That's the whole point. He'll be the Christmas present of the judge to the jail.
A few handsome boys go to jail before Christmas every year.

First, people should apply some critical thinking and get this 10 years in prison nonsense out of their minds. ‘Faces up to 10 years in prison’ is journalist click bait. It means the maximum penalty for the alleged crime is 10 years, not that he’s going to do 10 years. I doubt he’s going to prison at all, nor should he, though he definitely needs some psychiatric evaluation.

Second, the narrative that ‘she’s trying to send him to prison for 10years’ is nonsense. That’s not how the criminal justice system works. That’s not how anything works. She went to the cops because some creepy weird older guy has been stalking her and grabbing onto her while she’s out minding her own business. It’s not up to her as to what happens next, she merely reported what happened, and rightly so.

Exactly this ^^^

I don't think miscer read the article, dude on 2 different occasions followed her, and touched her body. The first time she told him "Stop" and pulled her arm away... Then the dude followed her again as she was walking home, and grabbed her by the waist for 3 to 5 seconds, whilst smirking.

That is phuckin weird behaviour.

If someone did that to my cousin, I'm sure her brother would beat the chit out of him. I'm pretty sure any miscer would want to do the same... However, I'm guessing that most miscers just read the Thread headline, and didn't bother to read about the details.

I'm not saying it warrants 10 years in prison, but that is some serious red flag behaviour.

"Noting both approaches took place in ‘isolated areas’, she added: ‘An attempt to make a friendship with anyone surely starts with a hello or a wave.’"

Misc...

The dude approached her whilst she was walking home alone, on 2 different occasions!

The first time grabbed her arm... The first time she told him "Stop", and she move away from him and walked away.

The next month he tried to do the same chit, only this time he grabbed her by the waist, and smirked at her (he said he 'smiled at her')...

That is some creepy as chit!

Good post... I thought it was common knowledge that 'facing 10 years' is usually never the case, they like to post the maximum possible sentence.

Also like you point out, here in the UK, CPS (The crown prosecution service) can prosecute whether that victims presses charges themselves or not.

I’m confused... was this not a one time thing?

And would it not be up to the chick to press charges? I don’t see how the authorities could come up with a possible sentence of ANY jail time based on the fact that he didn’t harm her physically at all.

No, the crown prosecution service can press charges without the victim's consent.

I believe it's due to the (very real threat) of victim intimidation... Like a case of domestic violence... Regardless of if the victims presses charges, if eyewitnesses report seeing a vcitim getting battered by their partner, and the police turn up and see the physical evidence of it, they will prosecute... Even if the victim doesn't do it.

Yup, I allowed myself to be bamboozled by the clickbait.

If anything, this article shows me how many young men are seriously lacking in social skills and self awareness. Before any type of action is taken, this dude needs a psyche evaluation so they can figure out his state of mind.

I don't know how you've come to that conclusion.

A guy who waits a month apart to follow her into a secluded area to grab her - after she told him to stop and walked away from him the first time - is considered creep behaviour to most people.

Do you honestly not see how it was prudent for her to go to the police, after the guy grabbed her twice in a secluded spot, as she walked away from school.

The first time she literally told him "Stop" and walked away from him... Then the dude went back a month later, and grabbed her even more intimately.

That wouldn't ring any alarm bells to you?! The dude going back a month later, after she clearly showed she wasn't interested in his grabbin chicks approach?

You wouldn't advise a female family member to report the guy to the police?

Dude... If anything like that every happens to a female family member or friend that you know, insist that they go to the police station... Anyone who ignores that behavior is being extremely foolish. He clearly ways not taking "Stop" and walking way from her after he grabber her arm, as a signal to stay the phuck away from her...

Literally anyone but the severely mentally ill, or sociopaths would ignore that... And go find her a month later, and grab her by the waist and block her path...

How the phuck is that not red flag behaviour to you?!

