Lotus engines are from toyota so it’ll probably last longer than most people’s chitbox despite being hammered.

Not necessarily. Some people are just on the level where they can easily afford to have a 200k car

So if the person net worth is 40,000,0000 ....you can't say they are worth -200k because they can easily afford it .

This. Also you can’t apply regular cars logic to these cars. Given enough time or certain specs some of these cars can be sold for more than their original price. In fact, the exotic car business is quite lucrative.

I saw a brand new DBS SuperLeggera parked outside of my office this morning. My first thought was that's a beautiful car, my second thought was we'll get there some day.

Hustle harder than you hate OP.

Most people who build wealth dont fall in the trap of needing to prove how wealthy they are with dumb cars, clothes, etc. They look at that money as something that could be invested.

Buying a brand new car is basically an IQ test of sorts. You buy one, you fail

Won't see me in a 200k car unless it's equivalent of me buying a $1500 card today basically little to no effect on my cash flow.

That is an awkward price range. Its kind of like if you're buying a car in that range you shouldn't be spending that much money on a vehicle anyway because that means you're not balling out of control where a vehicel cost is insignficiant so you should be doing something else with that money than soaking it into a car. So in other words should probably be spending 25k or less unless you can just piss away money on a 150-200k car like it's pocket change.

Work trucks prob the exception.

Everyone can buy what they want to buy. To me that is excessive and I personally don't value cars/vehicles enough to care, but w/e it's not my money.

For someone with a low net worth its easy to see how the idea that investing 200K could somehow be life changing or an important sum of money. But for some people, 200K is an irrelevant sum. They can spend 200K and their investment returns/income/wealth replaces it almost immediately.

Think about it this way. Imagine you want something that costs 25 cents. How long would you sit around and debate what kind of investment returns you could get on that 25c if you'd hang onto it?

Awhile back I was in an upscale neighborhood and there was about a 10 million dollar home. And next to it, a clone of the exact same house being built. Talked to the owner and he mentioned his wife loved the floor plan on his home but they had been in it about 10 years and she wanted to redecorate/remodel the entire interior so it would be fresh. But he didn't want to deal with remodeling a home while he lived in it. So he bought the lot next to his and hired a contractor to build a brand new house. I asked him what he was going to do with the old one and he just laughed and said it'd be a guest house when they had family in from out of town.

Dude literally dropped 10 million on a new home so he wouldn't be inconvenienced with remodeling his old one while he lived in it. So wealthy that spending 10 million wasn't even going to affect his finances or make him consider other alternatives. Basically just 'fukk it, I'll own two right next to each other.'

Hmmm so only buy cars that are 25k or less, or car vehicles over 150k?

Interesting concept.

If they have the money to spend on it, then that's their choice. I wouldn't spend that much on a car unless I had basically unlimited amounts of money because being obsessed with cars is a bit ****gy IMO but for someone who happens to be a ****gy car enthusiast it would mean a lot more to drive something expensive.

So next time instead of making a thread about it, just shake your head at them as they blow past you in your salvaged 1998 honda civic & let them do their thing. Who cares

Basically. The concept is this either you have so much money that whether you spend 10k or 200k on a vehicle is inconsequential or you don't have that much money so you should spend as little as possible on a depreciating asset while owning something realiable that fits your lifestyle needs.

In practice, my family bought a mid-20k slightly used minivan to haul my kids around and go on vacation. It's reliable and safe and the cost was no real strain for my family (it's fully paid off). My car is worth like 4-5K now because I've had it 10 years and it's my DD for work. Could we "afford" to buy a couple 50-70k vehicles and not affect our lifestyle? Absolutely but it would be retarded to do that.

I know a guy so rich that he literally abandoned a ferrari at a dealership for months and they had to deliver it to his house because he didn't bother to come and pick it up.

Can't imagine how amazing life would be if you have several billion dollars in the bank. Feels bad man

Why do you guys have such harsh opinions? What if it's a hobby they enjoy? I probably wouldn't buy a Murcielago because of the attention, but I'd definitely have a 70s muscle car, some old German cars, etc

Why do you all keep bringing up depreciating assets and cars?

Most of you are brain dead and don't understand some people are car enthusiasts and don't buy cars to make money. Look at German cars the past 25 years, most are leased and then traded in for the next newest model. You think they care about keeping a car for 15 years? Of course not, otherwise they'd buy a Lexus.

And if you knew about the car world, you'd know a lot of $70k+ cars really don't depreciate like that, especially if the mileage and production numbers are low. Most brands like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Audi R8, Viper, won't lose value like that. You can search 2013 for each of those and they'll all likely be $100k+. In Op's regard, a $200k car will barely lose anything over 5 years. Worse case scenario you just buy used, go 3rd party warranty, and sell it back for what you paid

Having a nice car is fun, and I'll probably never drive a crappy car again. But most of the novelty of a new car wears off within a few weeks of buying it. I'll for sure have nice cars that are fun to drive when I'm older, but it's tough to see me ever spending more than $30k on a car even if I can afford many times that.

That's why you buy a MANual LOL. Or you build a car

It's all about being humble. I don't need my car to be brand spanking new, it's not about the status to me. It's about the performance

Eh I had a new truck that I leased for 3 years because it was stupid cheap for what I was getting. Enjoyed it while I had it, but decided to go even cheaper. Bought an inexpensive 10 year old land yacht that’s still in good shape and roll around in that now.

Couldn’t care less what some broad or people in general think about what I drive. I laugh at those dudes and dudettes in a new Beamer that have a food stamp card and work for some MLM scheme that spend their whole paycheck on it so they can flex on Instagram. Most people are losers that are in debt up to their eyeballs.

The problem is right now ripper dip**** homeless homie off the street will get Approved for a $100k BMW because the finance manager has numbers to meet and dgaf about a repo on anyone because they’ll just resell it again to the next dip****.
