Just rewatched seasons 1 and 2 of The Walking Dead....

Damn this show used to be so good. It's amazing how far it fell over the years. Even though I've seen these before they were still very engaging and exciting to watch..... I tried picking up where I left off a few years ago ( Right after Glenn got his head blow up) and just had zero interest.....I forget where I stopped really being excited about the show and was watching more so just out of loyalty to the show.....Season 4 or 5 I think.

Also - group would have probably done better with Shane at the lead....

Yeah when Negan hit that grand slam off of Glenns dome was about the same time I just... stopped! It wasn't that scene or anything.. I tried to watch it when the next season started but just didn't give AF.

But to be fair my life has gotten busy AF and dont really care to watch to much TV in general so...

I stopped watching after season 2. They were ok-ish but the graphic novel is 100x better. The show left out a lot of good parts and added a lot of long boring parts.

Just became a people vs. people show and zombies were just props. The characters in the later episodes weren't nearly as interesting either.

The Walking Dead has it's ups and downs, but it does have times when it comes back to glory.

Season 9 was awesome, IMO. And contained the most shocking scene in TV history, along with The Red Wedding of Game Of Thrones. I've watched people scream, walk out the room, go silent in shock... LOL it was awesome. I was "Holy Chit!" over and over again (I've never had that response before).

I've invested until the end, personally. Sometimes entire seasons are IMO garbage, but there are rare episodes that are good.

Realistically (Although it's not a show based on realism beyond the first few seasons) by then, if people survived they would be either very good at stealth, managing or killing zombies.

They likely wouldn't be a threat like they were in the first few years, when people were learning still learning tactics and strategy, and the people who didn't have a group or the skills died.

Show is also largely about human nature, and how people would cope or adapt to living WROL.

That is a very good point. It's just not interesting watching people vs. people and all that bullchit drama

This. It was amazing how they portrayed him as some jealous callous **** head at the beginning but that callousness would’ve saved them a lot of misery later on. It really pissed me off with the direction they took the show after seasons 4 or 5.

I remember watching the first season when it came out, then shortly after it became less about zombie survival and I'm like wtf is chit. They could've gone full Resident Evil but blew it with human drama instead.

That empathy was a two edged sword for rick though. Shane did get a little crazy and I understand why rick had to put him down. It would’ve saved him a lot of hard ache in the end had he been less empathetic and did what needed to be done.

Yeah, but look at what it cost Rick. Shane was willing to do whatever it took to protect the group....anything. Rick's empathy, while admirable, did cost lives. No way around that.

Loved the show at the beginning. Seems like I stopped watching right when everyone else did. I made it for an episode or 2 after Glenn died but just couldn't keep on. Too many filler episodes and the show doesn't seem to have any kind of end point.

Honestly, every group... Regardless of their philosophy... Has deaths. One thing the show is brilliant at showing is that no group remains on top. At some point every group has serious losses, with either the leader or large parts of their group dying.

I think the show tries to point out that they just may have different philosophies, but everyone dies eventually, and no group remains in power forever.

Rick's group does do callous chit though, even in the later seasons.

There is a brilliant drug induced hallucination in the latest Season, showing just how callous some of the group's actions were. It also shows how we only see things from Rick's group's perspective, and don't see what the other groups went through, that lead them to adopt the philosophies and loyalty that they had.

I never got into it, my roommates in college enjoyed watching that show so I would sit around and watch it wish they. It never got my interest and was always the same chit.

I think the problem with these shows is they are based on writings that stood out in the beginning. As in someone put together a good story that was worthy of putting on the screen. Every season after the original one or 2 seasons is just grasping at straws to keep the money machine rolling. I still watch it and it depressing how far it's fallen.

Yep I know and once great TWD was really dead this time and its spin off, under dog "Fear of the Walking Dead" Season 5 took the throne.

With Morgan in its center not Rick, the spin off slowly but steadily (like zombies) has been firing up its engine.

Morgan is the Walking Principle, the avatar of moral character for the both stories.

But again, TWD season 1&2 was GOAT nevertheless, the one and only righteous successor of Romero's Dawn of the Dead.

Imagine if the title were "The Running Dead", would we have taken it seriously?

At some point it started getting a bit dull and redundant, like they didn't know where to go. I think, for me, that was around when they leave the prison. It should have probably ended a while ago, kind of like with Breaking Bad.

early TWD is gold. i think it was more a writing/directing issue (lots of different leads over the years) vs blaming actors or the general storyline. example, loved negan and the actor playing him but his era is some of the wonkiest TV i've ever seen on a major series.

early shows were very grounded and focused. zombies were major threats. i guess this also happens when a show goes on and on for 9 years and has spinoffs.
