What a loser. He should have tried to rap or spend his youth doing fun pointless things. He has no good memories to fall back on.

I was gonna list a bunch of math and physics books, but honestly, check out Alberts' Molecular Biology of the Cell. That book is a biology book, and it is all self contained knowledge. You only need a very basic understanding of chemistry, and even that is reviewed. It will give you a huge appreciation for life and the intricate "machinery" of cells. It also is an easy read. It's a big book, but worth reading. You will wish someone had told you about these things before. It will completely change your perspective on life.

Books are a really inefficient way of getting information that’s why podcasts are becoming so popular. You can go about your business and learn everything you need to know about a particular topic in a few hours.

It's only efficient if you can't be doing things other than listening. Else, podcasts/audiobooks are just videos that convey less information. Whether they're superior to actual reading depends on the person and the subject matter.

I read all the time. I think we all do...the Internet...

Maybe not as great as learning from books, but I think people do get some knowledge just reading random things on the Internet

i dont really agree brah.. i mean, i do and i dont. there's something to be said about the physical reality of making things happen, as in.. yes, gates did put himself in the right spot..

however, look at the difference

gates grew up in the 60's with computers just burgeoning and about to be a huge revolution
compare that to kids nowadays that learn programming

they're both doing the same thing, but the headstart in the 60's means gate's company(ies) were in at the foregrounds and will disable future programmers to achieve the same success

there's definitely a luck component to it.

btw, both of his parents did well and from what i ascertained, gates was kinda autistic. his mom forced him out to do social things and she was mayor of the city they were in and well connected

Exactly.

The idea that every billionaire or millionaire is down to pure self determination, simply isn't reality. Fortune plays a big part.

Bill Gates went to a private school, that had a computer lab that they let students use whenever they wanted. That might not seem like much to us now, but at the time computers were new to the general populace. Although that isn't the only reason for his success, he openly admits that it gave him an advantage...

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/24/bill...gh-school.html

Yvette Carnell is an African American Activist who specializes in economics, and she was the one who schooled me on the concept of 'timing' when it comes to rich people's success.

I also learned reading from a another source that normally it's 1st and 2nd wave entrants into a tech field (e.g. social media) that tend to become the most successful. 1st because they are new, and 2nd because they are still relatively new and improve upon the 1st waves tech. After that it gets harder and harder, like you point out about programmers in the 21st century vs programmers in the 1960s.

Fred Trump built his empire, because he was lucky enough that the Federal Housing Adminstration was giving real estate developers loans for projects. Without that he wouldn't have made his wealth - literally the government loan project that sprang up at the time, was the vehicle for his success - he didn't do it purely through private hard work, there was very lucky timing involved.

Fred then gave Trump millions of dollars, schooled him on real estate from his own experience, and (obviously) helped him rub shoulders with influential people, and Trump built on those things to become a billionaire.

Are you implying there isn't any right spots right now? The rate of technological expansion has created more right spots than ever before.

Cream rises to the top, Gates, Musk, Buffet, Munger and countless other successful people are fastidious readers, those are the facts. If people don't follow their same habits, how can they talk to me about luck?

Read 100 books every year for 10 years and let's see what happens.

NVious I don't get why you're mentioning certain outliers and you are so sure that the only thing differentiating them is their habits and hard work. Can you be absolutely sure that there are other people working just as hard/smart but they are just not talented enough, or in the right environment and time, etc?

I agree with the general idea of what you're saying. If you build those habits and become better in your field, you might appear more lucky to other people because you'll be able to identify and seize more opportunities.

That doesn't mean you'll be able to do what Bill Gates or Warrent Buffet did, but that's completely fine, not everyone's goal is to be a billionaire or even a millionaire.

Because people don't look at what it takes to be an outlier. You don't look at the underlying principles of the creation of an outlier.

I am sure, you can see this post

https://forum.obnoxiousbrutes.com/showt...post1592870851

Average IQ of these people is 110, all of them can be at a much better spot in their lives, theyCHOOSEnot to. I can list 30 more personal examples, people being basically the same everywhere, I have no doubt this happens around the world too.

