One can only hope. Going anywhere with a large number of people is a poor choice right now.

My wife is Catholic. I'm agnostic. Makes for some interesting conversations at times but she knew that going in 24+ years years ago. There was a communication from the diocese that they were cancelling all "events" but masses would still be held. I told her (for about the 3rd time in a week) they should just cancel mass or do it via stream.

She said it's not the same as being there and that God would protect them. I rolled my eyes and walked away. Reminds me of the joke Catholics tell where the guy is stuck on a roof during a hurricane and boats keep coming by to help but the man on the roof keeps saying "I'm fine--God has a plan and will rescue me." Guy on roof dies and when he gets to the pearly gates, he says "why did you abandon me??". Peter looks at him and says, "well, we sent four boats for you."

Can't sleep tonight for chit. My mind has the best of me. I hope in a month...two months...whatever that I just look like an absolute fool, but I'm genuinely scared for what the next month or so will look like. I honestly can't think of a situation in my life so far so that has me as rattled as I am right now.

Can't be that bad. China seems to have it under control. Worst case might be getting sick. I don't think it's going to be looting and anarchy, military presence will be strong enough to dissuade that.

Italian hospitals so overwhelmed that doctors are literally proposing a max age to treat in order to focus efforts on younger patients that might actually kick the virus.
If that doesn't wake you the fk up to the severity of this, nothing will. In the year 2020, with the most advanced medicine has ever been, doctors are being forced to sit by and let older patients die. Italian death rate almost at 7%...

I'm not going to totally discount the possibility of the lab angle . . . because there's always the chance. But China has been the source of these diseases more than once. Not really a stretch to see why this probably is just another one. This was a pretty interesting discussion of "why China?".

Got a USPS tracking confirmation and update on those N95 masks I ordered. Scheduled to arrive Friday. So . . . looks like it will come through. Now the question will be if they are really 3M N95 masks when they get here? Given the shortage and panic, there's still a part of me that is suspicious of bait & switch but all seems legit so far. Think I just got lucky and randomly stumbled upon a place that briefly had some.

Now this is interesting. I could only imagine it would be hard to prove intent, they could claim (to an extent) they did not know they were sick. Not easy once symptoms get obvious of course.

Unrelated, I chose a bad time to order some stuff from China, few flashlights and another gun bag on sale, estimated ship date.... November 2020-March 2021. Ah well, guess I will see if that goes out. INB4 containment breach from opening the box.

Went to visit my grandpa last week and at the check in, asking you a series of questions at the nursing home to try to prevent it getting there. Hopefully nobody is lying. Curious what measures they’ll take to ensure it doesn’t happen

Depends how it plays out.

Hopefully it's not a huge deal and it's not as bad as 1918 and people lol at the overreactions. That would be awesome.

The more people realizenow(or a week ago) that it could be that bad the more likely we are to look back and say it was over reaction. It's that catch 22 kind of thing like the IT guys complain about either why do we spend all this money what's it for (when it's working) or why do you spend all this money if it doesn't even work.

Realizing how serious it could be, NOW, is the best way to keep it from happening like that

I think our advancement is what is hurting us; never before has it been so easy to travel the world. You can get sick in one country and be in another, infecting all in between, with a day.

It just shows how weak we are to pandemics. Hopefully this is not as bad as it seems, but it is a wake up call and causes more to be done in prevention for future viral outbreaks.

Yeah . . . Spanish Flu is probably the best comparison. Or maybe Polio. Although Spanish Flu was a buzzsaw and killed tens of millions worldwide (and I think almost 700k here). I don't think anyone sees COVID-19 getting that bad but this is probably the next closest thing in terms of global pandemic where ronburgundythatescalatedquickly.gif happened.

^That. Take it seriously now . . . do all the smart things and err on the side of caution and be aggressive with social distancing. Odds are, this will be looked back at and you'll see a far-less-than-worst-case result in terms of deaths. But you don't have that then if you're not smart about it now.
