To the phd guy above. Do you read all the new studies on the virus that come out every day, or just a few here and there? While I appreciate your opinion and input, and I will weigh your opinion heavier than the average miscer. However, the biggest experts in the world don´t even know what is going on, even tho they work overtime to figure this new virus out. Therefore, I will assume that you don´t really know whats going on either. More than the average person, but vary far away from a big picture understanding. The world would maybe be a better place if more people would admit they have no idea. I have no clue myself, but at least I´m spending several hours every day reading about the virus, compared to miscers who make their opinion based on the media and the herd, without looking into the data themselves.

cause the economy as a whole isnt dependant on smb's. individuals will get effected , yes.... the economy as a whole wont .... with fiscal, monetary stimulus packages ..... and other economical boosts nothing will die..... the only thing thatll get hit real bad are the people with tons of debt, mortgages ,foreclosure and non-recourse lending ,anyone facing the latter is on them..,,they decided to go with that risk

Only people with mortgages, or who work for small business, or who work non essential service industry, or own or manage any of those, will be impacted...no big deal...lol

Was clearing out my tabs on my phone. Saw a 23 March 2020 old article of US having over 400 fatalities.

Honestly that felt like ages ago. Kind of mind boggling to think we’re at 30k fatalities 4 weeks later.

Also agree with ANumber that I did not expect us to actually lock down the way most states did. But once it’s started coming out of it with enough control and governmental credibility to re-lockdown if needed... is difficult.

Another thing is, I have always been anti bailout or governmental aid for businesses. But in this instance when the lockdown is forcing businesses to close... isn’t it beneficial to the government to help small businesses stay afloat? Coming out of it, if 50% of small businesses are gone.. that’s less taxes, less revenue, more people permanently on welfare. From what I can tell this is the same economic approach U.K. and Germany are taking, keeping as many businesses alive as they can.
They said she's gone too far this time

What in the world are you talking about? Do you even have a job? Taxes are literally paying for over 22 million people's free weekly money right now. Do you know how many total people work in the US?

The virus can go away completely with a complete shutdown for atleast 12 month "given no vaccine is found"

and no ,nothing will happen to the global economy, the rich ,oligarchs will be the only ones who will get effected,
You're an idiot if you think it will just "go away", sounds more like you just want to hide until big brother tells you that it's safe. You're a double idiot if you think only the rich oligarchs are going to feel this. As more and more people get laid off during your indefinite quarantine there is going to be less need for "essential" jobs since there will be no money. Media has got you so twisted up in fear you don't even know what direction is up. Response to all the BS posts after this one as well.

Yes, I do read on it daily. I work for a top 10 biotech which is developing therapies for it, so we discuss it on work calls almost daily. I also support an immunosuppressive therapy, so we have to know the implications of this in the current COVID landscape. I completely agree with you that we still have limited understanding of what it's doing to the immune system, since symptomology is so varied. But I would literally get laughed out of the room if not fired if I were to call this 'AIDS' - it would imply I have 0 understanding on how the immune system works and limited understanding of basic virology. Although these early case reports of CNS involvement, reinfection, etc are valuable, we cant hang our hats on these case reports (yet). Hopefully we will know more and more in the coming months to make our therapeutic and clinical decisions a tad easier.

I keep re-using the same one to go to grocery store etc, but i dunno if it's gonna start doing more harm than good if i dont sterilize it somehow... thoughts? I have disinfectant spray and wipes, and i think another poster mentioned something about putting it in the oven? I have this one :

Threw together a really quick Doubling trend for the United States, similar graphs are surely available somewhere but I haven't seen 'em. This all depends on testing of course, but the numbers are probably a good gauge overall

Note that a higher doubling rate is better, and the doubling trend here is defined as the previous day's total cases divided by the current day's new cases. From a layman's perspective, this seems to say everything officials / experts would need to know about the effectiveness of social distancing measures

Edit: Updated to reflect Doubling Rate and not R0

I'm apprehensive to put an N95 in the oven unless you have a separate oven thermometer and even then, the heat is going to fluctuate +/- 30 degrees.

I'm reusing mine and in between trips putting it in a brown paper bag labeled with the date I left the house. I'd avoid plastic as they trap moisture.

I don't know about everyone else but for the last at least two weeks, Instacart consistently says no delivery times available for every store in my area. I can make it about 2 weeks without going but honestly I'd rather catch the 'vid before going without fresh dill and I'm dead srs.

The city that i'm in only has walmart / another local supermarket that does online ordering / pickup. I've been buying like 400 worth of groceries for my partner and i whenever i go. Lasts us about 2.5 weeks. I love Costco and they don't have a pickup option. I'll just get stuff from one of the other grocery stores next time and plan ahead with the online instacart (its booked far in advance). Definitely doesn't make sense to be going into stores when i don't have to and am just being a bit cheap / preferential when going to costco.

Yeah, i mean i could survive just eating pasta everyday but my partner is preggers and i want her to eat a healthy well rounded diet. So I need fresh / whole foods etc, and like you said, the instacart stuff is always booked way in advance

Hydrogen Peroxide
According to the CDC, household (3 percent) hydrogen peroxide is effective in deactivating rhinovirus, the virus that causes the common cold, within 6 to 8 minutes of exposure. Rhinovirus is more difficult to destroy than coronaviruses, so hydrogen peroxide should be able to break down the coronavirus in less time. Pour it undiluted into a spray bottle and spray it on the surface to be cleaned, but let it sit on the surface for at least 1 minute.

Hydrogen peroxide is not corrosive, so it’s okay to use it on metal surfaces. But similar to bleach, it can discolor fabrics if you accidentally get it on your clothes. “It’s great for getting into hard-to-reach crevices,” Sachleben says. “You can pour it on the area, and you don’t have to wipe it off because it essentially decomposes into oxygen and water.”

Note that a higher R0 is better, and the R0 trend here is defined as the previous day's total cases divided by the current day's new cases. From a layman's perspective, this seems to say everything officials / experts would need to know about the effectiveness of social distancing measures
Why is a higher R0 better?

The higher the R0, the more easily it spread, the more people will get infected, the more people (% of population) we need infected and recovered (and unable to reacquire) to reach herd immunity (or at least enough that it's no longer pandemic levels)

Which stark projections are those? I saw 3,000 to 15,000 deaths in Ontario if public health measures are followed
