One thing to note about Adele that Americans etc might not know: she comes from an area of South London that is like 90% Afro-Caribbean so she’d have grown up with massive Jamaican influence. Pretty much everyone where she’s from goes Notting Hill Carnival for example and Jamaican culture is more normal to her than British culture.

Imagine Frog from The Wire. She just happened to get into singing ballads instead of rapping because she actually has talent.

I think any one would find it odd, to say the least, if a guest showed up wearing that.

Well yeah as a Caribbean brah who doesn't see people dressing as overdone as Adele, it looks a bit weird. Maybe just the bikini, or just the accessories and it will look fine. Certainly not the hair lmao and seeing a combination of everything with the big feathers looks over the top.

I really don't care as much personally, I'm trying to argue that I can see why some Jamaican/Caribbean people would roll their eyes at her.

That's like me, as an Irishman, being offended at a black chick wearing a Russian flag bikini.
That is a brilliant point.

I hope the people screaming cultural appropriation at her aren't from the UK, because they could know better. That kind of hairstyle was popular amongst 'raver' girls in the early 90s.

Edit: Not the same hair style, but she would possibly get accused of cultural appropriation for this hairstyle...

(Extremely popular rave song from the 90s...)

Yeah, I can see some people rolling their eyes at her 'trying to hard'. She would likely get some comments about that.

Cultural appropriation is a weird angle to take though, I'm guessing (or hoping) it's outside the UK Jamaican community.

Agree.

Yeah, agreed. The cultural appropriation angle is indeed weird. I'd just say she's trying too hard with the look and that's about it. Really not a big deal.

When I became a Christian I was going to this church where like everyone was from the islands or their parents were, they have the best food ever I would always stay after church and have food with them.

Jeez this, you can even see black people behind her in the picture. She isn't doing anything wrong.

One thing I've seen on Twitter though is UK black people being pissed off with US black people, and stating that it's US black people who are going after Adele, and that most UK black people couldn't care about her wearing a Jamaica bikini and having her hair like that.

I've been to Notting hill carnival a few times, and white women have done that kind of thing since I was a kid.

I've seen UK black people sticking up for her, because US black people don't understand the nuances of London race relations.

UK Black Twitter is just LOLing @ her talking patois, not abusing her...