LOL, dude was a shy incel trying to make a friend. brb calling him a sociopath
"Griffiths, who had been volunteering at a Barnado's charity shop, told the hearing: 'My intention was to make a friend. All my friends had left so I was lonely I just wanted to speak to someone.

'She was walking towards me and I recognised her and I knew that she was a student at the school, I didn't say anything but I really wanted to - the words just didn't come out. I touched her but I believed that it was the arm I was touching.

'I smiled at her, I was just trying to be friendly. I tried to get her attention and she ignored me. Touching someone's arm to get their attention I would have thought was normal. I was looking for a friend.'
What a monster! He volunteers at a charity shop and dared to awkwardly speak with someone from school. Lock him up

I said that he's either severely mentally ill, or a sociopath. You literally just quoted that.

Why do you believe the story he's telling you about his motivation? He admitted to the actions (grabbing her twice in a secluded area, a month apart)?
What a monster! He volunteers at a charity shop and dared to awkwardly speak with someone from school. Lock him up
If someone ever grabs a female family member or friend, on 2 separate occasions when they are in a secluded space, please insist that they report them to the police.

That is ominous behaviour.

Just because he volunteered at a charity shop does not automatically mean that his explanation of his motives is true...

Priests have raped and molested kids.

Jimmy Saville used to raise money for charities, and arrange for kids to do their lifelong dream on a famous TV show.

Ted Bundy was a volunteer at a suicide hotline.

Him volunteering is pretty meaningless, when it comes to assessing his character IMO.

I can’t fault anything that you’ve written here, but I do think the boy got incredibly unlucky with the girl he picked...

Another girl might have only escalated it to the police if it was repeated 3 times or more.
Another girl might have aggressively told him to fuk off and not let it bother her.
Another girl might have been friendly, despite his awkwardness, and said, “hi, erm... you’re kind of weird”, and then attempted to get to know him.
Another girl might have asked her parents to speak to the boy instead of the police.
Another girl might have dealt with it directly and said, “look, I don’t appreciate you making advances like this. Please leave me alone and don’t bother me again”.
Another girl might have asked his name and then befriended him on ******** and started a life long friendship.
Another girl might have taken him home and pity fuked him.

You see what i’m getting at here? The situation coulda’ gone down a fuk ton of different ways. Similar incidents have likely happened before and amounted to absolutely nothing owing to being handled differently, but on this occasion it gets handled in such a way that it escalates to the level of police involvement and the boy subsequently gets nationally shamed and is looking at a criminal sentence.

The girls actions may have been prudent, but I do believe she could have handled the situation better, and I think many miscers are rustled because they feel the same.

Having said all of that, another possibility is that the girls parents have largely orchestrated how it’s panned out, which would not surprise me in the slightest.

let me just say i dont really condone the behavior. i think it is a tad bit weird; however, i wasn't there, so im trying to piece things together. could it have been very creepy? yes. could he have bumped into her and grabbed by the waist and arm?yes. point is i wasn't there to judge the interaction so only have what others say about it. the "was trying to make friends" thing seems like a nice cover up. it does make me think that he's guilty given that only a retard would seem to think that would make him friends; HOWEVER, aforementioned point still stands

i worked at a restaurant. there was this old man that was a principal or something at a school. he'd always ask me questions. one time i was making a salad at the salad bar and he came up behind me and grabbed my waist. was weird as fuk. but more specifically because my back was turned to him

i dont know for 100% certain but i always thought he was gay and it seemed like that confirmed it. i never reported it or anything though. and i can certainly tell you that it didn't scar me in any whatsoever

i think... the problem here is the blown out of proportion supposed (i say supposed because he hasn't been convicted) punishment for the crime

a crime that while weird is seemingly innocuous, as in.. he didn't rape her

im also unsure as to the research that shows grabbing an arm leads to rape

i think all of these things are contributing to the backlash along with not liking the idea of touching someone causing them legal trouble

The point is, she reported it to the police, because following women into remote areas on 2 separate occasions a grabbing them, is very ominious behaviour. The behaviour literally escalated, even after she made it clear the first time that she wasn't interested and literally told him to stop.

