We live in a 1st world country with great medical technology...ofc the survival rate is going to be high. What is the rate in which people need to be hospitalized or face prolonged sickness?

Brb catch covid and use up your entire sick leave.
Brb catch covid, stay in hospital and rack up debt.

What about the effects of lung damage longer term?

So really is basically the flu where you're not dying unless you're extremely old or a rare rare outlier.
As my dad said since day 1 (he is a doctor): Pneumonia caused by coronaviruses has been killing old people since the beginning of human history. Its just that we used to call it "pneumonia" and this year we're calling it "COVID".

Our county has been open for nearly 6 weeks and positive cases are steadily dropping with no covid hospitalizations at all. Looks like fearcels are gonna have to come up with a new plan to keep people lathered up.

Lol at people who think any virus just needs to wait two weeks and everything is gonna be okie dokie.

The vaccine already exists. Its called the Nov 3rd election. After the election civil unrest and the "pandemic" will just simply fade away.

This is all Kabuki theatre. Meant to gauge the willingness of the general public to be controlled by a central government and told how to behave even as their livelihoods burn.

People will say it's because Trump is nearing re-election and it will bode well for him, not because it's the actual data.

In six months I only know of one person in my entire work/family/social network who has passed from "COVID", and he was an 80yo bedridden man.

[QUOTE=litljay post_id=1617459061]In the same CDC report. These are "estimates" based on some assumptions.

I'm trying to do my due diligence and play devil's advocate here. It bugs me when people cherry pick info from a report and get on their soap box without the rest of the story. Both sides do it.

You missed the point.

The worst case scenario is 14k

Anybody that lives in the real world should realize that demographic makes up almost of all of the working class AND risking 14k lives is acceptable in terms of keeping the economy up.

Herd immunity at 66% makes it <10k

So what are we doing?

Honestly, it’s an unpopular/not pc opinion. But the vast majority of people that die from covid that aren’t old as fuk have “underlying conditions”. Meaning severely overweight, diabetes, heart disease, etc.

These people already cast their lot by living incredibly unhealthy lifestyles and we’re on a collision course with premature death. Let the fatties die and let the rest of us go on with our normal lives. Probably save the healthcare industry plenty of billions along the way.

Explained this to both my parents who are MDs and healthcare execs, and got a bertstare.jpg from them basically saying “you’re not wrong, but you aren’t supposed to say that”.

A couple that I know that is in the fitness industry were tested for work clearance and came back as covid negative and antibody positive, and they can both remember feeling slightly under the weather and a little low energy for a couple of days back in March, so they weren’t asymptomatic, but literally described it as having a “mild cold”.

Not trying to move goal posts. I'm genuinely curious.

Death/ mortality rates are one thing. But what about long term health problems stemming from the virus?

I know there hasn't been enough time to say definitively if there have been long term problems stemming from the virus, but is there anything to justify a concern there for a young healthy person without pre existing conditions?

I am more concerned about that than dying at this point.

The worst case scenario isn't even close to 14K. That's the thing.

Herd immunity happens at a much lower percentage too.

Does everyone here think older people don't exist? Americans over age 50 represent over 110 million people.

Out of 20 people who get the virus 75+ , 1 of them will die.
If you are 50-69, this means you have a 1-200 chance of dying by catching the virus. Hospitalizations+ long term effects I'm sure will be at least 5x higher than death rate for both age groups.'

Who do you think are the main drivers of the economy?

"3. The spending and labor of people 50-plus support 88.6 million jobs."

https://www.aarp.org/politics-societ...;s%20workforce.

Nothing has changed. We are still looking at 2-3 million deaths if we try to reach "herd immunity". The economy will not recover with the people who actually have majority of the country's wealth afraid to travel/go out/spend. The country won't be back to normal if you *******s dont wear your masks.

I'd rather be a panicel for a few more months and have my organs intact for remainder of my life, but that's just me. Also, there is a greater than 0% chance this thing can activate something similar to HIV and Aids and kill you in a few years, or be similar to chicken pox/herpes activating as shingles. Who knows what this thing will do in a decade or two.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-...s/art-20490351

Organ damage caused by COVID-19
Organs that may be affected by COVID-19 include:

Heart. Imaging tests taken months after recovery from COVID-19 have shown lasting damage to the heart muscle, even in people who experienced only mild COVID-19 symptoms. This may increase the risk of heart failure or other heart complications in the future.
Lungs. The type of pneumonia often associated with COVID-19 can cause long-standing damage to the tiny air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs. The resulting scar tissue can lead to long-term breathing problems.
Brain. Even in young people, COVID-19 can cause strokes, seizures and Guillain-Barre syndrome — a condition that causes temporary paralysis. COVID-19 may also increase the risk of developing Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.
Blood clots and blood vessel problems
COVID-19 can make blood cells more likely to clump up and form clots. While large clots can cause heart attacks and strokes, much of the heart damage caused by COVID-19 is believed to stem from very small clots that block tiny blood vessels (capillaries) in the heart muscle.

Other organs affected by blood clots include the lungs, legs, liver and kidneys. COVID-19 can also weaken blood vessels, which contributes to potentially long-lasting problems with the liver and kidneys.

Problems with mood and fatigue
People who have severe symptoms of COVID-19 often have to be treated in a hospital's intensive care unit, with mechanical assistance such as ventilators to breathe. Simply surviving this experience can make a person more likely to later develop post-traumatic stress syndrome, depression and anxiety.

Because it's difficult to predict long-term outcomes from the new COVID-19 virus, scientists are looking at the long-term effects seen in related viruses, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

Many people who have recovered from SARS have gone on to develop chronic fatigue syndrome, a complex disorder characterized by extreme fatigue that worsens with physical or mental activity, but doesn't improve with rest. The same may be true for people who have had COVID-19.

Many long-term COVID-19 effects still unknown
Much is still unknown about how COVID-19 will affect people over time. However, researchers recommend that doctors closely monitor people who have had COVID-19 to see how their organs are functioning after recovery.

It's important to remember that most people who have COVID-19 recover quickly. But the potentially long-lasting problems from COVID-19 make it even more important to reduce the spread of the disease by following precautions such as wearing masks, avoiding crowds and keeping hands clean.
