The common flu has an infection rate (how many people you infect after being infected) of 1.4. After 10 rounds that means you have infected 29 people. (1.4^10)

This is true except your infection rate is too high. It's in line with the common cold, which is higher than the flu.
Now since you have educated us you should educate yourself on how deadly the common cold is in older patients with risk-factors. According to this study, for patients that averaged 71.6 years old and had a severe enough case that they had to be hospitalized the 30-day mortality rate is 9.6%, which is higher than the flu at 7.1%, despite the mean age of the flu patients being slightly higher.

From what I've read, the death rate of corona patients in the ICU in this age group is pretty similar, one graph I read on reddit was 10% in the 70-80 age group.

So explain to me how something that spreads like a common cold, has the symptoms of a common cold and has a similar death rate to the common cold in risk groups is somehow something to shut down the whole society over?

TLDR: If you cause panic over the common cold and start tracking deaths you get the same death rate from the common cold. Only difference is if you have coronavirus and cancer your death gets written down as corona. If you have a cold and cancer your death becomes cancer, pneumonia, stroke, malignancy, heart failure etc.
