I'm looking for a new rental in the next few months. Can't wait to put in a few offers ~$100/week or more under the advertised prices and watch the REA squirm a bit and wait to hear back from the desperate landlord who's just praying to fill the vacancy so he can stave off bankruptcy awhile longer.

Then the 2005 recession
Then the GFC
Then the financial systems inquiry
It’ll be different this time though
I promise

what's it like knowing you're in debt and have to keep payments coming for the next 25 years just to make the banks rich? Also how much money have you lost during the pandemic?

God forbid someone actually invests their money wisely into real estate to have safe future instead of relying on superannuation in their old age. Now the government comes in and says fuk your investment, here's a law that says you're an involuntary philanthropist and have people who made chit decisions in their life to live on your money for free.

it'd be much better if young adults couldn't move out of home until they're in a position to buy a place. people just in the city for a season or a couple of years for a job, they should have to buy a place too and sell it when they move. people trying to get away from an abusive spouse, only if they can afford to buy a new place.
need i continue?
god people's thinking is so one dimensional.

I’m likely further ahead in life at 26 than you are at 40, I’m just not interested in making the lives of those less fortunate harder than they already are.
******* OP literally made a thread about slapping working people forced to live in some dilapidated chitholes into place because they tried to save some money in these hard times, and you’re here roving the thread in support.

Leave the thread and go gouge your 80-year-old tenant for an extra $200. You’re not doing the OP any favors here.

“ But people who have lost their jobs can find themselves stuck, with landlords unwilling to offer a rent reduction and no prospect of landing a new lease while unemployed.”

Real estate is a timeless method of investment. Why this simple fact rustles so many Miscers into talking about 'leeches' or 'jackboots' would mystify me unless I understood (as a landlord) just how many poors there are out there who'd rather buy the latest iPhone than have money to pay their rent.

More laws to protect the degenerate and people who do wrong. Under the guise of "Fairness" when the reality is, you don't own the property. Pay or you go away. Yeah landlords can be c*nts but at the end of the day it's still their property, you have to accept the negatives of renting not have a government that makes owning a home worse off and an owner not able to evict horrible tenants.
