truth.

1. Meat is delicious
2. Protein
3. Generations prior (your grandparents for instance) live/lived into their 70's, 80's, beyond eating meat. Lol if you truly feel like the off chance of adding 5-10 years means that much.
4. Genetic makeup will generally determine your lifespan regardless
5. Life is too fukkin short to not enjoy yourself, and that goes for ANYTHING.

And also the biggest cause of climate change is eating meat.
Oh and not mention the suffering and torture of animals every second of the day because of it.
You would have to be a real f*cking retard to keep eating meat.

This 44 year old woman has eaten predominately nothing but Ribeye steaks for the last 19 years...
Charlene Andersen, Age 44

(snip from article)
The fish and oil diet was the first diet I can remember being the first try at a zero carb diet. It relieved a lot of my symptoms, but not all (still had amenhorrea, edema, trichotillomania, acne, eczema and excess weight). We probably spent about a year experimenting beginning with the fish and oil diet, quickly switching to free range eggs and poultry, and occasional lamb and beef.

Charlene's journals tracking every reaction to every meal
As SOON as I switched to animal fat as my fat source instead of “healthy” oils, I ovulated and had a period two weeks later. I couldn’t believe it!!! Why in the WORLD didn’t someone tell me years ago about the importance of animal fat?!?
I’ve been more regular since then than I ever was as a young teenager. I’ve had two healthy boys (no complications for me; home births too; mid-wife with Charlie and unassisted with George)!

Charlene before carnivore, age 25

Charlene after 19 years of carnivore, age 44, enjoying the sun.
