This everytime.

I think the brake checker would catch a manslaughter charge if the tailgater made his way to oncoming traffic. Obviously goodnight tailgater and the car that hit him in that case.

They're all idiots, guy in front should have moved over.

I don't care if he wasn't paying attention, or ignorant to etiquette (this is covered in drivers manuals), both are piss poor excuses.

Obviously dude in back shouldn't have been tailgating.

And I'm sure this law was made because ****ing idiots don't pay attention.

The idea of "left lane is for passing" is covered in any "rules of the road" book I've read.

I wish they would start handing out tickets to everyone who doesn't, ignorance and negligence don't fly as excuses for adults.

Lmaooooo instant karma.

Tbh tho if someone's up your ass in the left lane, move over and let them pass. NJ has signs that say left lane is for passing only. Basically if you use the left lane you better be doing like 10 over the posted speed limit at least.

Agree 100%...Slow driving in the fast lane causes many of the highway accidents. Its been proven that the rate of speed of a vehicle does not kill or cause accidents. Its actually high speed vehicles which encounter a vastly slower moving vehicle...and thats why passing lanes exist and moving right is addressed in every drivers rule book I've ever seen. Left lane rules are not about courtesy but rather about safety.

People that dont move over at the first safe opportunity should be ticketed and it should be an offense that has points on your license.

So you read that I agreed both were wrong and somehow two wrongs made a right? Maybe my point was the whole thing could have been avoided. If the guy in back did not wreck it would just be another day in that *******s life of irritating other people and putting everyone in danger.

There is a safety reason not to tail gate. If the guy in front has to hit his brakes for another car, or an animal the guy in back will crash like this or worse.

in this case he antagonized the guy in front and the guy in front did something he should not have. Somehow you think it is normal that the tailgater acts like this and the guy in front is Jesus Christ and let's it go. Sometimes it is a frightened woman that panics and just takes her foot off the gas until passed on the right.

There are often deaths due to the car in front seeing a cop or speed camera and slamming on his brakes. I remember reading a horrific one where the guy in front had an empty trailer the car in back drove up and killed everyone in the front car.

"Safe opportunity" is the argument you would need to prove which would be difficult unless it is an open highway.

He would claim he saw something that made him hit his brakes. Even saying he realized he was speeding might be enough.

you are aware that you are supposed to maintain a certain amount of car lengths behind someone right? specifically for these scenarios. the tailgator has absolutely no case whatsoever and this is entirely his fault, even if he did kill someone.

points on your license for going the speed limit? (usually slightly above the speed limit actually)

i can understand ticketing someone for actually going slow as fuk (like 45 in a 65) but i doubt the cause of the accidents you are referring to is actually the slower vehicle. Its more likely that the “high speed” vehicles are going way over the speed limit and then encounter someone going 70 in a 65 and then dont have time to react since they were going so fast

This lol. Even if the brake checker (whose intentions NONE of you know) was driving bad/incorrect, the tailgater (whose intentions you DO know) was 100% driving incorrectly.

Someone else driving badly is not somehow a free pass for everyone in line of sight of them to ignore the rules of the road, too.

I'm gonna try and explain as simple as possible

we seem to agree about:

- tailgating = dick move
- suddenly braking on a highway for no ****ing reason = dangerous

where we disagree:

- you: brake checking is perfectly normal if someone is tailgating

- me: tailgating is a dick move but you still shouldn't escalate that **** by ****ing brake checking

what's still tbd whether we agree or not:

- you should always gtfo of the left lane if there is an open right lane ffs

Thank you for speaking for me.

We agree on everything, but you do not want to admit none of this would have happened if the tailgater did not start it. The brake check would not have happened.

Keep in mind the fisheye lens on that camera does not give you a sense of how close the cars are. The brake check itself was not bad enough to cause the accident, the guys swerving did. Regardless, both were wrong. I get mad when people here act like someone is in the left lane not playing race car driver deserves a dangerous situation. Complain about trucks not driving the speed limit, not the people having to pass them.

Don't tailgate someone and expect them to smile and get out of the lane. None of us saw what was before the truck and for all we know both drivers had a bad day at work.
