It's an average show. Just average at best. Here are some major problems:

- All the main actors suck as actors. All the teenage actors suck. It's clear they're catering more towards a teenage audience.
- lots of cringey dialog
- lots of instances of the "typical TV trope" where a major problem can be rectified if people just sat down and communicated with each other like rational humans but you have people being extremely stubborn and stupid just to drag the conflict on. There's other ways to create real conflicts.
- contrived love triangle. It was a series of coincidences that led Miguel to hate Robby. I hate when stuff like that happens and it's littered throughout the show.
- characters that do a complete 180 out of thin air just to manufacture conflict. The guy who brought a gang to torch Johnny's car. That guy was a goof but he was a typical nerdy guy. There's no way he could go from a nerd to going up to smash someone's car. Give me a break. That guy? Also... Why did he go? He could have just sent his thugs so he wouldn't be implicated. Stupid.
- part 2 of the above: Miguel's transformation from good kid to sith lord happened too quickly and it felt like a completely different character. He was a good kid, far too good to be an edge lord so soon. Robby was an *******, and soon he is Ghandi? Lol gimme a break.
- obvious bad guy comes in the picture, doing shady chit, let's just leave him there to create a ton of conflict.
- end of season 1 was just a mirrored copy of the OG movie. Not original.
- season 2 was meh. Cobra kai had trained warriors for a long time, Daniel gets a bunch of super nerds and they spent considerably less time doing dances and whatnot, yet they were all able to defeat team cobra kai in the end. Not a single one of Daniel's students lost? Hawk losing to the kid who knew almost nothing about fighting was a joke.
- the SJW agenda. Hawk going up to talk to a new chick, suddenly his ex gf, who we had no indication of being bi or gay, walks up and starts making out with the new chick full blast in front his face to cuck him and piss him off even further. That sort of scene has a 0.001% happening IRL but hey let's throw it in there to show lesbians cucking the cis white male.
- Should rename the show to Miyagi Do Karate. Since all the show does is kiss Daniel's (and his student's) asses.

He's the star of the new show as well. It's just named Cobra Kai to draw in viewers.

Daniel won Season 1. His guy "technically" lost the match but was shown to be the calm, Zen-like hero who still fought and almost won while being injured. He lost because his opponent played dirty. Team Daniel had the moral victory in season 1.

- by the end of season 2, Daniel's new team which consisted of a bunch of newbies who barely had any training was able to soundly beat all their cobra kai counterparts. Not a single cobra kai kid won his duel, despite being much more highly trained and formidable. Team Daniel had the victory again here.

The Cobra Kai show acts like there is no such thing as MMA and grappling. In that sense, the fight scenes are unrealistic.

Sure but I'm willing to suspend my belief for this. The original was a karate show and there was a bit of mysticism about it. Like having amazing trainers could make karate super effective. I can understand the TV show wanting to stick to its roots rather than having all the fight scenes look like UFC cage matches lmao like no one wants to see that in a TV show.

There are also quite some legit karate schools out there that do sparring. If you want to be sure to be able to kick ass, then go to a full contact one like Kudo or Kyokushin. BJJ is fun but vastly overrated for the self defense combat skills. You don't want to roll around in the street with some guy on broken glass while is friend is stomping your head into the concrete.
With Grappling martial arts your're better of on throw-oriented styles like Judo and Sambo that also teach submissions and ground control. End the fight as quickly as possible.
Traditional Japanese Jiu Jiutsu is also quite underrated since it has Karate striking and Judo grappling in it.

I thought Season 1 overall was pretty damn good. Still haven't watched Season 2 (well I started like the first episode a while ago - I don't think it was holding m interest though, and I'm definitely not expecting to like it as much as the 1st season), but recently downloaded it. Maybe I'll watch some later today.
