Saturday Night Bench Pressing with DrewDarden
This is the most I’ve worked up to since I injured both pecs a few months back. Felt good and essentially no pain.
Warmup -
Stretching 10 min
Abs 3x15
Bench Press
Warmups from 45-275
300
315
325
185x10 +60 lb. chain
My buddy worked up to 405. Not shown, but I could post a video if anybody was interested.

The way I use them usually is to do my top sets, and then throw the chain on once I’m done with the main working sets. So for squat I might do 4x2 with my working weight, then take a plate or two off, add the chain, and do some reps.

How crucial is the actual warmup phase of a compound lift? I just skip past it and go straight to the lift

But I didn’t even show you the rest of my warm up in the original post because it is just redundant, but here’s what I really did:
Warmup -
Stretching 10 min
Abs 3x15
Bench Press
45x15
95x10
155x5
205x5
245x3
275x1
300x1
315x1
325x1
185x10 +60 lb. chain

But I use a fair bit of leg drive in my bench, and as you can see my legs are spread wide to cover more of a base. So I have to warm up the groin and low back and hips. That’s what I’m stretching at the beginning of the work out. And when I do those pull down abs, I am stretching out my low back too.

Dips also wreck my elbows and sternum unless I start slowly with singles and work up to reps.
No idea why it hurts my sternum.
Anyway, solid lifts Drew!
