Props to all those that post up in here (regardless of weight). I wish I too could play but I will just have to cheer on you guys.....but boy I really do miss the feel of a bar bending!
You're hardly the voice of reason on deadlifts. You posted a video of you performing 1 deadlift and 19 touch and go's. LOL

You do realise those are not deadlifts?

So....there it is. Boy I feel schooled. You must be quite the expert.

Here all these years, when I have at times utilized touch and go deadsas partof a training regimen....I must be a fool.

If only one day I would have realized my stupidity, I might have actually been able to lift something. You are right....I know nothing of a deadlift.

And before any of the guys either lack the ability to read, or did not read this thread, I no longer deadlift as I got in a car accident and fractured my spine and was left with 2-buldging, and 1-displaced disk. Not an excuse...just the reality of my situation. Signed: The guy that does not know what a real deadlift is.

By the way, this was at 200lbs bw. FWIW..... @Safin, feel free to post a vid bud. I'll beat it right now with a fuked back, while taking a nap

What I SHOULD have done is give props to Halfway for sure. That is an AWESOME vid. While the weight itself may not be huge, those that know the journey, should drop their jaws at that!

MAJOR props!!!!

I MIGHT try a set of deads next week. Been a few years. I am just a little nervous that I lack the self-control to not go too heavy. I'll post it up good or bad if I do. Props to keeping it real.

Thanks for the inspiration guys!

The deadlift requires full body strength I agree

However, I don't think the deadlift is a great bodybuilding movement. It doesn't do anything well that you can't build better with something else

I would rather do RDLS for hamstrings and rack pulls for low/mid back development to be honest

Although I do believe I have the 2nd best DL in this thread at 655, I don't really like to do it any more

Thanks I_d, hopefully your journey back is less obstacle ridden than my last 5 years.

I dont think I want to do more reps with 405 but I'd like to get back to 495 x 10 before the wheels fall off

This is very good.

What was your height and weight here?

Very good effort on the squats as well.

But you need to go deeper. Wasn't below parallel or even at parallel.

But overall a really good effort.

What do you think you can run a 40 yard dash in ? Go to the track and film yourself this week.

Also you should just lift with your herniated disk anyways. I do all the time. Push through the pain and keep pushing yourself. Keep lifting.

GO.
Sounds good. Give me about 2 months to work at it and i'll see if I can get 530 for 5. I do them without a belt though. So you wouldn't be allowed to wear a belt.

I have no idea. I am pretty fast but I dont run much. Last time I sprinted was about 5 years ago. Pool party and late in the night on of my friends son's called the 'old men' for a foot race in the street. He was the fastest kid on his HS football team and cocky. I tried to pass as I was pretty drunk. But I went up against him in a 40-'ish'. Within the first 6 strides I was already WAY ahead of him and then my calf popped. (I was totally cold and had not run in years...and was 1/2 drunk). I beat him by about 10' at the end. Have no idea how fast that was, but for a drunk middle aged guy, I'd say it was a good time.

As for "just push through the pain", I am closing in on 50 and (besides my back) I feel the best I ever have. Quality of life is more important than how much I can lift. I still have the drive to lift 'heavy' as it is all I have ever known, but I have been forced to change my goals. There are people who have it WAY worse than me. I can only imagine what losing the use of one's lower body might be or worse. So I dont complain about it. "It is what it is".

I am just trying to find the balance point where I can still enjoy my training. I have focused more on being 'in shape' and look the most 'fit' I ever have. Strength is still there, I just have to be careful what I ask of my body to do. At my 1yr follow up, my ortho said 'let pain be your guide'. He said there was a lot of soft tissue damage and it may never get better....or it might over time.

Anyway.....back to this thread! No living in the past. I might try a set of deads. If I do, I will probably stick to touch and go so I can stay tight the entire time as a precaution. (I had my back 'go out' squatting 225 when I had a lapse of concentration) so I am going to play it safe if I try this. No comp with anyone else here,...this thread has motivated me to try! Thanks!

You have an excuse for everything. Was deadlifting (bouncing) X amount.....car crash.... was running and beating some chad who was drunk ..... calf popped.

I bet you're the type to tell stories in the pub about how you would have gone pro if it weren't for your dodgy knee.

Come off it. You're an average Joe like the rest of us plebs.

Well prior to today I had never pulled over 455 for reps, and that is still true. Wanted to get that second rep in, but it is what it is. Not trying to let my ego take me on a one way trip to Snap City so I set it back down...

Damn that moved fast AF. I didn't have a good time today with 425. Got completely out of position on the 4th rep.

Yeah the first rep felt great, quickest 5 plate pull I've ever done, thought for sure I had the second but I let it get away from me. No worries, I'll give it another go in a few weeks.
