I have excelled in every aspect my job demands of me to the point my resume reads like those in the highest levels of management in my career field..... however, I am so socially awkward, eccentric, and abnormal..... i have a hard time connecting with people. Plus I think I have a weird voice.

You can make a case for THE DEGREE to which environmental factors influence people’s lives, but you’d have to be a complete idiot to cut it out of the equation entirely.

Read all the responses. Very interesting array of thoughts.
But some of you missed the point of the question.
For example, "laziness." Or "Fear." Why? What is making you lazy? What is making you fearful?
Most of you guys need to go one step further. Dig a little deeper.

ADHD, and a severely incompetant local department that deals with ADHD cases. (I really can't emphasize how they have screwed me over the past 4 years... I'm genuinely considering legal action).
If I had the ability to have discipline and a tolerance for low stimulation activities, I think my financial circumstances would be much better... And as a consequence other areas of my life would improve (e.g. greater ability to find a partner, improved social life due to ability to do social hobbies, etc).
Saying that though... I have clawed my way into a daily routine of reading, exercise, and writing... That's about it (aside from basic hygiene and cooking).

I think it probably has something to do with having to put my life on hold multiple times through health issues. I'm used to life going great for a bit and then backing off - it's like I'm waiting for the backing off period to breathe, except that I've been "breathing" for years. The social worker assigned to me last round warned me that this may happen, that if you're not careful it's easy to live your life as if things will eventually get bad again and that people will treat you that way as well. But, I have a plan to work through that over the next 7 months.
What I do know is that I'm a lazy sack of chit and I'm capable of so much more. I used to have a work ethic but have coasted the last several years because of likability and general cheerfulness. I've been comfortable for a long time and I'm really looking forward to breaking out of that.

Just the fear of sabotage, really. I know I have the capacity to do pretty much anything I want but being 6'4" manifests obstacles that make it somewhat difficult. Almost every single time I've worked in an environment that has a male majority worker base, I seem to get phased out by napoleon complex manlets. You can try to say that It's all in my head or blah, blah, blah, but 20% of the threads being height and dik size based proves my point. Men absolutely fuking hate me and will use any opportunity they get to underhand insult, make the boss think I'm not pulling my weight, etc. (The reality is usually that I pull most of the weight). It's kinda sad that grown men can't be secure enough to work and coexist with someone that's taller than them without throwing their insecure manlet tantrums. It's happened so many times that I'm almost convinced I need a job where I work completely alone. It's really too bad that people actively hold me back because I have potential to change the world in a big way. That being said, I reflect on all my failures and I can admit fault in some circumstances. Anyone who's under 6ft should consider themselves lucky.
Edit: I can't even count the times that some guy shorter than 5'8" has tried to fight me for nothing. It's quite pathetic. Since I don't want to hurt these guys I usually have to use some form of intimidation to scare them into submission.

If someone says laziness, that means nothing. If it was just that, then you could just stop being lazy. But if you actually look at yourself and figure out what exactly is making you lazy, you can work on that and not be lazy. Someone could be lazy because they are really avoiding the idea of putting in tons of work that may not work out in the end, so that stifles their growth. Not the laziness itself. That's just the result.
My fear of taking risk has been because of over a 14 years of constant being told I wasn't good enough because of xyz, which eventually converted into a lack of self esteem to put myself in a position to take risk of failing. That stifles growth.

Fair point. I think there’s a few factors influencing my lazyness, but one of those factors is definitely personality. That’s not to say I can’t change it, BUT no matter how many improvements I make I don’t think i’ll ever hit the heights of someone who’s naturally conscientious/industrious.

I have the same problem, I think all "overthinkers" do, because when you think about it really hard there really is no "purpose". But I guess we have to be fine with that and enjoy life as much as we can
I have found that small goals work better for me than big goals, just day to day stuff

Biggest issue I had was that I made other people's problems my own. Started with friends and then when I needed them they were no where to be found. Then I got into a very toxic relationship where I made all of her problems my own when I really didn't have to. Anything I have done or put my mind to I've been really successful at, but I was too busy trying to fix other people's problems that I wasn't being selfish on myself. 2020 is a different year though.
I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie, not a single time; never. These allegations are false. And I need to go back to work for the American people. Thank you.

I need to tackle my anxiety but I don't because it's a good excuse for mediocrity. It fits me to settle into an acceptable lane and pleasantly surprise people when I feel like caring.
