Have run a handful of mags through it with no issues and it’s my 1st AR. Good buddies brother picked up the longer version of the rifle in the Op and am debating on snagging another or just kidding mine.

Thanks dude
I recall them being decent rifles. They have a lot of ambi controls, but the handguard that's solid for the first 5 inches can trap heat and cause mirage, use the other one.

Trigger is worse, no mag. Additionally, you have to be 21 to buy this. OP is 18.

I'd still take the OP, but at least this is a midlength with sights.

Thanks man! Definitely agree.
I swapped over to a hand guard from SLR as a Christmas gift to myself.

Really? That is the upgraded two stage... Shot my brothers and it was nice.

It wasn't a geissele trigger, but it beat the chit out of my mil-spec...

As for the mags. I figured everyone just bought one of those case+8 mag PSA package deals.

The PNT is not great, while the Ruger is a respectable trigger. The one you linked is a decent deal, certainly better than the ones mentioned on Page 1, but I'd still take the OP. For a new shooter who's probably running almost exclusively 55gr the 1:8 twist barrel will make more sense.

Compared to other entry-level ARs on the market, you're still coming out way ahead here with all the upgrades this thing is packing. In fact, this is more a mid-tier piece at an entry-level price.

18'' cold hammer-forged barrel w/5R rifling: $200

Ruger’s Elite 452 two-stage trigger: $140

Low-profile gas block : $10

15-inch free-float handguard: $70

Magpul MOE SL stock: $50

Magpul MOE grip: $15

Sig Romeo 5 red dot: $100

About $600 in upgrades over standard entry-level.

You will be collecting parts for a year at dirt-bottom prices trying to build & beat this package. Pricing under $800 makes this a great deal.

I got one for $625 - she's a dream. Optic is Vortex 1-4 with Aero ultralight mount.

but I'd rather have 15+ rounds of 9mm in the same size package for over 90% of situations

A shotgun will need to be sent to an FFL if you order online. Call to verify the transfer fee price beforehand ($20 to $40 is typical). Credit card will work fine as payment.

This is the cheapest one I'd recommendhttps://tsswarehouse.com/shop/mossbe...ossberg-31023/

The action on these doesn't feel particularly nice but they will go bang very reliably

This is a much nicer gun for not much morehttps://www.gunbuyer.com/catalog/pro...6-mos50516-gb/

My dad has one of thesehttps://gunprime.com/products/benell...04bb-858649697and it has held up astonishingly well considering he abuses the chit out of it

I love Remington 870s but they have had some QC issues with rust since 2007.

All of this is assuming you want a shotgun for personal defense and you are a right handed shooter

Haven't shot the Ruger so wouldn't know the trigger feel.

A lot of my friends have went the PSA route recently. They seem to get great value if they do a few things.

Avoid Freedom Line
Pass on the cheapest available option.
Pass on the complete guns and pair an upper and lower together with the feature set you are looking for.

I have found that if people forgo the $130 complete lower and get the ~$200 ones with the Magpul STR Stock with a trigger upgrade (like the EPT) they end up with a pretty good experience that out does the SUB 1200 off the shelf rifles I have shot.

For the complete uppers I am not a good enough shot to tell the difference in accuracy between a 1/7 and 1/8 with 55 grain.

To me it is about finding the magical balance between feature set, value, and need.

You'll also need state issued ID with current address for the first 2 options. Private sale depends on seller whether you need ID or not.

1.) LOCAL: Go to a gun shop (FFL dealer), fill out form 4473 (NIC) and pay cash or credit for the firearm

2.) Mail-Order: Pay the seller credit or paypal. Firearm is shipped to your local FFL dealer (provided if the seller has the FFL dealer's info on hand, or submitted by the local FFL before the firearm even leaves seller's possession). Once the firearm arrives at the local FFL, fill out a 4473, pay the transfer fee usually set by the FFL (ranges from $15-$60)

3.) Private sale: Depending on your local and state laws: Goto to some place online like armslist, text the seller, setup a meet, trade cash (or barter with some other items) for firearm. No form to fill out.

\That Remington 1100 that Tuskonrider posted is a screaming deal. If you don't know a lot about guns it might be best to just buy new since I'd hate for you to get burned getting a POS for your first gun. At that price though I might just take a flyer on that 1100. I prefer pump actions myself as there are just less things to go wrong with it during crunch time but I'm overly paranoid

Thanks bruh, been going back and forth between the Ruger 8542 and 8514 for the past few weeks.
This was the sign I needed before finally pulling the trigger today ... pun intended?

The price is lower now, got it for $623 shipped. Also picked up a Romeo 5 from Ebay for $104 shipped.
Next steps are bunch of pmags, ammo, light and maybe a sling.

Any recommendation for a light and sling? I have a Streamlight TLR-1s on my Glock and they seem solid.

Cannot post obligatory pic due to first post, oop