Luck doesn't exist, it's cause and effect. Was it luck that Gates spent 10 years alone working on Microsoft?

https://modernphilosophystandards.co...es-dark-years/

From 20-30 is unheard of, he locked himself in an office and never took off days to build his company. The 10 dark years

I see it everyday in my own field, I seen it in my father's field and I seen it in my mother's field. I've seen it my entire life everywhere I went.

But honestly IDGAF, maybe luck does exist, maybe the Kybalion is wrong, maybe it's not cause and effect.

In that case:

Better luck next incarnation

Successful people i know know how to grind is the first thing that sticks out.

The other thing is they are embarassed by the idea of wasting hours playing video games, smoking/drinking, tv movies, internet etc. Every poor person ive met thinks its normal to spend 5-10 hours a day on these.

Lastly they have a vision

Ironically, Jay Z and Master P are examples of 'timing', luck (in a twisted sense), and receiving a lot of help to get to where they are...

Jay Z and Master P hit the big time in the 90s, after Tupac and Biggie had died after they both brought Hip Hop over to the brink of crossing over to the mainstream. They both rose to prominence only after Biggie and Tupac died and left a void, and they were also part of the '2nd wave' in hip hop (the first generation of rappers were practically gone by then, there music was considered 'old school' by that point).

Jay Z was actually a far, far better lyricist on his first and second album (even he admits that), but it was his 3rd album which was the one that made him successful.

Master P was known for taking Tupac's themes, and repackaging them from a Southern perspective.

He literally had an album in '99 entitled "Only God Can Judge Me"... Which was the exact same title of one of 2pac's most famous songs, that he did on the last album before he died. Rap journalists were writing in the 90s and early 00s about Master P using a lot of the themes and images from 2Pac.

Edit: This person on this thread lists all the ways that Master P/No Limit Records copied 2pac, to ride the wave of his popularity after his death...http://www.dubcnn.com/connect/index.php?topic=16210.0

Honestly, you picked really bad examples, to seemingly try to sarcastically reply to me.

It's also well known in the music industry that you do not become popular solely due to talent and hard work. Getting your record played regularly on mainstream radio shows, and written about in magazines, takes 'pull' from executives. Honestly, it's well known. Eminem released an LP that went nowhere, it was only after Dre picked him up, and they did the media hype, that he gained popularity. Popular artists aren't self made (there are a lot of interviews/videos online where producers and artists talk about how the music industry works... And believe me, it isn't simply hard work and skill that gets people to become popular and successful. It usually takes corporate backing.

Rappers like Immortal Technique are exceptions. And even he doesn't have the fame and wealth that say a bunch of mumble rappers do.)

Jay Z and Master P were not self made, they received corporate backing - as a way to make money off of the rising profits of rap music.

(I used to be a rap fanatic, literally at the same time that Jay Z and Master P began their assent. )

(I used to be a rap fanatic, literally at the same time that Jay Z and Master P began their assent. )
Damn, I didn't know it was so easy for them, why didn't other rappers do what they did then? There had to be tens of thousands in America in a similar spot of non-popularity at that time, so what's their prob, did they just hate money and success?

I don't know why you wrote that, because both that post you replied to, and the one before that, because I arguing that it's not easy, and requires things that are out of their control(e.g. The death of 2 rap icons, corporate backing, being a the bigging of the computer revolution with open access to computers, when most people didn't). I was saying that luck/'timing', and corporate backing (meaning millions of dollars and influence in the mainstream media) are necessary for success.

Have you heard of survivorship bias Nvious? That's what you seem to do in regards to successful people.

For every rapper, actor or entrepreneur who puts their success down to purely hard work and persisitence, there are a million who tried the same thing and go nowhere.

So it's not easy, but they got lucky?

Was it out of their control to start rapping? Was it out of their control to write the music they did? Was it out of their control to apply good principles and borrow from the best? Was it out of their control not to give up right away? Was it out of their control to double down on their success?

Completely and totally unprovable.

Go ahead prove it, you will need a day log of Jay Z and Master P's actions v the people who failed, do you have that? No? Then don't cite it as evidence.

The "for every XYZ, there are people who did the same things and didn't succeed" is just a popular meme, there never is and never will be any substantiation because it's IMPOSSIBLE to substantiate such a claim.
