Since the virus is never going to completely go away I guess we should just quarantine for life. Because if/when there is a vaccine it won't be 100% effective. There will always be carriers of this so you are going to have to either take your chances and live your life or cower in fear until the end of your days.

People should have a healthy skepticism about where some of these talking points are coming from.
I was wrong to push so hard for these shutdowns myself. I expected the impact on health care to be far worse than it actually is, but I was placing my trust in those experts who have the professional expertise to model pandemics and publicize those models.

The impact of the virus on health care has been minimal relative to the impact of shutdowns on the working and business-owning American people which has been immense and growing more immense by the day.

The forecasts of the dangerous overburdening of healthcare, even with full social distancing, were grossly over-forecast and have been disproven and discredited.
I'm actually surprised that it went as far as it did, I had expected us to see public-facing businesses closed in major cities and softer measures like the initial 50% capacity cuts in restaurants in areas like mine. I'm not sure that would actually have been much easier on the economy, but that's what I was anticipating. I didn't anticipate that we, as a nation, were collectively unable to organize testing and do all of the other things you'd think the United States of America would be better at than China and Italy.

With that said, it should be obvious that the metric is not comparing the measures to what did happen, but to what did not happen, which we can't really test. In any reasonable understanding, it would be "worse", but whether it'd be as bad as expected is uncertain. It's only possible to say that we've done better with the social distancing measures than expected.
For most of the country, there is no rational justification to continue the shutdowns of businesses and employees past the end of April.

Putting people back to work during the first of May will cause more viral transmission than if we don't - that's a given - but at this point we have to accept that outcome and that cost. If there are outbreaks that get far too severe into May and June, then we'll just have to readjust at that point; but for now the people have to be allowed to get back to work sooner rather than later.
Realistically, it's going to take longer than the first of May just to get public-facing businesses ready to open. They need deliveries of supplies and stock from businesses that are closed, and also time to rework their floorplans and get their employees retrained, all of which will require communication from local governments about what the new hygiene rules are.

Last I saw, the White House was floating May 15th as a reasonable target for many areas, and that might be very likely. Unfortunately, the areas where the bigger chunks of "non-essential" economic activity takes place tend to be the wealthier ones, and those tend to be denser and will probably take longer than that to ramp back up. A lot of those activities, like tourism, are probably going to smoldering ruins for a while whether they're open or not. I don't see a quick way out.

Deaths are a better metric to go by than new cases. There is far from enough testing being done. You have to be close to dying to get tested in many countries. Those graphs above show that we are still in an upwards trend, but its some what flattening.

Reading up on this quickly, it seems like the main consequence is that if you've been exposed to one of the previous coronavirus epidemics, like SARS, you might have a much harder time with COVID-19.

- It's not airborne AIDS - there is no evidence of virus directly infecting and depleting T-cells. You should read more. It also means if you get reinfected by the the new coronavirus a second time, it might be a lot deadlier. New cases of people getting reinfected are popping up every day, but it might mean that it never leaves your body in the first place, and that it can attack again, and when this happends your immune system might start to destroy your own body. There are more studies suggesting this theory too.



^^^You mean phd in broscience? There is maybe no solid evidence yet that it infects t cells, but it seems liekely that it does from what I´ve read. And yeah I know that viruses hides in cells. Yeah, I know it says it recovers too, I have read the article. But, we don´t know if it lasts or can´t be broken down again. It doesn't replicate in T Cells. It docks against and deforms them if it happens to collide with them in the exactly, correct way. The immune response is just way slower, not non-existent forever aids. Also, the deformed cells are still impaired functional, probably the same as or better than sickle cells.
