The issue isn't the difficulty for the most part (although it's definitely not easy and you need plenty of climbing experience to do it). The issue is the stamina portion

note: have transitioned my training to climbing 2-3x a week for the last 2 years

don't do me like that

plenty of pro climbers say climbing el cap isn't some insanely difficult task. The incredible feats are
1) the speed which honnold does it. OP says you can do at your own pace not honnold's
2) it's a deathwish

For a billion dollars, I'm sureany professional climber would attempt it. I think with a billion dollar motivation and prep time I could be doing 5.14a/b(crux of el cap). I've done 5.13b/c's already

I was already planning on climbing in yosemite, possibly el cap but more likely the Royal Arches(obviously not free solo) with my brother in 2021-2022 but then covid hit and i haven't been able to climb as much. ForA BILLION DOLLARS? It's in the realm of possiblity

side note - done 5.13a on rock as well

Yup. But a billion dollar motivation would change that. Simple as that. Offer a billion dollars and thousands of people would have done it already. It's risk vs reward. 99.99% of the population would never put their life on the line for no reward in this situation. A billion dollars though? Where my entire lineage for the rest of time will be set for life and free to pursue whatever they wish? different story

The issue isn't the difficulty for the most part (although it's definitely not easy and you need plenty of climbing experience to do it). The issue is the stamina portion. The main reason I think it's at least possible is because i have an incredibly light frame and could probably get down to 150-155 while maintaining my strength at current 185. 6ft, size 8.5 feet and 28in waist at my lightest

note: have transitioned my training to climbing 2-3x a week for the last 2 years
i can lead 5.11 in my gym too, but i know that gym grades are inflated AF compared to yosemitie

I've done 5.13a at joshua tree (San Diego Brah checkin in). My gym's only 1-2 grades off what i've been doing outdoors so maybe it's just having good route setters. I've only climbed at two gyms and both I feel were pretty close

Because professional climbers don't care to put their life on the line for nothing. Not because they can't do it. Plenty of non-professional climbers have done el cap. I'm pretty sure Honnold lacks the part of his brain that produces fear... It's insane how he doesn't bat an eye at things that should make another man run

Thing is Alex is a serious Autist.

He doesn't not know that it is his life that is on the line every single second up there.

He knows it but completely disregards it in his subconscious mind.

Our nervous system and brain are so deeply routed of deathly falls and dangers that 99% of all human beings born at some stage in their childhood have falling dreams with legit g force feelings.

We wake up instantly, that's the limbo effect you see in Inception (real thing)

Alex does have it but just is able to control everything in his body.

If you ask me he is not just a mellow guy. Bet there is something seriously wrong or wired differently with him.

That's also why no one will try this again.
dude plenty of Russians climb high sh*t on the daily and fear nothing

we could all do that with a bit of practice. have some faith

Maybe a dumb question because you are a pretty consistent climber but have you only climbed in a gym? Outdoors is very different, even if same grade. Also 5.11 to 5.13 is a big difference, enough so that there is a book

People who don’t climb saying “I’d just train” is like saying if I had 3 years to train for Olympic swimming I would just swim everyday then go win gold.

im 36 now i haven't climbed in prob 8 years.

maybe my best plastic maybe v7 v8? but there was 8 year old girls out climbing me in the gym. plastic and multipitch rock are very different.

i would say most anybody can get to 11+ in a gym in a year with consistent practice. then 13 maybe takes 2-3 more years, then 14 never comes.
