I've never been shooting. Don't know jack chit. Have a bunch of army buddies.

I told them they have to take me shooting and teach me the right way.

They fukkin loved it. It's even better that you know nothing, so they can show you how to shoot the correct way. Especially since my one good friend is a master gunner.

Jut tell them "Hey btw guys, I have no idea how to shoot irl so you're going to have to teach me how to shoot the right way. I'm pumped."

Yup. Just let them know you are excited about it too. You should be because it will be a good skill to learn. Everyone starts off never shooting a gun before. Always remember that.

If they're cool, most are, they'll be excited to show you the ropes and how to shoot the right way .

When it comes to hitting the target, beginners luck is pretty common IME. Squeeze the trigger, don't pull it. You'll start overthinking it on your next couple trips.

As far as procedures go, always treat the gun like it's loaded, point it down range, and have someone experienced acquaint you with the loading, safety, etc. Even if you've shot before, it is completely appropriate to ask someone to familiarize you with their weapon before you handle it.

And chip in for ammo and range fees! Ammo is fukking expensive.

I’ve taken a TON of people shooting for the first time. It’s better than going with someone who is really good because you can see the excitement and joy on their face lol. Just be like “it would be my first time, I’ve wanted to do this my entire life” and they will be like “oh fuk yeah” and that’s it. Just don’t continue to be a ******* about it.

keep your finger on the trigger at all times

never put the safety on because only LGBTQ do that

be sure to keep the muzzle pointed towards at least one Marine at all times

frequently say 'yeah I don't think it has any ammo in it so it's OK'






Seriously though, a few firearm safety rules ....



1. ALWAYS keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
3. Firearms should be unloaded when not actually in use.
4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
5. Always use the correct ammunition for you firearm.
6. If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled handle the firearm with care.
7. Always wear eye and ear protection when shooting.
8. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before shooting.
9. Never use alcohol or drugs while shooting.
10. Store guns safety and not accessible to unauthorized persons or small children.


Jeff Cooper, an influential figure in modern firearms training, formalized and popularized "Four Rules" of safe firearm handling. Prior lists of gun safety rules included as few as three basic safety rules or as many as ten rules including gun safety and sporting etiquette rules.

Jeff Cooper's Four Rules:
1) All guns are always loaded.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4) Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.


The National Rifle Association provides a similar set of rules:
1) ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
2) ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
3) ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.


The United States Marine Corps uses the following four weapons safety rules:
1) Treat every weapon as if it were loaded
2) Never point the weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot
3) Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you're ready to fire
4) Keep the weapon on safe until you intend to fire


There are two kinds of gun owners: those who have had a Negligent Discharge, and those who will have a ND. Try hard not to have one and if you follow the safety rules then maybe you'll get lucky and not accidentally/negligently shoot anyone or anything important.

Put and keep the safety on at all times except when preparing to shoot. After you fire and if you aren't gonna fire again right away, then immediately put the gun on safe and keep it on safe until you're gonna fire again, and the only time your finger should ever be on the trigger is once you've acquired your target, have ensured it's a safe target, and are ready to fire.

If you wanna be respected with firearms, then respect the safety rules.

Already did now and fym? We were just talking about call of duty guns and how it's different from real life (well they were talking, I was just talking along with em) then one of em texted "We should go range tonight" and they all agreed but I didn't text anything (at this point) so guy who texted about range asked me "you down?"