She reported it to the police (and rightly so), and CPS decided to prosecute.

CPS can prosecute without victims consent, and journalists decided to nationally shame the kid.
The girls actions may have been prudent, but I do believe she could have handled the situation better, and I think many miscers are rustled because they feel the same.
She already literally said out loud "Stop" and pulled away from him the first time that he tried it, and she didn't report him, she thought was the end of that. Then he weirdo was even more brazen a second time, and grabbed her by the waist and blocked her path. We're not talking about a situation where some idiot is doing that on a night out, in the middle of busy street filled with people headed to nightclubs and a bar... He did this on 2 seperate occasions as she was walking home alone, by a railway track.

She was clearly assertive the first time with him, and then he still came back for round 2... Thinking she should have done anything but go to the police after the second time, IMO is asking the girl to put herself in unnecessary danger.

I don't think the kid is unlucky, I think he's either severely mentally ill, or a sociopath.

Miscers honestly seem to put women in a double bind.

Let's say the guy saw her a 3rd time in a secluded area, and realized that by then she had no assertiveness and wasn't going to tell anyone what he had been doing, and then sexually assualted her. Then the case goes to court, I would honestly bet money that the misc would go"LOL, phuckin girl, why didn't she go to the police the second time he grabbed her in a secluded place? Clearly the guy was a weirdo!"

However, she went to the police, and they are condemning her for simply protecting herself as a 17 year old girl, against a 19 year old weirdo.

Like I said, I know that if any of my cousins had someone do that to them, their brothers would find the guy and beat the chit out of him, they would not be as lasseiz faire as the misc about a dude grabbing their sister, on two separate occasions in a secluded area.

We didn't vote anyone in, we have unelected judges and common law.

This means if a judge decides something it essentially sets a precedent and then becomes law.

Brah, i'll level with you. If the dude was a 205 lbs 45 year old greasy lookin' bloke, no one in this thread would be debating the outcome. Open and shut case. In fact, we wouldn't even be talking about it because it wouldn't have made the news.

But it did make the news and is hotly debated because of the following:

1) He's a 19 year old kid.
2) He went to the same same school as the girl. They were peers ffs, albeit in different years. He even said that's where he knew the girl from.
3) He's about as threatening looking as a teletubby (granted, just because he doesn't LOOK threatening doesn't mean he ISN'T threatening, and his actions could certainly be perceived that way - more on this in the following point)
4) Hetouchedthe girl. Re-read the article and you will notice the words "touch" or "touched" are used in EVERY statement. NOT "grabbed" (which is actually the wordyouused in your description above; don't think I didn't notice that) or "held" or any word that implies a greater degree of physical aggression or threat. Touching is usually considered a fairly innocuous action. Even the prolonged physical contact that occured in the second incident has been described as a touch. A prolonged touch is pretty fukin' weird I will admit, but aggressive? I'm not so certain...
I personally think this "touch" issue is quite an important detail that has been overlooked, and you yourself have either deliberately or unconciously wrote "grabbed", which might be telling of some sort of bias.

As they say, context is everything, and this whole debate has come about because the contextual details above muddy the waters a fair bit.

I am personally incredibly on the fence about the whole thing. One minute I'm thinking it looks pretty bad, and the next minute i'm thinking "yea, but...".

I think that's moreso an example of a post-hoc justification (which we all tend to do tbh) than miscers putting women in a double bind.

Woah...now that i think about it ive had the exact crime happen to me. Not just the old guy with the waist thing

Girl i hardly knew grazed my arm sexually..

Lmao at all the ****s defending the girl acting like a victim. I also guess the girl that did it to me went on to be a rapist too.

