I'm exaggerating but there is nothing special about it and if someone says, I don't like IPAs, why recommend them a very middle of the road classic style IPA?

Of course not. I’m only arguing it’s a good option for the style. If you don’t like lagunitas ipa that’s perfectly fine. But saying it’s a piss ipa is silly.

I wasn't into IPA's myself, and it's true about it being middle of the road classic style. I think that's better for a beginner rather than starting off with something too complex that could potentially put them off.

When's the last time you had any IPA from Lagunitas? There were a few beers I didn't like at first, but revisited them sometime later and found them enjoyable.

I actually had some DayTime a few times recently. One of the few session IPAs at the store across the street. It's good.

All I'm saying (I was too sarcastic about it), is that if someone says, I don't like IPAs, recommending them a standard find-it-anywhere IPA isn't going to sway them. At least in my experience it doesn't.

I love a real cold Sapporo with sushi. If you like Japanese beer I highly suggest checking out Hitachino Nest. They make really interesting beer using japanese ingredients.

No not at all. I’d rather have their blind pig ipa to be honest. I think when it was released it was one of the first double ipa big boys and at the time it was a big deal to the beer nerds and neckbeards. I guess it still is to the people that do bottle trades and like waiting in line for hours which I never understood. Pretty cringey to me especially when the states has so many awesome breweries.

I don’t have much experience with cashmere hops other than trying it in Collective Arts (Hamilton, Ontario) collab they did with Stillwater. I love wet hop beers though and Kveik yeast lends really easily to ipas.

Yes cold steeping your roasted barley will help with harsh astringency. If you’re not familiar with brulosophy he’s got a great website and instagram page. Here’s an article he wrote comparing cold steeping and full mash

Lol It’s a great choice for a widely available west coast IPA you can probably find at a gas station. I have my Canadian favourites but from what I’ve had in the States I really liked Sierra Nevada Tor**** Extra IPA, Firestone Walker Union Jack, and Stone IPA. I have favourite east coast and hazy ipas but those are my favourites specific to west coast.

Lol I suggested Pilsner Urquell. If you don’t know what that is and it’s significance I can’t help ya bud. Go try one you wont regret it.

Good ipa: elder the Pliny, most stone brewery, ranger juicy haze
Good red ipa: g' knight (strong), odell run off red ipa

I agree beers should have ratings based on craft of that style. I have had some amazing lagers and pilsners that others rated low because they wanted more juice or whatever. People do not understand the craft that much.

LOL i like this guy. Like i said I live in Canada so i’d rather recommend something i’ve actually had from the states that most people will have access to instead of naming some obscure double ipa from Asheville. And apparently you agree with me for IPA because I recommended Stone IPA. G’Knight is great.

If you’re looking for an e stat battle just go on beeradvocate and argue with them. Most people here aren’t beer nerds so I don’t see the issue recommending approachable (and some world class) beers to explore.

Also I need to check out that Czech beer OP recommends. I can almost swear I've seen that around numerous times in the past, but have never thought to try it (if I'm going to get fancy I mostly like the dark beers - Pilsners aren't something I've ever gotten into). Hopefully I can find some, because now I'm curious.

Im totally over the Pale Ales / IPAs/ Hopmonster style beers.
I think Ive had too many and went full on for the last 10 - 15 years and enjoyed the micro breweries popping up everywhere.
Now i love classy Pilsners and Lagers even old style bitter draughts.

For some reason a lot of the newer style beers are all Hops/nose and the beer seems to have a watery or weaker flavour.
I really love the yeastier full flavoured beers with only moderate hoppyness nowdays. And these tend to be some of the "old man" style beers. Lol.
Im in Oz - so most of the stuff you guys have mentioned is more or less unobtainable here.

Yep. I’d rather they check off that they tried it for their own satisfaction and leave no rating or review if they don’t understand the style. I don’t drink Lambics very often as they aren’t my preference but I can still be objective and rate it accordingly.

Drinking a Godspeed Brewery (Toronto, Canada) Altbier at the moment.

Totally with you on that. I’m all about lagers and english bitters at the moment.
What you’re referring to happens from adding hops late in the brewing process. This will give you A LOT of hop aroma without adding much bitterness. Most hazy ipas are made this way. Huge hop aroma, soft bitterness with not a lot of malt or yeast character.
