And having to find and pursue an open-ended problemscares the ever living chit out of him. He's called me on the phone a couple times panicking "I don't know what to do! Become rich and you won't be able to hang with broke sacks of chit.
Become smart and you won't be able to hang out with dumb sacks of chit. Etc.

Gotta find people with a similar mindset.

We‘re brothers in iron, this alone unites us. Funny thing is, writing that post is also the ego inflating itself. I guess when we realize that we‘re all ego regardless is when we can detach from it. But if I‘m honest, I don‘t know.

Truth. You’re exactly right about the ego thing though. A healthy amount of ego is good. I always lol when i see people make an ego out of getting rid of their ego thinking they are enlightened. The ego is a human survival mechanism, also part of self esteem.

I think it depends why you're self improving.

The first thing you should look to do -

1. Self accept. Self acceptance is more important than improvement. You can improve all you want but if you don't accept yourself then it's largely pointless. You'll never be happy until you accept yourself for who you are, you're fully aware of it and at ease with it. No improvement makes up for the lack of self acceptance.

2. Improve, but do it for a reason. E.G. You love art, so work hard to improve your art to enjoy it more and maybe make it into a career if you want. Or you love music, so get better at it, but not simply for the sake of being good, but to make something of it. Educate yourself if needed to do your dream job.

The improvement needs to have a reason behind it other than just improvement itself.

Others have suggested reading good fiction to develop your empathy, and I agree. Even better than meditation.

OP go read Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. It's about a miscer that goes no food, no pillow, no fap, becomes a CEO 10k/day and finally realizes that nothing of that matters and that accepting reality is the final form of happiness (semi srs).

There's literally a chapter called "With the ChildLike People" in which he is frustrated with how he cannot relate to normal people after his journey of self-improvement (dead srs). Go check it out and learn.

You couldn’t be more correct OP. I haven’t read through the thread yet, but it’s honestly a perfect recipe for depression. That’s not to say we shouldn’t all take a deep journey inward and examine why we are what we are. I just can’t quit arriving at the thought about how ignorance truly is bliss. There aren’t many people who can have a deep conversation and it’s sad that within the first 2 mins of said conversation it hits you like a truck that they’ve never had an original thought and are basically droning through life running on the least amount of functioning brain cells they need to do so.

High achievers are always going to be isolated in society by in large. You either dumb yourself down to fit in or find a community that thinks like you do which is hard. Don't change though.

It depends why you're self improving. If you're self improving for the sake of self improvement, and doing it in an aimless fashion then it's not good.

But if you're self improving specifically to get something that you want or to calm your pain/suffering and resolve real problems, then it's worth it.

At the end of the day, here's what matters IMO -

1. Self acceptance
2. Self Awareness/Knowledge
3. Health - Mental and physical
4. Resolving your suffering. Understand why you cause yourself this suffering.
5. Knowing what you want and improving as much as you need to get what you want.

So that's it. If you're improving but no knowing why you're improving, then it's toxic.

You have nothing to prove to anyone. You improve as much as you need to to be happy. That's it.

Resolve your suffering, and get what you want = Peace and Fulfillment.

Find new friends...you need to be around achievers, not middle class shlubs. I still fuk with my friends that aren't on my level, but I choose to run in my own circle when it comes to grinding and achieving. Most people are basic sheep.

Just be aware that when you start winning whether it be career, finances, physique, etc. some of your so called friends will turn on you because of jealousy, or because of petty things like you don't want to drink and get fuked up every weekend with them. Some people evolve while the vast majority rot.

You don't need help.

You need to surround yourself with others who have walked your path or want to walk alongside you on the path.

Once you peer behind the veil you cannot undo it. You can only seek others who have the same capacity and desire.
“Death is as sure for that which is born, as birth is for that which is dead. Therefore grieve not for what is inevitable.”
― Bhagavad Gita