She wasnt that hot either, she was ok. 6, maybe a 7 if you just count the body. Completely unprovoked, didnt ask for it.

I feel bad for the guy...I had a student with autism who was very much into getting a girlfriend but didn't have the social skills or knowledge to properly engage with a girl. He met a girl in college whom he really liked but he just didn't know how to approach her properly. So he started to follow her everywhere she went and he kept trying to talk to her and saying how beautiful she looks etc etc. She didn't feel the same way about him and complained that he was "sexually" harassing her and now the poor guy's got in trouble with the law.

I don't what it was like in your school, but in my school people who are 3 years below you in school, are 'peers' in the loosest sense. People tend not to socialize at all with people who were 3 years - aka grades to any Americans reading - below them.

It's not like they were friends, or even acquaintances.

I think it is seriously misleading to bring up the fact that they went to the same same school.

OK touched... The point is that it was done on 2 separate occasions in a secluded place.

Also, she's 17 year old girl. I'm trained Muay Thai/Martial arts with girls, (I've even been kicked full force by one who I pissed off, who had been training longer than me)...

They are considerably weaker than us
, and it takes a very high skill level for them in relation to the man to compensate for that.

You might not find him threatening, but any 17 year girl who hasn't been brainwashed, will innately know that the 19 year old could overpower her whenever he wanted - and believe, he could), combined with him the fact that he touched her - and blocked her path on the second occasion - in a secluded spot.

He's not that threatening to you, probably because you're not a 17 year old girl. You're a grown man.

Also, you seem to be empathizing with the guy a lot, but not much with the girl...

Maybe she's had a past experience of child abuse or sexual assault?

Maybe she's been in frightening situations in the past with men?

Again... Just because he doesn't look threatening to you doesn't mean that he isn't threatening to the girl. We can make fun of her for being so freaked out, but we simply don't what she as been through... The misc (and yourself it seems) pretty much seem to be only empathizing with the guy.

If that guy wanted to start beating the living chit out of the girl, I promise you that she wouldn't stand a chance. He's a 19 year old kid, at the peak of testosterone.

To quote the article again...

"She said she encountered Griffiths a second time: 'He suddenly moved to walk in front of me, looked me straight in the eye, touched me on my side and walked off.

'It was quite a while - three to five seconds. He smirked at me, he didn't stop he just touched me and walked off and I broke down crying - it was quite traumatic."

"Magistrates told Griffiths: 'The complainant's evidence was very clear, logical and without embellishment. We can think of no motivation for you to touch the victim other than sexual.

'Had she not taken evasive action the assault was likely to have been even more serious. The first assault can be recognised as opportunistichowever there is more evidence of premeditation in the second.'"
If this kid is the next Elliot Rodgers, then everyone is a god damn hero and all the right decisions have been made. But if this is just one big awkward misunderstanding and all that the kid needed was a little help, then everyone has played a role in further damaging a psychologically and socially messed up kid.
I agree.

Hopefully, he had a psych evaluation before they went ahead.

IMO the prudent thing for the police to have done is arrest him, question him and heard his side of the story (that he's just a highly anxious man), and then get him assessed before going ahead with pressing charges.

Either way, I believe she did the right thing, by protecting herself. She was likely encouraged by her parents, who did the right thing by trying to protect their daughters.

One of the M.O.'s of violent criminals, and bullies, is to 'test the waters'... Meaning they will on do a few 'tests' of a person's non verbal response to them violating boundaries, and if they seem like they are emotionally fragile, they are an easy target.

Comedian Patrice O Neal spoke about being robbed at gun point growing up, and said that later he realized that the robber had tested him without him knowing. First the dude shoulder barge him, and Patrice just shook his head, and ignored it, and then the guy began walking behind him verbally abusing him, and Patrice said and did nothing... Then the guy pulled out a gun and robbed him. He later said that taught him to be wary of people seem to make 'minor' invasions of boundaries, because they could be testing if you will stand up to them.
