Already have a 4 week emergency food supply (25 year shelf life), but I have had that for a year or so now. More in case of an earthquake or something like that; just a smart thing to keep around IMO.

I go to Sam's or Costco pretty much 2x/week at lunchtime . . . mostly to buy rotisserie chickens to break down and keep on hand for snacks & meals. But I'll pick up whatever other stuff we need while I'm there.

There's been a considerable uptick in people I've seen pushing flatbed carts loaded up with water, canned goods, TP, etc the last couple weeks.

People have been saying that, but I went to Costco in metro Atlanta back on Friday and didn't notice anything. Pallets of 20-25 lb bags of rice, pallets of chicken, fit crunch protein bars on sale $12 for 18 bars with good dates...just got myself 54 protein bars and then ordered like 5 boxes at 29% off of bb.com brand yesterday. mmmm, protein bars.

I feel like this weekend is when the mass public accepted that it was time to actually have food in their house and felt it was socially acceptable to talk about the virus seriously

Had/have a flu outbreak (and some areas quarantined) at work and they have been handing these masks out like candy to everyone (inmates think they prevent you from getting sick, rather than just preventing the sick from spreading it as easily); now they are worried we wont have enough if we get a covid outbreak.

Viruses are small, they probably go through the masks. But the masks can stop airborne water droplets that have virus in them which might help, they reportedly do help keep a lot of containment contained when the sick wear them by containing droplets particularly when sneezing, and ...

...big things masks do for us IMO...they keep other people away from you because you look contagious (all scenarios and times, general principle) which of course helps keep you safe, and we don't realize how often we touch our face it really forces you to consciously think about not touching your damn face all the time

I'm LDS crew, we been prepping for hundreds of years now. Always had a year+ supply of food and water for as long as I can remember growing up (rotated and cycled items)... that said, I personally as a single adult don't lmao, plan is to make a couple hour trip back to my home town if it actually gets bad. I do have about a month or two of food and water though.

ETA:

I hear costcos in Utah and parts of Idaho have been cleared out the past couple of weeks. About to go to Costco here myself to get some dogfood and a few other things. Will see how it is.

Publix had progresso cans of soup buy one get one free last week. Literally like 98 cents each for "premium" 18.5oz cans of soups. I got little more than I normally would, like a dozen cans (so, almost nothing), anyway, point is soup was literally BOGO last week and I had to sort through them because there were past-date cans of soup still on the shelf, on BOGO. Feb 2020 mixed in with all the way out to Jan 2023. Then I came home and ate some instant mashed potatoes and a can of chicken that was dated best by 2015. FIFO lol

I really just haven't reached a level where I'm that worried about the actual virus. That doesn't mean that the general public won't reach mass panic levels and things get dumb, but mostly I'm not all that worried. I did try to finally buy some jugs of water this weekend, but that was mostly because an 8ft diameter water main broke in Houston and half the city was out of water and/or on boil notice. My water was fine where I am, but it made me realize that I don't really have any water source stored at home and should get on that. Anyhow, the store was out of gallon/3 gallon jugs of water, but had plenty enough bottled water. Unsure if that's fear from the virus or fear from the busted water main. But I picked up a case of bottles just because and called it a day.

Everybody (everybody) should haveat least1 week of water for the household meaning a minimum of 1 gallon per person per day.

It's pretty, uh, stupid, for example, how many people have 5k rounds of ammo "for SHTF" but don't have 3 days worth of water. Like...****ing morons

Not worried about covid-19. All kinds of children and babies have it in China, and it's meh. No one died from covid-19 under the age of 9. If it can't kill a baby, then I ain't worried.

Back from Sam's . . . TP and water bottle supplies were significantly down vs Friday. Lady at the front checking receipts said it's been pretty consistent with people saying they were stocking up because of the virus panic.

I included it on my P365 XL and I carry strongside. I can tell that it keeps it in tighter against your body. works well. I don't recall it being expensive (if not free) so I thought it was a useful add on

It really depends on what the money is for and what your appetite for volatility is. If it's rainy day money for use sometime in the distant future, then coronavirus has had no material impact on the markets and any time is good to get in. If you are thinking of trying to generate some gains on the money you're using for a house down payment in 9 months, I'd be more careful.

Also this. What has been driving businesses and their fundamentals hasn't been called into question here. Supply chain disruption can/will certainly slow production and hurt business, but it isn't like we've had some massive bubble burst that we needed to reset prices because of. If you wait a couple of weeks to see where we are, you'll likely miss some bounces, but you'll have peace of mind. Assuming things level out, I guess.
