Who cares if we all die?
We were all supposed to be dead because of Y2K. These 20 years were just a bonus anyway.

Look, if the media reported every death from the regular flu or every car accident death, a lot of sheep would panic as well.

This is just going to lead to bad laws because the panicked population just wants the politicians to “do something”

Fuk the fear mongers. Live your life. Stop worrying about things you have no control over.

Sports events being cancelled. You got more chance of dying on the way to the sporting event.

In true 21st century social media fashion, it’s become a race to see who can panic the most.

It’s a glorified flu at the end of the day.

Leading versus lagging indicators. Waiting for millions to die would be quite a lagging indicator. Not saying it's the end of the world, but I definitely don't want to see complete apathy regarding a potentially serious risk to the economy and the lives of our elders.

Dude, among other things, on Friday, Trump specifically declared that anyone who wants a test can now get one and that the CDC tests are perfect.

In reality, CDC is still struggling to deliver tests after the manufacturing issues, and we can't even keep up with testing the people we're quarantining.

The guy has started to approach Baghdad Bob levels. As I've said before, it's weak leadership to not just own that this is very bad, that there are ongoing problems, and that everybody needs to stay calm and pull in the same direction, instead of insisting that everything is going great, that any problems are "fake news", and that governors calling out federal failures are "snakes".

A point of clarification. I think I have been guilty of using the term "exponential" in the past regarding this outbreak. Exponential trends terminate in infinity. There will obviously NOT be infinite deaths. This is logistic growth, not exponential. Similar, but subtly different.

Cancer doesn't just suddenly explode and overwhelm a health system. You can expect a certain number of cancer cases per year and allocate the appropriate resources to handle it.

COVID-19 has more or less come out of left-field and has the potential to strain and overwhelm our health system.

No, I mean crippled by overwhelmed hospitals which are unable to accept non-coronavirus patients because they're running out of equipment and personnel or unable to manage contamination. Italy is pulling medical professionals out of retirement and graduating classes of nurses early to press them into service immediately. The British NHS is already preparing to convert unused operating theaters into respiratory wards. They lost significant numbers of doctors and nurses to quarantines as well as the infection itself. Kirkland, WA ended up with 25% of its firefighters quarantined just from mishandling the nursing home.
