Just so were clear. Your evidence of authenticity is the fact that Trump has not outright called the documents fake in his latest tweet? Put yourself in his shoes. He isn't sure exactly what the NYT has. Maybe they are just bluffing on the whole thing. Maybe they have something, but is a complete fabrication, not too farfetched, just look at the Steele Dossier. With the lack of info, it is prudent to hit on the one thing you know is true, that obtaining said information is illegal.

You are basically admitting that this is nothing but a dirty PR battle. If so, at least you're honest. I question your confidence in it's effectiveness though. I think the general public is smarter than you give them credit for.

He knows exactly what they have. If his businesses weren’t racking up losses he could dispel all that easily. Why on earth wouldn’t you?

It goes back to his previous libel trial that i quoted. Gets called a bum with little to no net worth, sues and goes to trial, is asked (quite reasonably) to provide evidence for the assets he claims to own.. and refuses! Sounds legit to me

That is your opinion, but I don't mind that.

I'd argue that career politicians tailor-make their tax returns to look perfect. Because they file them knowing that they will be publicly released. If you've been a big time real estate mogul for 30 years, and suddenly ran for president, you don't have that luxury. Seems more like he doesn't want to give his opponents any ammunition. It's actually made some of them crazy because they are left with nothing but blind speculation. Plus I'm betting there is a large portion of Americans that can appreciate the fact that certain parts of life should still remain private.

Does he? Having access to your own tax records is one thing. Not the same as knowing what records, if any, the NYT has possession of. From a PR standpoint, I don;t see how it hurts trump that his businesses are losing money. Could easily say, it was because he would rather focus on being the President yadda yadda yadda...

Now consider the inverse. Imagine if the NYT said his business were all loaded. The leftwing narrative would be something to the effect of: "Trump continues to make billions off of his office while americans are still suffering unemployment yadda yadda yadda..."

(Again, this is all speculation since the NYT has outright refused to release anything that would substantiate it's claims.)

Its pretty much the standard for people in real estate investing not to pay taxes. Only idiots and poor people believe otherwise. One of the biggest advantages to real estate is how its taxed. There is a reason why a large portion of the wealthy are into real estate.

Can you post something that isn't an opinion piece? Also, clearly it is trying connect that 2007 suit with the Trump-Russia collusion narrative. Just look at the date of the editorial.
I'm sure you can find a source that pre-dates his presidential campaign. Anything after will be fraught with political bias.

Real-estate gains are taxed when the returns are realized. Depreciation almost always out paces Net Income before depreciation to the point where it would be extremely rare to be taxed at all.

An individual with no kids making $40k would have an effective tax rate of 7.85% Paying about $3139.
