They already tried with anesthesia. Didn't even come close to being implemented. Anesthesiologists continue to make 400,000$/year. They're trying now with radiology but when I'm considering placing a duodenojejunal stent in a pancreatic cancer patient, I want to talk with the radiologist about the patient's cancer, not consult with a robot. In 50 years? Maybe who knows. Not anytime soon.

OP do you not think that radio is going out of business real soon? Beyond image guided procedures, they are just pattern recognition software that is no where near perfect. Likewise with microbio - the hallmark features under microscope can readily be programmed into pattern recognition AI.

Likewise with cardiologists that make a killing reading ECGs or stress tests --> that is pattern recognition at its finest. If radio goes, we could make a case for even echo going next.

Of course an MD can serve as a 2nd line filter in all of these cases and likely will. But it will cut into the # of MDs hired and downward pressure on wages.

My rule is this.

If it can kill you, seek out a doctor.

If not.. Youre better off with google 90% of the time. Ive noticed when the liability isnt there they just dont give a fuk.

I always heard antidepressants were the devils work, make people kill themselves, etc. Finally started seeing a shrink 2 years ago for various issues. I raised some concerns. He said its really simple.

The people are already mentally sick when they start them. These are people that have seriously considered suicide or tried before and other things mentally unwell people do. When you read the suicide rates for the meds he prescribes, they show

mentally unwell group hes trying to save VS the general population

Instead of

Mentally unwell group on antidepressants VS Mentally unwell group that opted to not take them.

Not saving someone from a lethal event or condition that was going to happen regardless that you tried to save them from does not equal doctor liability but most people are too stupid to understand this. Reminds me of a teenage lifeguard that was arrested for not rescuing a child fast enough while the parents were off somewhere not watching the kid.

This is not true either, pure imaging radiologists are still needed and interventional radiology is the future, a growing field and will replace many areas of surgery/surgical training.

Ok so where is this technology and how will you implement it all over the country in different hospitals? We can't even read EKGs using computers. The machine told me 2 days ago that a patient is in A flutter and I lol'd.
And when it's 230AM and you're about to make a big decision for a patient, will you really take the robot's word? The answer may be yes but it'll take years and years of adaptation.

And no radio isn't going out of business. Would you let a surgeon take you to the OR for a major abdominal surgery for something that a radio has not looked at yet?

Not happening anytime soon, would need to be incredibly complex. Each procedure, each disease , each pathology is unique, each patient is unique , no blanket program is going to be able to cover everything, let alone the various combinations/ permutations.

However, what we will see in this century is probably improvements and widespread use of robot-assisted procedures, which enhance precision, let you do things outside of normal capacity.

Complexity is only going to favor AI... Deepmind has already created a program that beat the best go player in the world, beat the best chess engine and mapped protien structures based on it's genetic sequence.

Lol dude like 3/4 of my patient census in the hospital have multi-organ failure. I don't think the general public realizes that we spend 90% of our time managing very sick and incredibly complex patients.
Your rash and coughs/colds, which most people come in with, is barely even considered part of my daily job.

We can't even have a computer read an EKG properly or implement EMR changes without a thousand issues. Having a robot that can just suture isn't even on the horizon. Maybe in 100+ years.
