My SPR started having short stroke issues...thought it was the new BCG (adjustable gas) or maybe the trigger dragging...but something felt a little funny when running the charging handle...

Turns out the buffer just decided to self destruct instead.

There's...what is that...rubber?...on the inside, inside the roll pin? I've never opened a buffer myself but I kind of thought there would just be a weight there (steel or tungsten)?

The pin keeps the whole plastic dingus in there. Behind that are the weights.

Other than being a potential cat ass trophy if it had happened at the wrong time, it's been a learning experience for sure.

This was a normal CMT buffer...the same company that supplies Noveske, Colt, LMT, etc. The lower just had tens of thousands of rounds on it since the early 00s.

Oh okay the pin goes through the rubber plastic thing. Duh. So the tip broke from repeated hard bottoming out at the end of the tube. hehe

Received my Geissele order on Wed, built the lower yesterday. Haven't received upper, not worried though, the product itself should be great let alone the amazing price. I saw that Geissele instagram post and lol'd, I don't think it makes them look bad "SeLf DePrAcAtInG hUmOr iS uNpRoFeSsIoNaL"

I like how the military’s Geissele rails have been bending like a mother fuker and when people asked bill about it he was like um, I’ll let you know why and how we will fix it after the holidays. It’s been over a year and now he ignores the questions about the rails bending. But y’all keep riding his dick.

Link? Under what use are they bending? I mean...they're aluminum, no? Not some space age alloy that's impervious to bending. Aluminum isn'tthatstrong.

Link to this? Supposedly the Geissele rails are some of the more rigid ones out there but if there's an issue I'll dump mine...I depend on a Mk4 holding zero for my DBAL.

The only thread I could find was people saying their **** was coming loose and rotating, but I'm not sure how these were installed. Lots of people out there install incorrectly so wouldn't surprise me. If it's happening on factory guns, that's a problem.

So I installed the **** on my SBR to try to mitigate gas to eye, long story short, I couldn't get the end plate back on because the spring for the rear takedown pin was like pushing rope. I had two detents in there because I thought the one went sproing along with the spring but it was only the spring that got launched so I put a new spare detent in over the old. God

Quick google search and apparently there's been a lot of accounts of rifles taking very small drops and rails bending to the point of contacting gas blocks causing serious POI shifts in zeros, etc.

It's apparently a real issue that Geissele refuses to address.

I need a recommendation for "combat pants" that don't look like combat pants. So no camo (kaki or some kind of solid tan or brown is ideal) and no external or otherwise obvious knee pads probably. Initial look says something like Crye G3 field pant? What else? Just for range use, shooting, classes, long days wanting to pocket a bunch of stuff out and about without lugging a bag around, etc. Bonus points for removable internal knee pad option

Edit: Oh yes, so if you're inna woods doing your thing and your buffer explodes, would you rather be carrying a pistol than not?

Crye is good **** but if you want pants on a lighter budget LAPG makes a few legit styles. Don't get the ones with internal cargo pockets...they dont look natural at all.

Tbh...in hundreds of thousands of rounds (probably close to a million) on the AR platform this was a first. Multiply that to proximity to other experienced users...

Up until now the only total failure I've had was an LMT BCG extractor pin shattering. I assumed that carrying an extra bolt would fix almost every problem but this actually changes my way of thinking about the problem.

The dudes at G should focus on what they're good at. Expansion only works if you do a good job at your new products, too.

Businesses that are focused on making goods that involve our community (dudes, construction/trades, etc.) tend to do poorly at customer service.

There were a lot of threads on it on arfcom at least. Because Bill and Mark Larue both post there and go at each other. It’s funny. For example,

Jesus Christ dude. The USGI rails bending on military guns is WELL documented. Geissele said yea um we’ll talk about it after the holidays and never did.

Yea that’s a real smear campaign. Mark is just making fun of how over their heads They got. It’s not like Larue is perfect either.

And also to be fair to Geissele, I think they were just making the rails to the military spec. It’s what they wanted.

Geissele has stronger rails but the mil didn’t want those I guess?

I have a MCMR that probably would fare just as bad in similar testing. Thin, light rails are going to be more prone to stuff like this.
