We have had almost no testing at all since the first cases so the numbers being reported are absolutely not accurate to what the real infection numbers are. Hopefully by weeks end we will have a better idea. I suspect we will be in the thousands by then "officially". I personally believe we're already in the thousands. It has been here for way too long with too many people unknowingly spreading it IMO.
Doctors were denying people tests because they didn't have the perfect symptoms. Many of them were later found to be positive. Many places STILL don't have test kits. The entire thing is a nightmare.

It's also largely going to depend on whether or not China once again hid this **** for 3+months. It could be H1N1 levels but I'd imagine they'll be substantially less since people are so worked up about it.What do you think the best comparison example for initial and later CFR is?
Edit* Just saw the R0 is a 2-3 could be H1N1 levels with more more deaths. Could get a little Western

Gonna be a bumpy ride for awhile. Let's hope the panic subsides, the world economies rev back up and oil climbs out of the chitter by the election.

Likely already well into the thousands. It's been here for weeks at this point and most people who get it apparently have mild (even no) symptoms, so there are way more people out there with it right now. They just aren't being tested and either aren't feeling all that bad or certainly not bad enough to seek care. I agree that the worst here is yet to come and we'll see the deaths ramp up. But it almost certainly will burn itself out and/or go dormat at some point.

...but the scary thing is the virus can go from mild to very serious in a short period of time. Many people went from mild cold symptoms to needing ventilators within 24 hours. No one talking about that chit though...

Yes I've seen that how for the subset that it's serious, it can happenfast.
The school teacher who had it right near here, a sub who was in three schools with a lot of interactions, went down in school and took an ambulance to the hospital where she hasn't left yet far as I know.
Trump chief of staff tests positive, quarantine. Italy gets it, partial lockdown of whole country.
But it's just the flu...right.

Yeah. One of the strongest economies on the planet knowingly tanked their economy by locking down their country for "just the flu".
Flu has less than a .2% death rate.
COVID-19 is 3-4% and currently around 5% in Italy.
The flu killed about 46,000 people this flu season with about 45 million infected.
If COVID-19 infected 45 million people, it would result in about 1.5-1.8 million deaths.
The two aren't on the same level.

Former Vice President Joe Biden got into a heated and profanity-laced argument with an autoworker Tuesday while touring a factory in Detroit, after the individual accused the Democratic presidential candidate of trying to take away his Second Amendment rights.
"You’re full of sh-- ... I support the Second Amendment," Biden shot back, stressing he's not going to take guns away.
The worker then told Biden, "You're working for me, man," and told Biden that he saw an online video supporting his claim that Biden is hostile to the Second Amendment.
Biden, pointing at the individual as they were mere inches apart in the middle of a crowd, said he's not working for him and told him not to be "such a horse's a--."
Biden, at one point mistakenly referring to "AR-14's," went on to press the individual to acknowledge that machine guns are illegal. Biden appeared to then misspeak in saying AR-15's are illegal, before questioning why anyone needs "100 rounds."
