I'm with you OP. I never understood the hate cardio gets from lifters...I've been running consistently for a decade and it has done more for my health and well-being than anything. Not to mention I actually feel much more athletic and physically capable than when I just lifted.

And my cavemen forefathers would be proud, I go "barefoot"

Through all my self diagnosing/counseling....I lift because my father wasn't really in my life that much as a child. He was also jacked and technically was on an NFL team for like 3 days back in the day. So internally I was doing the "look at me now" thing some people with daddy issues do.

In the end, It really I'll never be satisfied. Hell, I haven't even seen him in years.

I am glad I do though because it set me way apart from my colleagues as I aged. They all look like bloated messes and I don't.

I can only get my cardio in by playing sports. Running or biking are just too boring to me.

After lifting I do 20-30 minutes of stationary biking (5 days a week)
Other 2 days I have dedicated cardio days, mix of stair master, biking, and treadmill.

Why can't I just lift because it's fun? You're probably some loser who goes to the gym for "health reasons" and vanity instead of just because he actually enjoys it. Lol at you.

Overweight, obese, individuals with high strength fitness exhibit metabolic/cardiovascular risk profiles similar to normal-weight, fit individuals rather than overweight unfit individuals.

While I admit, I personally lift because I like the way it makes me look... I also enjoy lifting. I hate LISS cardio because it's boring AF, and do not run (when I fought amateur I was running 13-14 miles 5x daily, lol if you think I'm going to EVER run again if I don't have to). If I'm going to do cardio, it's going to be a fun semi-HIIT type thing. So it'll have to align with an interest... Like boxing (for which I no longer do roadwork because I no longer compete), or skateboarding.

But why can't other people lift because they enjoy it? I mean you've literally got brahs walking around at 30% BF who clearly don't care about what they look like, slinging around ridiculous amounts of weight because that's fun to them.

LVH as a result of training (or athletes heart) is a beneficial adaptation. Pathological LVH as a result of high blood pressure/CV disease is different.

Op while I agree cardio is definitely important, there are positive CV adaptations which occur as a result of resistance training.

I don't cardio when I lift because I think it's best to focus on one thing at a time. I don't want to spin my wheels and to get to max strength, I feel cardio will keep my weight down and work in the opposite direction.

That said, I'll eventually get strong enough, then I'll maintain strength and do cardio.

Also, the irony is that runner types look like twinks yet running takes toughness and willpower. Lifting is extremely easy tbh, you push or pull as hard as you can and that's it.

OP I went running for a little bit yesterday and I wanted to die.

Why you trying to kill me?

Seriously though I'm actually backing off a little from my strength training for a week or two while I try to rehab my hip, tendonitis all down the left side of my body has just been screwing me on my leg days lately. Trying to do a bit more little jogs/sprints in the meanwhile to stay active.

This. GF is into running and biking. Biking is cool if I do it with her but I couldn't do that or running by myself. I find it drudgery.

Now trail running is HNNNG because it's exciting and has variety. I also like jumping rope or hitting the heavy bag.

I'd do sprinting too. I like tennis if I could find someone to play with.

This thread makes no sense. When I do legs, Iโ€™m out of breath like crazy and sweaty as ****, especially from some heavy leg press, or high rep split squats. Lifting still has a form of cardio in it.

I don't do long distance cardio, just short distance sprinting. So anything under 2 miles.

I get the best feels when I am able to get a PR while sprinting.
