Cops were engaged in a deadly threat, fight or flight moment and training kicks in which is getting to cover and engaging the immediate threat. They were not actively trying to use the civillians for cover. People like you have no clue what this entails

holy chit, the amount of mental gymnastics you do to defend cops would get you the Gold medal against the prepubescent Chinese women in every event at the Olympics.

Thats what gets me, how come those cops weren't yanking those people out of their cars instead of hiding behind them using the pedestrians in the cars as human shields.

You guys need to stop with this “engine block” argument. Do you think the criminals are taking aim at only the front of the car where the cop is? No, they would shoot blindly in the direction of the officer which includes the entire car with civilians inside. The common sense fact is that the cops had a lapse of judgement by using these occupied vehicles as shields.

Google tunnel vision and fight or flight and how it relates to police using deadly force. Then maybe you will understand. Cops probably didnt even realize where they were. Training kicked in and all they focused on whlas the shooters and ending the treat. Thats how they are trained and thats a natural human reaction. Ive been in a shooting and i didnt remember half of what happened after

ill give you that it was a chitty situation, but to claim they weren't using bystanders for cover just takes any validity out of your argument. as absurd as someone saying "calm down i'm not lighting you on fire, i'm just lighting the clothes you are wearing"

Probably discharged for gross negligence and incompetence.

Most likely he was subpoenaed by a prosecutor and this is the kind of testimony he gave under oath.

they need to be better equipped. idk much about combat equipment but isn't there like tear gas or sleep gas they could have used instead of using bullets around a mass of civillians

I'm usually a big supporter of the police - but this was beyond terrible.

You can't lay waste to a van with a hostage inside, while surrounded by civilians.....one of whom was killed, and I'm sure after the bullet is pulled from the civilian, it will be confirmed as police, along with the hostage.

I don't care how you slice it, that's a disaster, and unacceptable levels of recklessness and endangerment to the general population.

I don't think any of those officers had bad intensions, but they were not prepared for that situation, and that goes back to training. You can't mag dump with civilians everywhere and hostages......no criminal charges, but demotions for sure.

it should be criminal charges, i doubt the dead civilians were warned that there would be open fire beforehand

Yes because every scenario is exactly the same... There was no hostage in that video and it doesnt say how long swat had to react or the events leading up to it. You cant take 1 success and apply it universally across the board

in the main video they didn't show any regard for preservation of life of the hostage soo,

its miami dade, so they should have a swat team that can roll out as qrf. highway chases are common enough that there should be SOP's in place for how to handle them, opposed to the gongshow that was witnessed

Literally this. People don't understand.. THERE SOP'S FOR THINGS LIKE THIS, and I'd be willing to bet that what we saw was not anywhere near what was policy.

I work in a job that deals with lots of lives as well, and although true every emergency is different.. There STILL IS AN SOP IN PLACE for you to adhere to and base your judgements off that.

No they didn't because they were forced to engage multiple active shooters using the hostage for cover and its tragic but its not like they could sit back and do nothing. The SOP is to engage in this situation
