Awhile. But after 5-6 years of legit training, it's going to be brutally slow. Sucks to have all variables checked just to gain 1-2 lbs of muscle in a year lol

Yeah, I've heard people saying that the rate of progress slows dramatically after a couple years of noob gains. To me this is just more proof that fitness has to become a lifestyle if you want to stick to it and really make the most of it.

Funny that.

Most people say that fitness and lifting in general shouldn't be a lifestyle, it should just be another 'hobby' that you do like everything else. Lifestyle is just a lifestyle when it's a main component of your life that you're willing to do for the rest of your life so I have no idea why people think having that lifestyle is a detriment to their own lives unless it's just pure cope from the person spouting all the bullchit

Lol at thinking your bench press and deadlift numbers are an indication of your muscle potential. Twinks out there can deadlift 6 plates and there's a little Asian guy benching 4 plates ffs. I can't because I haven't trained that way

That's how I interpret "lifestyle" as well. I just mean that if you want to see progress and impressive results in something, you can't simply pursue frivolous short term goals. It's just about sticking with it for the long haul.

Interesting. I am nowhere near repping 3 plates on bench...can't even hit that for a single. I don't feel like I'm at my limit yet, especially since I'm continuing to get stronger. Either way, I plan on sticking with it.

Just keep at it, progressive overload is everything, and make sure your diet is in check too

Don't believe this cockhead mate. Keep doing what you're doing, i've legit almost been lifting for two years, i'm like a year and a half at most consecutively right now so I'm no where near my natty potential but i've had to stall a couple of time for personal reasons. Just fukn sucks when it's out of your control of lifting when you lift for 6-8 months consecutively then need to take a break for chit out of your control for like 4--6 months.

Also changing programs constantly was a fault, just need to always stick to the big three compounds and then input any accessory with whatever lifting method you can
if you need someone to chat with, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.

You ever noticed how those powerlifters have huge legs but chitty upper bodies? Because strength is still a key component in gains. A stronger muscle has the potential to be a bigger muscle, fact.

Progressive overload is the best thing a natural can do, but also training in varying rep ranges and having a diet is key. That asian powerlifter doesn't even bulk, just stays at the same weight and focuses on CNS training

I'm a cockhead because i said 3 years is not a short amount of time? Lol. Broly, its never too late to correct your mistakes, but 3 years consistent is a long time. In my first year i made a lot of mistakes but once i got everything into place it took off very well. You're gonna make it

I agree, i'm all about intensity and progressing lifts as much as anyone. But if i focused on getting strong AF on incline DB and hack squats the last 3-4 years, my barbell bench and squat isn't going to be on par with other dudes my size who focus on them

I still hit them both respectively for 3/5 plates for 1 in the last few weeks without training them, but give me a 8-10 weeks of doing them again and it would be for reps. That's my point

Also, big legs crew

Not being able to train sucks for sure. I've been lucky during covid since I'm living at home and have a barbell, plates, a bench and a rack. I've been able to continue with all the compound movements unimpeded. The setbacks definitely take their toll though. It feels like you're running in circles since you don't progress as fast. Hopefully you're able to carry on nicely from here on out. I'm sure gyms by you have opened, right? As for programs, choosing a good one and sticking to it is key. For bench I'm actually using a program that Arn designed for AshWar lol. So far so good! Here it is if you're interested:https://forum.obnoxiousbrutes.com/showt...hp?t=176759161

Good points

I think just doing a variation of different exercises and getting strong as possible at them all is key, its good to change it every so often too, but of course you'll probably have your staple movements. And yeah true, the more frequent you do something the better you're going to be at it. Just do the movements frequently enough so it doesn't feel foreign when you come back to it and you'll be fine.

Yeah gyms been opened for like 2-3 months now so it's been solid, strength's come back up except my bench press strength but what I realized somehow is that my bench press strength increased while I was including heavy weighted dips in my routine so I put them back in again. As long as I can hit 100kg for reps, I'm honestly happy but I'm probably at like back to 90kg for reps right now so it's not all doom. I've realized my aesthetics overtake my strength by a mile like my shoulders, people expect me to be OHP pressing a chit ton of weight or benching a chit ton of weight but truth be told, I can't just yet. I'll check out that program and see how it is.

Good to hear they've been open for that long. I also had good results from dips when i used to do them. I've dabbled with weighted bench dips here at home and they do work, but they feel somewhat uncomfortable on my shoulders so i stick to presses (flat bench, incline and ohp). Yeah, despite what people say, hitting 100kg for solid reps is a very decent strength standard for most guys. You'll get back there soon enough. Definitely take a look at it. Like JK said, if Arn recommends something you can be sure it's legit.

It's honestly safe to say brahs the reason why I'm still in this chithole of a forum is because of the lifters here, the advice, the stories and experiences pretty much sums it all up. I don't come here for laughs anymore because it isn't that type of place. People really dragged it down and it's filled with social rejects and generally mentally ill kids

Glad to be part of this crew tho

This!

I have to admit it has been difficult getting back to the gym after they've been closed.

It's very easy to just not bother but then I fell and look like crap.

I'm finally back on track.
