There is a 4th thing that could happen, and has happened for decades around the world...

Amazon pays below livable wages, and so do all other mega corporations, because there is no minimum wage or social safety net. So (like what happens in other countries) multiple members of the extended family work, being paid below livable wages, and they pool their money in order to subsist.

Yeah, and they'll be paid less for the work. (e.g. Chile.)

It’s obviously not right they live like that ANYWHERE.

I haven’t argued against the minimum wage because pragmatically I think it has worked, it’s the mark of a civilised society. It’s possible to have employment laws and not agree with giving what amounts to billion dollar tax breaks to companies that don’t remotely need them. There’s no moral conundrum there which I think is what you’re driving at.

I will first admit that Im a dirty capitalist BUT we do have a problem. Trickle down economics have been taken over by trickle out economics. The money/opportunity that used to flow down to the middle class and build a strong base for our economy is being sent to third world countries. The US is building THEIR strong base and supporting their economies instead of its own. The 1% is still making their cut but the cheese that used to fall off of the tables and into the middle classes mouth has stopped.

Im fairly high up in a very large global company (no-ebrag). Its a good company but I'm constantly involved in discussions/strategies that push work out of America and into third world countries. It isnt an evil major corporation that is trying to hoard money (like many people believe). The executive leadership is simply trying to stay competitive in a tight global economy in an industry with tight margins.

The government needs to take a long look at external Visas and make an in-depth review of how tarrifs and trade deals can handle the situation. I typically believe in letting the free market flow but the market isnt free at this point. Its a manipulated market that US companies are forced to participate in...

In the spirit of when questioning is OK, do you not see how this is exactly something a brainwashed NPC would say? Being triggered someone would question their viewpoints and requesting they explain their reasoning.

People will write a couple of paragraphs, and he posts literallyone linesarcastic questions in response.

Other posters mix actual arguments in with sarcasm. IMO that is a significant difference.

I'm honestly baffled by why you find him reasonable... But OK... I don't think this is going to go anywhere.
I suppose from his stance on a couple of issues that most R&Pers are pretty far right. Perhaps I should have said I find his views reasonable. His posting style, I don't know enough about him.

You and I generally see eye to eye on most things, so I'm not too bothered here.

Just be happy within yourself and don't worry about what other people have or don't have. Life is more than materialism. I have gone from minimum wage to a upper management with hard work, dependability, and good judgement. I have enough to have a comfortable life, don't need more than I have, don't care what others have.
Freedom of speech is a principle pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved and tyranny is erected on its ruins.

That's wasn't what I was driving at, but I don't think that it's practical.

Fair enough that you don't want to drop the minimum wage, but you want to drop welfare programs.
It’s possible to have employment laws and not agree with giving what amounts to billion dollar tax breaks to companies that don’t remotely need them. There’s no moral conundrum there which I think is what you’re driving at.
If I understand your position better then, are you saying that you want the minimum wage to be raised to a point where corporations pay the burden, instead of the public?

If that is correct, then I mistook your position for a free market capitalist one... Sorry, if that is the case.
Automation? We’ve heard that since the Luddites. We’re nowhere near it.

In a free market interest rates and money supply are determined by supply and demand. Market forces. Not an omnipotent group of government sanctioned bankers. That is a socialist economic and monetary system.

Create money out of thin air, pump it into asset markets [ including the housing market ] and enrich those who own those assets at the expense of those who dont. This is centralized, command and control manipulation from the top down. This is socialism. It has absolutely no relation to a free market.

Are you honestly claiming that Milton Friedman was a socialist? (I'm confused because you initially describe him as a monetarist, but then you basically state that any system that as a central control of the money supply is socialist.)

Can you please just answer that.

Bingo. It is really interesting to see people vehemently argue we need the Fed and central planning while simultaneously argue trickle down economics should be abolished. I can't think of a bigger trickle down economics program than the money printing monetary system we have now.

Low interest rates causes those with capital to look for other/better ROI's, which is typically income producing assets. This in turn, drives up the assumed value of those assets. In other words, the assets of the 1% are enjoying an asset bubble onpaper.

Its pretty lulzy when people try to blame it on the "dems" or "repubs".

Theyre all in it for themselves, not the people. The rot is too deep for 1 politician to solve, they will either get blackmailed or killed.

Dems and repubs are just different sides of the same coin, a coin held by....

Housing is more expensive because it is bigger. The materials cost more. And it costs more to meet the current building safety standards and regulations set forth by the government than the standards laid out 40 years ago. It's more expensive because you are getting a much larger product built to more exacting standards.

Anecdotal example - I bought my house from my dad (at a fair market price) for approximately 50% more than what he paid for it 25 years prior. If you look at wages for my current job vs what I would have been making for the same job then, I make approximately 2× more per hour. I could have gone and bought a newer house with an extra 700-1,000 square feet, instead I chose to buy an older home that was actually in my budget. Too many people nowadays buy more than they need and then whine about it costing too much. Not to mention the amenities inside the home. We are basically living in future world compared to even 20 years ago with regards to in home electronics/appliances/etc, and people on the lower end of the income scale typically have far more gadgets and tech than equivalent earners of the past.

Housing is a scam, the subprime crisis never ended.

The housing market will continue to grow and pop, each time those with money gobble up more cheap properties, sell for higher, rinse and repeat.

Do I get my money back from the sub prime crisis in 2009 then? (about 3/4 trillion gbp£ in the uk)?

I'm making the wider point that when wealth gets extremely concentrated into a few hands, it subverts the political process. See Microsoft anti trust rulings etc

I can’t answer your first question, I don’t know what happened in the UK during that time, just the US.

So what have you done about it? Have you stopped using their goods and services? Have you provided alternatives to other?

Again, why should they be punished for providing goods and services that you willingly bought and paid for, then paid taxes on?

The money is better invested in businesses, which rises the tide for all. Imagine how wasteful most people would be, if all that money was re-distributed.

That said, there is clearly some problems in America where the homeless and ill, sometimes through pure misfortune, end up desolate on the streets while others live in luxury.

If people don’t want the 1% to exist, stop giving them your money.
Why don't we ask Bill Gates what he'd like done?

Bill Gates: Let's increase taxes on all the wealthy

Random bootlicker on the internet: No Bill Gates earned his money he should keep all of it, his ******* also tastes so goddamn good

That's great that Bill Gates, one of the greatest philanthropists of all time, thinks we should tax the rich more

I'm sure not all the rich agree with him

Did we come up with any better ideas today on this? Someone said increase the minimum wage, even though only like 5% of workers actually only earn minimum wage so that won't do much. Any other great ideas? Just take all the money away from the rich and give to the govment?

What's stopping Bill Gates from donating his money to the government again?
