I was making a pot of broccoli cheese soup but my pepper grinder broke and spit parts into the pot.

I missed the memo that yesterday was The Great American Takeout day, so I ordered delivery for lunch and the instructions the delivery guy gave me for signing my receipt/tipping...I felt like I was escaping a hostage situation. "Okay, now slowly come out, reach for the bottom part of the check holder, nice and easy...."

Food was great, though. Samsa, Lamb Shashlik and Kharcho.

Solyanka - This is a good dish for when your pantry is running low! It's heavy on pickles, but flexible and easy to make.
I'll post the recipe if anyone is interested below.

And expired Soviet ice cream - Plombir - for dessert!

Solyanka Recipe - Note that this is traditionally made with olives which I don't do.
Spoiler!
32 oz chicken broth
4 cups water
1 carrot, cubed or shredded
1 celery stalk
3 pickles, julienned or cubed
8 oz lean stew beef, cut into small pieces
8 oz kiebasa, cut into small pieces
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 Tbsp unsalted butter
1 1/2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cubed tomatoes
1/4 cup pickling brine
2 tsp sour cream
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
1/4 cup chopped dill
1 ½ tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
lemon
sour cream
INSTRUCTIONS
Cut celery into four parts.
In a large pot, bring water, chicken broth and celery to a boil.
Meanwhile, julienne the pickles into thin, short strands or cubes. Slice olives into thin rings. Cube carrots. Finely dice tomatoes. Cube ham.
Cook chopped kielbasa (I don't add fat, the sausage releases a bit as it cooks) and cook for three minutes on medium heat, then add lean stew beef and cook another three minutes. Remove.
Chop the onion and add to a skillet with the 2 Tbsp butter.
Cook on medium heat until onions are completely sautéed and soft (4-6 minutes).
Once onions are sautéed, add the cubed carrots. Sauté until carrots are fully cooked, stirring as needed. Add the flour, mix quickly. Add the diced tomato, pickling brine, sour cream and mix. Set aside. Turn off heat.
Once the water/broth and celery come to a boil, remove and discard celery. Add the pickles and let boil five minutes. Add ham and olives.
Add the sautéed ingredients to the pot. Season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat to low and 10 minutes.
Add the chopped herbs.
When serving, add fresh lemon juice with a dollop of sour cream to bowl with fresh herbs if desired.

I'll post the recipe if anyone is interested below.

Breakfast for dinner...again. Got my hands on some cheap and ripe avocados and this 5 minute meal really hits all the right spots.

Ribs aren't my style but even I'll admit that those look juicy.
Lunch is olivye, sauerkraut, and kielbasa toast

Trying to get rid of the flour in my house before Passover so doing lots of baking so I made Kulich.

I am not usually a bloody mary fan but I decided to start a batch of horseradish vodka about a week ago. Still not a fan but it did go well with the open-faced chop cheese.

Your braised pork looks amazing! I'd definitely try it.

Girlfriend made sourdough starter and baked a loaf last week; today we used it to make whole wheat sourdough blueberry pancakes. Served them with homemade lemon curd, maple syrup, and a side of ff Greek yogurt... GOAT post-10-mile-run brunch.

I made Molly Baz's Gochujang Chicken. 10/10 dish, I really don't know why I'd ever make a roast chicken any other way.

Here's the recipe if any of you are interested:https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/sl...hujang-chicken
And todaysverylate lunch: Smoked salmon, spinach, cream cheese, avocado, all toasted.

Poverty lunch eating on paper plates cause I don't want to do dishes.

Sauce from scratch, it's so easy to do and I love basil. Ground beef and local Italian sausage I got from the farmers market.
Spicy double breaded buttermilk fried chicken. I ended up with some crazy mutant hyooge thighs so they took forever to cook.

Not today but 2 nights ago I made this. If you don't cook steak on a proper cast iron that's smoking hot you are doing it wrong. Salt garlic pepper. And if you don't eat rare steak you are also rong.

Thanks for your input, you frauding fat slampig-Sirfapsalot '20
