A friend of mine accidentally ended up with 3 young kids srs (dear diary)

What would you do in this scenario?

Cliffs:
- Friend agrees to watch sister in law's 3 kids for a few days so she can move
- The mother calls and says she needs a couple more days
- Won't answer phone or texts, goes full ghost mode
-THAT WAS 5 WEEKS AGO. Apparently she moved straight to North Carolina.
- They manage to get a hold of the father, he politely says "no thanks, Jeff"

They can't find any other family willing to take the kids. They are stuck or they have to CPS.

I would honestly try to look after the kids myself, and try to find some help in doing so...

IMO foster care is flipping a coin, regarding if a child is going to get the emotional support that they need. (Worst case scenario is they are outright neglected or beaten, which I would know isn't going to happen with me.)


Of course that wouldn't happen though, because I would be obligated to contact the authorities, and then - to my knowledge - it's all up in the air.

I couldn't live with that, personally.

I was cared for by distant family for a while... I'm damn glad that I didn't go into foster care.

A relative fosters, and her and her partner are very good parents, but I've also heard the stories of kids who are screwed up due to being passed from foster home to foster home.

What am I missing here. They contacted the father which was the friend's brother, right? Seeing as he was watching his sister in law's kids? So the brother screwed the brother?

edit: or if the friend is female then it's a brother/sister situation. same result.

My guess is that they are the original fathers kids, and she married this guys beta providing brother, and then she dipped.

I would take care of the kids because I don't trust the system, and my mindset would be to raise them as best as possible, which a lot of people don't these days. Not gonna leave these kids who know me, and throw them to people they don't know because it's a hassle in my life. Can't call myself a man and do that.

Drag the mother and father through the complete mud on FB+social media for being the scumbags they are. Hopefully a family member will see and talk sense into them or be willing to take care of them, or the mother may just to save her vain reputation. if not then contact CPS.

depends on the age. if they're all above 15 i'd be more inclined to find them a living arrangement and accompidating them.

if they're under 12 or so its kinda up to you to make sure they dont get fostered.

finding mom would probably be number 1 concern, but lets be honest shes probably dead, murderer or OD'ed in a ditch somewehre

There is middle ground between stuck without notifying anyone and cps. Your buddy really should get law enforcement involved. There are legal waters he may need to navigate including support from the state. At the very least she is clearly unfit and that should be addressed, too.
