Wow, I feel so bad for Ross Ulbricht (Silk Road founder)

Currently rotting in maximum security prison with no chance of parole and no hope in life. There were powerful forces at play that wanted to destroy him, and they were successful.

I have been looking at the court case and a few documentaries on it over the last few days and I was shocked at how one-sided it was. The judge refused to allow testimony about the two crooked cops who had admin privileges on the site and stole bitcoins/altered the evidence. The two cops were only charged 7 weeks after Ross' trial finished.

Refused to allow evidence that someone logged into Ross' account after he was in jail, proving there were multiple Dread Pirate Roberts operating the account.

That judge Katharine Roberts is just as evil as any murderer, she has ruined this dude's life.

Feel free to add your signature to the change.org website so he can hopefully get a pardon or have his case looked at again.

What a cruel twist of fate for this poor brother.

He knew the associated risks at every step he took and still decided to roll the dice. There's nothing to feel bad about. Keep in mind that whatever documentary you happen to stumble upon, they're never completely objective.

I feel more sorry for true innocent people locked up

Nothing new where the justice system manipulates the court in their favor

Well this is true that you will never get objective info, but I have looked at both sides of the argument and there are facts there which aren't debated (i.e. Carl Force was found guilty and got 7 years jail and the other cop got 6.5 years).

Seems so wrong in my opinion that you can go to jail forever when no victims were named at trial. I know a guy online that is dying from a brain tumour, and I think I would prefer that fate over jail for life. Murderers I can understand, but this guy seems like a really good dude (currently following his twitter account).

He provided a platform for people to sell drugs which probably lead to some OD's and definitely less to lots of misery. No sympathy here if you do the crime you may have to do the time.

Yeah it's absolutely bullsh*t. Sure, it's expected that he dosometime in jail, but such a harsh sentence compared to legitimate child rapists, murderers etc is crap.

Just LOL that he gets a harsher sentence than El Chapo. Fuk this gay earth

That's like saying tobacco companies should be help responsible for when retards get cancer. They had an option and they chose drugs.

With that said, guy knew what he was doing and got lazy.

Crazy to think he may have never been caught if he just hadn't used the same alias "altoid" when he first made the site and then using it again to ask for programming advice and giving his name.
Not wise on his part, smart of him to change his alias before the site became popular but there's always a trail. Google has bots crawling the web taking screenshots everyday from every date. Even if you did manage to delete the post/edit your site's content the history of the content may still be there on a server somewhere out of your reach/control. Stay safe dark netters.

i haven't watched the docos but if his platform had murder-for-hire + he put bounties on people, then he deserves his sentence.

Couldn't care less about the drug stuff.

I felt sorry for him until I read he tried to get someone killed. He clearly transitioned from Internet nerd who simply provided a platform for people to buy drugs, to drug lord who tries to make his threats disappear. The taste of power always tips them over the edge in the end.

He got more time and a harsher sentence than murders, child rapists, ect ect. For providing a platform that allowed for the free and consensual trade of goods between people. Goods that will always be traded, will always have a demand and will always have a supply. He provided this platform in a way that made it MUCH safer than procuring these goods on the streets for numerous reasons.

Although I heard he ordered a hit on someone at one point so maybe he should be locked up lol

That was all complete BS actually...the charges were dropped.

It all came about because Carl Mark Force (crooked cop who was working the case) got admin access to Silk Road, logged in as DPR and concocted this elaborate story of murder-for-hire, all completely made up. The alleged 'victim' is on a doco confirming as much. The police leaked this story to the media before the trial in order to turn public opinion against him, and then dropped the charges later after he was found guilty.

This. I'm not saying much about the particulars of this case because - honestly - I don't think we will ever really know the truth of his personal responsibility here. Crypto is a nasty business in general with lots of government (egads!) intervention, compliance out the window, fraud and hacking...

But, yeah it seems like the system wants to make an example out of him. Either way, his movements in this business sector pretty much by definition make him a POS.

If an adult wants to buy and do drugs, they should. If they OD, that's on them.

Wasn't that long ago an old friend of mine from grade school and junior high was on the news. Apparently his dad was wrongly convicted and sentenced to prison for 25+ years on murder. Turns out the prosecutor in the case withheld evidence and did all kinds of other fukery.

Then there is the Snowden stuff that was 100% lies at the beginning. I remember hearing the news at the time of the leak ... and across all the fake media station it was about this low level knows nothing computer guy leaked info. Being a tech person myself my bullchit radar immediately went off on all the crap the MSM was spewing. Then they tried to offer him a deal to come back to the USA and plead his case ... BUT ... behind closed doors. Snowden: "Fair trial.... riiiiiiiight".

Then you hear all the divorce court fkery.

My brother and his wife had to deal with all kinds of fkery with the state during an adoption thing.

The down low is ... if you get on the wrong side of the government or another entity with almost unlimited power/money ... good luck getting a fair shake. I don't remember all the details of the Ulbricht case any more, but i do recall thinking at the time (when i did) that he was getting scapegoated.

So if I have a garage sale and some dude sells another guy some heroine there, and the purchaser overdoses, should I expect jail time since I provided a venue?

Feel super bad for the guy. Where he ****ed up was trying to obtain and "paying for" a few murders. He had "hired a hitman" or attempted to a few times. That's where he ****ed up. I don't think they would have got him put away for life if it wasn't for the planned/attempted planned hits.

he was used to try and make an example out of for that type of thing , he contracted no murders, the deaa marco pollo unit had one agent caught fied and brought up on charges for stealing bitcoins from the site and one secret service agent caught stealing coins and lying about evidence, this was while the investigation was still on going but this was not allowed to be brought into his trial

the 2nd SR market owner got caught too and he only got ten years.

those of you arounf back then remember MT gox and its exit scam of over 500 million in bitcoins at the same time the arrest occured, no way russ ran this alone, it would have been impossible, safe bet the mt gox owner was involved

these sites are a dime a dozen now. i dont encourage them or drug use but if harm reduction and safty is the goal they make things safer if you want to live the life of a pathetic drug addict.

point being stay away from anything drug related unless you want your life in ruin. cause thats the one and only destination that road takes you to

Came in to post this. First, Casefiles is fuarkin awesome. Second, the series they did on Silk Road is beyond fascinating, and should absolutely infuriate anyone who believes in our legal system considering his punishment.

Also, this confirms that you dont fukk with the IRS. They got Capone, and then they got Ulbricht. People that were untouchable...
