When I had my kidney stone and it was killing me for a few days trying to pass it . . . I was drinking gallons of Bud Select 55 and Busch Light (because they are fairly low alcohol and I could drink a bunch during the day without getting to plowed during work). Disgust/10 for taste. Made me pizz like a waterfall all day though.

NuggzTheNinja,

I'm going to get the Hesco 3810 plates.

For size...

I measured and it seems like Large SAPI might by just slightly too big in length by like 0.25", but the width is good.

Medium SAPI is good in length, but probably slightly too narrow.

Do you think I should err on the side of maneuverability and go with Medium SAPI? Or should I just go with Large SAPI?

Also, I was thinking of doing a 10x12" shooters cut for the front plate, then a SAPI back plate (either medium or large), what do you think about that?

If you are gonna go over 16" inches again either 6.5 grendel for long range or big bore, .458, .50 or .450, for short range. If you plan on moving to a free state and want to build a quiet boy go .300bllk

6.5 Grendel looks interesting to me. I'm a little worried about building a less than completely mainstream caliber when ammo is this scarce though.

Yes and no.

You can't just buy a lower and register it as a pistol. You've got to use a couple loopholes to register it as a bolt action pistol build. Then you technically have a registered lower you can make a semi-auto pistol out of. Except nobody agrees if that's really a grey area that's okay or if you're violating the law- not even 2a lawyers here agree.

Not worth the headache. I'll wait til I'm in a free state.

Lol yes, but people totally downplay how much work goes into each new caliber. Once you're setup, it's insanely easy and cheap. But each caliber requires dies and a caliber conversion kit for the shell plate case feeder tube. Then you still need to have a decent supply of brass saved from factory ammo you've shot. Then you need to develop a load that you like (usually takes 2-4 range trips to fine tune).

9mm I've loaded like 10k rounds. 45 I've done like 1k rounds. Just getting setup for 5.56 now.

I haven't even bothered setting up to reload .40 yet because I only own two guns in that cal. But I do have approx 5k rounds of saved brass, so I'll be good when I have the energy to make it happen.

You're a pretty big dude right? Couple ways of looking at it - on one hand, there's more of you to hit and more of you to move the plate so you might as well get bigger plates. On the other, your vitals are about the same size as everyone else's.

IMO go with standard 10x12s so they'll fit in more common carriers...SAPIs have their own sizing scheme. Would also suggest going with two plates of the same size unless you're building out a carrier that has the option to get the front and back plate bags separately (I think Spiritus' LV119 can be purchased separately)

I wonder how many people here would be comfortable in a plate carrier, especially long term wear; used to it myself since I wear one at work, but does anyone here really spend much time in one?

IMO go with standard 10x12s so they'll fit in more common carriers...SAPIs have their own sizing scheme. Would also suggest going with two plates of the same size unless you're building out a carrier that has the option to get the front and back plate bags separately (I think Spiritus' LV119 can be purchased separately)
I ordered Agilite K19 which says it fits up to large SAPI. So it should fit a 10x12 shooters cut in front and a large SAPI in back.

The Hesco 6810s only come SAPI sizes and the 10x12 shooter cut.

Notwithstanding the plate carrier being able to fit the plates... is there any issue running a shooter cut front and SAPI back?

I am but I’m extremely skeptical. It’s either going to be canceled last minute, or they will cut trump short every question and lob softballs to Biden or something. It’s not going to be a fair fight that’s for sure.
